The article presents the specifics of the contextual use of the relative adjective Ural in qualitative meaning on the material of federal and regional newspapers published in the Sverdlovsk region. The axiological potential of the ottoponymic adjective is determined by the essential attributes of space as the fundamental reality of human existence. The analyzed material has shown that the augment of qualitatively-evaluative connotations of the relative adjective occurs due to the guidance of the value meanings by the context represented as the set of the typical compatibility of the word, due to the reflexive discussion of everything connected with the Ural region. At the same time, the axial "small homeland" is the nuclear component of the axiosphere "Ural", verbally expressed by our lexemes our, native, nearest. In addition, the expression of qualitative characteristics of the adjective Ural is associated with a mental predetermined evaluation of abstract concepts. Set expressions (for example, the Ural character) functioning in the speech, the explication of the graduation of the relative adjective in the speech help to actualize the value conceptions about the Urals and their inhabitants formed in the consciousness of the native speaker.
Referring to mass media materials for January, 2016 and a variety of Internet sources, the authors consider some statements and texts describing and estimating a cultural event – an exhibition organized by the Tretyakov Art Gallery and devoted to the 150th birthday anniversary of artist Valentin Serov (October, 2015 – January, 2016). The public's tempestuous reaction caused by hours-long queuing in the frost in January was reflected in the mirror of language. As a result, the queue for Serov started being used as a set expression in speech. The purpose of the paper is to put forward an interpretation of the mental puzzle of the queue to see Serov's works pointing out the manifestations of the phenomenon of Russianness, with reference to a linguo-cultural analysis of the speech and text corpus, reflecting the shock situation in question. The article is structured according to the analytical answers to questions, representing public opinion: Why do people queue? Why do people queue to see Serov? What did the queue for Serov demonstrate? The article systematizes comments of art critics, cultural studies scholars, philologists, journalists, and also people who queued to see the exhibition. "Serov passion" enabled the authors to reveal such sides of Russianness as the stability of the rational and the irrational dichotomy, the perception of the irrational as a natural thing, a tendency to joint thinking, sympathy, empathy, a combination of patience and quick temperedness, the domination of the spiritual over the material, the life-asserting need for the beautiful, as well as to catch the energy of the common emotional and aesthetic choice, and feel the genuine nature of the common drive. The analysis demonstrates that all these lead to the emergence of a conceptual metaphor "the queue for Serov is Russia", based on stereotypes of national exceptionality, and uniqueness. In accordance with the laws of carnivalization, the bias of this conceptualization is burlesqued. Furthermore, the authors reveal another facet of the phenomenon of Russianness, i. e. selfirony that makes not only the latest case-law situation its object, but also the sore spots of modern Russian space – political, economic, legal, and social.
The authors consider the socially relevant problem of axiological construction during a conflict of values. Referring to the lexical combinatory power of the word ценности (values) the authors reveal Russian people's need to protect the system of basic value categories providing national unity. Considering the principle of historicism and relying on the ideas of Russian philosophy, the article puts forward a number of linguo-axiological principles underlying the formation of value categories including the key words of the Russian mentality. The authors analyze the Upbringing Development Strategies in the Russian Federation until 2025 (as of May 29, 2015) passed by the Government of the Russian Federation and formulating the tasks of spiritual and moral upbringing. Owing to the fact that the spiritual and moral values are the nucleus of the multilayered national cognitive space, it is substantiated that it is necessary to create a consistent typology of value categories and its use in schoolchildren's education and upbringing processes.
Referring to journalistic materials of the Russian, Mongolian, and Finnish press, the authors consider the features of the metaphorical use of language means that verbalise the elements of the culinary and gastronomic sphere in political discourse. The figurative use of the Rus. кухня, Mong. гал тогоо, Fin. keittiö "kitchen" fixed in explanatory dictionaries provides a basis for proving the universal character of the household artifact metaphor in different languages. The popularity of the kitchen metaphor as a means of conceptualising political life is due to the fact that kitchen and politics are spheres of life where the process of cooking, on the one hand, and conducting independent policies and decision-making on important issues, on the other, are complex phenomena in their nature and require a certain skill and professionalism. As a result of actions hidden from the attention of the uninitiated, a kind of "dish" is prepared, and it is qualitatively different from the original set of ingredients. The intensity of political life is transmitted by "temperature" lexemes of different parts of speech: "cook", "stew", "boil", "seethe", "foam", "scald"; nouns "fire", "boiling water", "steam"; adjectives and participles: "hot", "red-hot", "boiling". Porridge and soup are universal dishes of all the political cuisines and cooking them is connected with the indiscriminate mixing of ingredients in a boiling state and characterising the complexity and uncontrollability of active political life and political seasonings. The model analysed has a powerful axiological potential. Kitchen as a component of the world of everyday life often shows the inside of life, unattractive to prying eyes, forming a negative characteristic of political activities associated with unseemly and unscrupulous deeds of the people involved in the political process. The culinary and gastronomic metaphor involves the metaphor of dirt in its discourse and reinforces the negative characteristic of the political activity. ; Peer reviewed

The research outlines the findings of collaborative insights into the core values anchored in the linguistic consciousness of people living in the Urals and represented across diverse areas of speech in the cities of the Middle Urals. The purpose of the study is to understand the linguoaxiologic reality of the current times, interpret representatives of value concepts with a consolidating function.
To reach the target, the authors have practiced sociolinguistic monitoring helping to reveal value preferences among the student youth. Using the complementation principle, they have conducted a psycholinguistic experiment aimed at identifying nuclear and peripheral conceptual meanings anchored in the linguistic consciousness. The findings helped to conclude: the core of basic values is a system of interrelated conceptual meanings organized as a cognitive matrix.
Based on a meaningful interpretation of the materials used in the experiment, the authors managed to identify the increase in the divergent self-mentality of a subject with free consciousness focused on self-fulfillment and pursuing personal goals. However, at the emotional level, young people stay committed to the socio-centric traditions of the Russian culture: family interests (we-group) prevail over individual interests.
The linguoaxiologic analysis of municipal newspaper texts and methods of metalanguage study helped to describe the value aspects of provincial thinking: native speakers feel both as Uralians and Russians with preserved national, primarily, family traditions. The core value of the urban provincial community is little homeland — a key category of the Ural mentality. The mentally relevant mindsets are those related to common good.
Using conversation scripts reflecting the distinctive features of speech communication in the Urals, the authors divide the value-thematic and communicative-value text fragments, develop an algorithm for linguoaxiological commenting on oral dialogue.

Covid-19 is highly relevant in 2020; among other things, it is attracting new global socio-communicative and linguistic research. Scholars are addressing the linguistic response to the social and psychological situation in different countries in the era of coronavirus. Thus, the Editorial Board has created a forum for specialists to communicate (in writing), one which makes it possible to provide information about their sources on Covid-19 and illustrate theoretical materials. The participants chose to analyse different aspects of language during the pandemic; medical terminology and its relevant vocabulary were the same for all countries. The conversation goes beyond the scope of linguistics, as it is important for the researchers to characterise measures taken by governments to combat Covid-19 and the public's reaction to them as reflected through language. Additionally, the authors focus on spontaneous linguistic responses to the pandemic in the form of language games, metaphors, and references to historical memory of combatting disasters. The pandemic has also caused long-standing forms of speech communication to change. Researchers from different European countries have taken part: Arto Mustajoki (University of Helsinki, Finland; National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia), Nadezjda Zorikhina Nilsson (Stockholm University, Sweden), Rafael Guzmán Tirado (University of Granada, Spain), Anna Tous-Rovirosa and Daria Dergacheva (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain). The conversation was moderated by Irina Vepreva and Tatiana Itskovich (Ural Federal University Yekaterinburg, Russia). ; Artikelns språk är ryska och engelska.
