The purpose of the presented text is to analyze the forms of manifestation of local identity of migrants from the Podkarpacie region in the United States, using selected localities of the region as an example. The research was based on existing data (mainly censuses, personal documents, newspapers, passenger arrival records from the Ellis Island Archives) and elicited data (in-depth interviews). The exploration covered two neighboring counties: Strzyzow (nineteen villages) and Rzeszow (primarily Rzeszow and Harta). Examples of different ways of demonstrating local identity in the context of migration, presented in this text, clearly confirm how important an aspect it remains for the immigrant, and how crucial role it plays in the process of reconstructing identification in the destination country.
A Broad Overview, Rather Than a Journalistic Investigation. Review of Sylwia Czubkowska's book Chińczycy trzymają nas mocno. Pierwsze śledztwo o tym, jak Chiny kolonizują Europę, w tym Polskę
The article presents the results of research on development strategies of cities with poviat rights. The reason for undertaking the research was the addition of provisions on such development plans to the Act on Self-Government in 2020, and its aim was to determine, in quantitative terms, what number of cities have such plans and whether their adoption is related to the size and number of citizens of the cities. The research was also qualitative in scope and concerned the form and content of development strategies, with the aim of identifying their most important features.
The paper analyzes media coverage of Hong Kong's anti-government protest movement triggered by the proposal of amendments to the extradition law in 2019 as presented in the "People's Daily", the main online English-language state media in the People's Republic of China. This article focuses in particular on the analysis of the narrative related to the international aspects of the protests, i.e., on descriptions of foreign attempts to influence the internal affairs of Hong Kong and China, undermining the principle of "one country, two systems", or attempts to conduct the so-called color revolution. The way the protests are presented in the "People's Daily" is therefore interesting as an example of a narrative related to the protection of China's territorial integrity and defense against foreign interference in China's internal affairs, especially in the context of Beijing's pursuit of the full unification of the country.
