It presents mechanisms for shaping civil positions and fostering patriotic education among students. Using the example of youth policy at Voronezh State Technical University, the principles of imple-menting key provisions of spiritual development within the framework of humanitarization of education and enhancing the moral and ethical potential of student communities are demonstrated. The tasks of professional development of engineers as drivers of development in high-tech industries and technological sovereignty of the country are outlined. The data of an empirical study conducted at the specified university and designed to determine the essence of the concept of "patriotism" for modern youth are presented. The article is about slavery in the early medieval England, a problem poorly discussed by Russian scholars. Slave's legal status and capacity are under consideration. The author draws a conclusion that slaves in the Anglo-Saxon society possessed a certain degree of the legal capacity though diminished by comparison to that of the freemen. Slaves bore responsibility for their misdeeds, could have a family and own a property. These were prerequisites for disappearance of slavery and merging of the slaves and the lowest strata of the freemen into villainage.

In the article, the authors analyze the concept of "information value" through the understanding of the terms "value" and "information" as philosophical categories. They examine the influence of social consciousness, adaptive processes, characteristics of information as a final product, context, and certain social and behavioral factors on the assessment, perception, and utilization of information by individuals and society. Some ways of determining the value of information are analyzed, and a socio-philosophical characterization and critique of the concept of quantifying information value (VOI) is given. Factors influencing the ability to respond to information are identified, and the sequence of decision-making according to Gary Klein is considered. The questions that arise when determining the value of information are raised, the importance of resolving them and a deeper understanding of the degree of influence of the human factor on data collection, information synthesis and knowledge development is argued. A concept for determining the value information is presented.
