In this era of mass tourism, and to create social and financial benefits, it is useful to clarify the positive and negative aspects of animal tourism resources. Following the principles of environmental protection, public relations methods can make the most of existing animal tourism resources from the perspectives of tourists, aid government bodies to strengthen scientific methods of animal production, help promote scientific knowledge of the ecological environment, and stimulate animal protection education. However, with information on visitors' positive and negative comments about captive wildlife attractions, operators may identify other actions they need to take. Using netnography to extract meaning from online conversations, this study used qualitative methods to collect data from the online comments on two Chinese travel applications (apps) and conduct a thematic analysis to identify the main themes in the data. This study investigates the development of the wildlife tourism resources at Beijing Wildlife Park (BWP), and aims to determine the means of sustainable development of the BWP.

A fundamental question that has not been fully addressed is how censorship is perceived by people who experience it. A person may exhibit pro- or anti-censorship attitudes, but it is possible that (s)he may not even be aware of its existence. In this study, we report results of a large-scale survey on Chinese Internet users' experiences with Internet censorship. The results show that users' demographic backgrounds, Internet usage experience, and personality influence their attitudes toward censorship. Those who score high on authoritarian personality measures tend to support censorship. Attitudes toward censorship change so that over time it is viewed as more normal, which suggests a "normalization" process. We discuss how these findings can generalize beyond the Chinese context to other societies in which Internet censorship can exist.

In produzierenden Unternehmen existiert eine Vielzahl von Einsatzoptionen für Energiespeicher. Jedoch scheitert eine Energiespeicherintegration oftmals an deren Wirtschaftlichkeit. Durch eine Umfrage zum Thema Energiespeicherintegration in produzierenden Unternehmen im Rahmen einer Studie konnten die Herausforderungen und Chancen einer Energiespeicherintegration identifiziert werden. Dieser Beitrag stellt die Ergebnisse vor.

Abstract. There is little historic data about the vulnerability of damaged elements due to debris flow events in China. Therefore, it is difficult to quantitatively estimate the vulnerable elements suffered by debris flows. This paper is devoted to the research of the vulnerability of brick and concrete walls impacted by debris flows. An experimental boulder (an iron sphere) was applied to be the substitute of debris flow since it can produce similar shape impulse load on elements as debris flow. Several walls made of brick and concrete were constructed in prototype dimensions to physically simulate the damaged structures in debris flows. The maximum impact force was measured, and the damage conditions of the elements (including cracks and displacements) were collected, described and compared. The failure criterion of brick and concrete wall was proposed with reference to the structure characteristics as well as the damage pattern caused by debris flows. The quantitative estimation of the vulnerability of brick and concrete wall was finally established based on fuzzy mathematics and the proposed failure criterion. Momentum, maximum impact force and maximum impact bending moment were compared to be the best candidate for disaster intensity index. The results show that the maximum impact bending moment seems to be most suitable for the disaster intensity index in establishing vulnerability curve and formula.

Political ties and managerial cognitive biases, specifically overconfidence, have been identified as affecting firm-level R&D processes and outcomes. Here we further conceptually and empirically explore how these two factors may influence R&D intensity in an emerging market context. Our empirical results, based on panel data from 1293 Chinese publicly listed firms (between 2010 and 2014) show, contrary to some previous research, that stronger formal political ties somewhat reduce firm-level R&D intensity. Greater overconfidence in managers, by contrast, increases R&D intensity. Interestingly, moreover, overconfidence positively moderates the relationship between political ties and R&D intensity to the extent that the weak negative relationship becomes positive in the presence of overconfidence. Our results highlight the role of managerial mindset as an important determinant of R&D intensity in the emerging market context.
