Tourism Innovation in the Digital Era explores topics as diverse as big data analytics in tourism marketing to the impact of AI to the use of CSR in competitiveness amongst hotel groups, providing multidisciplinary approaches on the organizational impacts of digitalization and artificial intelligence in tourism and hospitality.

The links between high profile sports events and tourism are increasingly apparent, yet comparatively little attention has been paid to lower profile sports-related travel. Developing this type of travel provides clear economic and social impacts - employment opportunities, investment, development, the foundation of new infrastructure and the improvement and reinforcement of local communities. Sport and Tourism offers a comprehensive analysis of how and why interorganizational cooperation between sports and tourism occurs to develop tourist destinations. Considering new strategies and crisis management programs, the chapter authors cover a range of sports from football and cycling to winter sports and hiking in countries around the world, such as China, Croatia, Greece, India, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, UK and Slovakia. In confronting growing concerns around environmental, social and economic issues facing sports and tourism, this collection presents different perspectives to develop new plans for future needs and problems. Sport and Tourism provides an opportunity to stimulate academic research on the relationship between sport and tourism with multidisciplinary approaches. Furthermore, this work encourages discussion among international scholars on how to stimulate cooperation strategies on sport and tourism to develop tourist destinations.

The aim of the paper is to study the factors influencing the development of networked collaboration between small and medium-sized businesses in the Italian tourist industry. These businesses are obliged to choose networking when faced with difficulties of growth and the need to improve their offer for increasingly discerning customers. The paper aims to add to the recent studies on the management and governance of small and medium-sized tourism businesses, and to pinpoint new development processes to deal with the notable difficulties that the sector is subjected to. A survey was carried out by administering a questionnaire to a sample of Italian travel agencies and tour operators, specialising in incoming and outgoing activities. The sample consisted of 2,200 enterprises (or 70% of the total operating in Italy) and was addressed only to small or medium-sized businesses (with less than 250 employees and a turnover less than 40 million euros a year). The narrowness of the sample analysed constitutes a limit to the work, and eventual future studies should try to analyse all tourism companies with a view to discovering new business opportunities, relieve critical situations and above all, call attention to appropriate issues of governance.

Purpose
This paper aims to map the knowledge management research in small businesses and suggest future actions to strengthen managerial practices. Knowledge management practices foster the growth of small businesses. They allow innovation to grow within the institutions, enhance customer satisfaction and reduce employee absenteeism and attrition.


Design/methodology/approach
The study adopts a bibliometric protocol to retrieve the 686 articles published in the Web of Science (WoS) database. The WoS database is selected to ensure only quality and peer-reviewed publications are analysed in the study. It then identifies the top contributions, and existing thematic areas, and suggests future research and policy actions for boosting economic growth through small business. The study uses VOSviewer, Science of Science (Sci2) and Gephi to conduct the bibliometric and network analysis.


Findings
The results from keyword co-occurrence and co-citation analysis helps in identifying thematic areas. The findings highlight that there exist five major themes in knowledge management research for small businesses. The dynamic co-citation analysis helps in tracing the evolution of these clusters and suggests future themes, research directions and methodological advances in the theme. PageRank analysis helps in identifying the top articles published on high-impact journals in the theme.


Research limitations/implications
The study helps researchers by summarising existing literature and identifying key thematic areas. It also assists policymakers by recommending actions to improve knowledge management practises in small businesses to gain a competitive advantage. The paper suffers from the limitations of bibliometric analysis. The sample is collected from a single data source and a single type (journal articles) and the statistical accuracy of the analysis depends on the quality of the sample.


Originality/value
The study's originality lies in using fit-for-purpose software in clustering the research and suggesting actions. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is one of its kind in applying bibliometrics in studying and covering several aspects of knowledge management in small businesses with a combination of software.

Gender and Tourism: Challenges and Entrepreneurial Opportunities adopts a multi-disciplinary approach, building on a historically informed, future-focused research agenda that accounts for the needs and concerns of contemporary policy makers and practitioners in the tourism field. The collection is structured in two parts, with the first part collecting chapters that analyze the key factors of female entrepreneurship in the tourism sector, the participation of women at leading, decision making positions worldwide, the potential of female business development in both global and local terms and the main inhibitors for their under representation in top managerial key positions. The second part includes chapters that investigate, through significant case studies, which is the most appropriate governance and management model to be implemented in the context of gender and tourism. Gender and Tourism is the result of reflections on researches of different nationalities and provides a comprehensive collection of new insights for traditional paradigms, approaches and methods, as well as exploring more recent developments in research methodology in the context of gender and tourism studies.

PurposeThe aim of this paper is to improve the understanding of strategies for how established companies can respond to disruptive innovation, handle increasing complexity, facilitate entrepreneurial culture and processes and successfully manage organizational ambidexterity.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative multiple-case study was conducted to explore successful practices of innovation ambidexterity (IA) and their organizational design, entrepreneurial culture and mindset, processes and leadership. Two internationally established firms that have launched and established IA programs provided deep insight, revealing their strategy and learning on the path toward effective IA.FindingsThe findings show that accepting and managing the inherent complexity increases within an ambidextrous organization strategy is a decisive factor in achieving effective IA. As a result, segmenting small organizational units and granting them extensive autonomy is proposed for managing the complexity of an organization while increasing its effectiveness. Furthermore, it is shown that this helps foster entrepreneurial culture, mindsets and processes as additional mediators for achieving effective IA. Coaching, empowerment and trust were identified as key factors of ambidextrous leadership values that encourage entrepreneurial behavior and decision-making.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors knowledge the first study connecting the research fields of complexity management, organizational ambidexterity theory and entrepreneurial culture while applying the fundamentals of systems theory to propose a practical management framework for successfully responding to disruptive innovation.
