The fall of Constantinople in 1453 gave John of Segovia (ca. 1393-1458) and Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464) the opportunity to resume their old friendship initiated during the Council of Basel. Their common interest in Islam lead them in some of their writings to search solutions to the threat of Turkish military power for the Christian religion. In their effort to achieve a peaceful understanding through dialogue, they show an optimistic confidence in reason. However, this confidence is an obstacle for an adequate understanding of the Islamic religion and for an effective dialogue. ; Con ocasión de la caída Constantinopla en 1453, Juan de Segovia (ca. 1393-1458) y Nicolás de Cusa (1401-1464) reanudan la antigua amistad iniciada durante el Concilio de Basilea. Su interés común por el Islam les lleva a abordar en algunos de sus escritos propuestas de solución a la amenaza que el poderío militar turco representa para la religión cristiana. En sus esfuerzos por lograr un entendimiento pacífico por medio del diálogo, se aprecia una confianza optimista en la razón que constituye sin embargo un obstáculo para una adecuada comprensión de la religión islámica y para un diálogo efectivo.

This special issue aims to contribute to the celebration of the fourth centenary of Francisco Suarez's death (1548-1617). Its intention is to bring up to date this Spanish Jesuit's thought in all of its multidisciplinary variety, ranging from metaphysics, philosophical psychology, political philosophy, law and economics, to the theory of action. In carrying out this task, we have tried to address the main ideas of this complex and contorversial author, who bridges medieval and modern ways of thinking, from the contemporary perspectives of the above mentioned disciplines. ; El presente volumen monográfico quiere aportar a la celebracion del cuarto centenario del fallecimiento de Francisco Suárez (1548-1617), una reactualización del pensamiento de este jesuita español en su carácter multidisciplinar: desde la metafísica, la psicología filosófica, la filosofía política, el derecho y la economía a la teoría de la acción. Con ello se busca abordar desde el panorama contemporáneo de estas disciplinas las tesis de este autor complejo y controvertido, puente y gozne entre el pensamiento medieval y el moderno.
