Objective: To understand and identify the representations of cancer patients on antineoplastic chemotherapy treatment and nursing care. Methods: Descriptive, qualitative research, analyzed regarding the phenomena of the Theory of Social Representations and content analysis technique proposed by Bardin, held from June 24 to July 31, 2015, with 22 patients diagnosed with cancer and under chemotherapy treatment. Results: After analysis of the collected material were consolidated four thematic units, named: "Chemotherapy: the chance of cure", "Nursing care in chemotherapy", "The daily life of interpersonal relationships during chemotherapy treatment" and "The difficulties during the chemotherapy". Conclusion: Through research, you can see the importance of health education for the understanding of patients and their families about cancer and its treatment.

Objective: Identify the social representations of caregivers of cancer for patients with no chance of cure and analyze their implications for care. Method: This is a qualitative research based on the Theory of Representations. Results: In thematic content analysis fell into two categories: The discovery of the other necessary care and generating two subunits: Limitations and Dependencies of the patient and participation in care; The relationship care, caregiver and patient that generated two subunits: The suffering of caregivers and support, the comfort and hope the caregiver. Conclusion: Is necessary that the nurse promotes strategies that facilitate the involvement of caregivers and the family in caring.

Objective: The study aimed to identify the social representations of men about prostate cancer and their masculinity
against the disease, and analyze its implications for health. Method: This is an exploratory qualitative approach of case
study which takes as input a conceptual Theory of Representations, performed with 10 subjects diagnosed with
prostate cancer. Results: Through content analysis yielded the following thematic units: (Re) knowing the prostate;
this problem called prostate and prostate cancer as a symbol of man's masculinity. Conclusion: The study provided
evidence that prostate cancer is a disease that is directly related to how they perceive their consequences in the social
context, which are responsible for providing moments of pain, sorrow, and to exchange experiences, especially health
risks

Identifying which social representations of family members of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) about the ICU and the hospitalization process and analyzing the implications of these for their everyday life. Method: this was a qualitative study based on the Theory of Social Representations. Results: the Statements of the relatives were synthesized in four themes: the perception of family members with respect to ICU; the family of the suffering of daily life; the "technological shock"; Religiosity: Hope of Salvation. Conclusion: through all the above was possible to observe the importance of looking for ways to understand and respond more humanized and warmly family lying in a hospital setting.

Objective: understanding the social representation of women about cervical cancer and its implications for
care of themselves. Method: this is a qualitative study of a descriptive approach that used as a theoretical
role the social representations, taking the interview as a technique for data collection of information. We
worked with 35 outpatient women of a referral public hospital in oncology. Results: within the dialogs it
was observed that the concept of cervical cancer was closely related to the feeling factor, leading fear and
sadness. The evidences also showed that women focused on sexuality and treatment as a life change along
the disease. Conclusion: cancer of the cervix produces a great change of life in women who passed through
the problem, not just by the physical factors, but quite by the subjective side in fighting the disease.

Objective: To identify and analyze the social representations of patients after radical penectomy due to penile cancer and its implications for health. Method: This is a qualitative study, which uses the descriptive method in the form of case study and theoretical approach of social representations. The study included 30 patients, who were followed between the months of May to October 2011. The analysis of the findings occurred through the technique of discourse analysis. Results: the main findings of the study were the discussion about the amputation, religiosity and family facing this cancer. Conclusion: It came evidenced that penile cancer is a dreaded disease among men, holding a biological and symbolical representation, which controls the individual and the environment where he lives.
