The article investigates the social relations between Indonesian immigrants and the multicultural Muslim community in London by examining the applicability of the Ummah concept, in the context of the diaspora. The Muslim diaspora, though their similarity of faith, has always contained internal diversity and fragmentation. Likewise, different religious trajectories of Muslim immigrants as illustrated by Indonesians in London have been identified to shape different understandings of unity and diversity of Muslims, which forge different forms of social relation with fellow Muslim immigrants in the city. The traditionalist London Indonesians have trivialized the unity of Muslim in diaspora through daily encounters yet maintained inevitable different ethnic affinities and religious-sectarian affiliations as a wall dividing them altogether. The revivalist Indonesians have construed the diasporic unity of Muslims as an idealized-normative concept that should be realized socially, culturally and politically by suppressing internal ethnic, national and religious-sectarian fragmentations. While the secularist Indonesians have shown an apathetic position to the implausibility of the diasporic unity of Muslims due to its irreconcilable perceived internal diversities and divisions.Artikel ini menelaah pola relasi sosial antara imigran Indonesia dengan masyarakat Muslim multikultural di London dengan menguji kesesuaian konsep kesatuan Ummat Islam dalam konteks diaspora. Meskipun memiliki persamaan iman, diaspora Muslim selalu terbangun dalam perbedaan internal dan perpecahan. Demikian pula dengan arah perkembangan religiusitas imigran Muslim yang beraneka-ragam termasuk yang berasal dari Indonesia yang pada akhirnya membentuk beberapa pola relasi sosial dengan komunitas Muslim lainnya di kota ini. Kelompok Muslim Indonesia tradisional menganggap biasa konsep kesatuan Ummat Islam dalam perjumpaan sehari-hari dengan komunitas Muslim lainnya sehingga tetap menjaga jarak berdasarkan perbedaan etnis dan afiliasi tradisi keagamaannya. Kelompok Muslim Indonesia revivalist memahami kesatuan Ummat sebagai konsep ideal yang perlu direalisasikan dalam kehidupan sosial, budaya dan politik sekaligus mengubur potensi perpecahan karena perbedaan etnis dan tradisi keagamaan. Sebaliknya, kelompok imigran Indonesia sekuler menunjukkan sikap apatis terhadap kesatuan Ummat karena adanya perbedaan dan perpecahan internal Ummat Islam yang tidak mungkin didamaikan.

The establishment of the DPD (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat or Regional Representative Council) in Indonesia in 2004 has provided individuals and civil society organizations such as Muhammadiyah with the opportunity to participate in the legislative process without formally entering politics. As exemplified by three cases in Yogyakarta, South Sulawesi and West Sumatra, three local Muhammadiyah branches have participated in the last three DPD elections (2004, 2009, and 2014), with each winning a seat each in the 2014 election. This reveals the inherently political nature of civil-cum-Islamic social-religious organizations such as Muhammadiyah, which will manifest itself whenever opportunities become available. Yet, due to different organizational strengths and the social-cultural capital of each local branch office, diverse approaches and political strategies were used to mobilize members and sympathizers, thereby encouraging them to vote.

This research is to find out: social studies teacher teaching skills, social studies learning activities, and the influence of social studies teacher teaching skills on student learning activities at MTs (junior high school) Aisyiyah North Sumatra Bandar Khalifah. This study used the quantitative descriptive method. The population of this study was all MTs (junior high school) Aisyiyah Sumut Bandar Khalifah students, totaling 297 students. The sample for this study consisted of 75 grade VII students. The data collection tool is a questionnaire consisting of 32 statements. Where first tested the validity and reliability of research questionnaires on MTsN (junior high school) students in class VII–1, including outside the sample, the test instrument was used to determine the results of social studies teachers' teaching skills on learning activities using data analysis. The results of the t test stated that there was a significant influence of social studies teachers' teaching skills on learning activities at MTs Aisyiyah North Sumatra Bandar Khalifah. with a Tcount result of 3,388 > Ttable 1,997, then Ho was rejected. The result of a simple linear regression test with a constant value (Y) is 2.169. This means that if all variable X values are 0, then the learning activity value is 2.169. 3) The R square value is 0.749. Then the value of the coefficient of determination obtained is 74.9%. This states that variable Y has a contributing influence of 74.9% on variable X (learning activities). In addition, the value of R is a symbol of the correlation coefficient obtained by 86.5%.

Background: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is increasing globally and remains debated. Objective: This study examines the association of socioeconomic status with the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. Data obtained from the 2014 Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS), a nationally representative population survey data, which polled 30,497 individuals age 16 years and over in 13 provinces in Indonesia. Logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the prevalence of diabetes mellitus with socioeconomic status. Results: Education level, employment status, age, and hypertension are related to the prevalence of diabetes mellitus. According to educational level, individuals with lower education level were more likely to have diabetes mellitus than those who had a higher level of education (OR=1.42; 95% CI: 1.21-1.67), higher risk was also found in those who were unemployed (OR=1.55; 95% CI: 1.33-1.82). Besides, age and hypertension were independent factors for a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus, age >55 (OR=4.71; 95% CI: 4.06-5.46), hypertension (OR=5.86; 95% CI: 5.00-6.87). Diabetes mellitus also show significantly higher among individuals living in urban areas compared to individuals living in rural areas (OR=2.13; 95% CI: 1.78-2.55). Conclusions: Socioeconomic status has a significant association with the prevalence of diabetes mellitus among people above 15 years old in Indonesia. The government needs to design a preventive program to control this disease by considering the risk factors that may lead to the development of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia.

Since human beings entering the modern era, risks have become parts of the very fabric of the society, either social, cultural, economy or political; they hit them entirely and continuously. The risks of the pandemic Covid-19 – hit the world in 2020 – have brought in a real jeopardy; new crises, new problems, new challenges that have radically changed ways of living of human beings in all continents and in all aspects of their daily activities. The issue of sustainability as the core principle to govern the today society – social, cultural, political and education – has been more prominent yet faced more difficult and unprecedented challenges. The academic conference addresses the issue of sustainability of social, education and political values, traditions and activities pursued by human beings in their daily life as now have been entirely affected by the pandemic. On the one hand, there is an inherent risk of the modern living, the vulnerability of human being and the power of nature that must be not only understood and learnt but also institutionalized and structured in various arena of social life of the people. On the other hand, there has been a tremendous change on the ways the social features of human living – from simple informal meeting/gathering of neighborhoods to daily shopping, formal working at the office/home, school teachings, professional football matches, elections and government/state ceremonies – being re-defined, reconstructed and carried out with online/virtual media. This new social fabric – thank to the Internet! – will eventually re-shape all established social institutions – states/government bodies, private companies, churches/religious organizations, schools/universities and so forth – on their approaches and serve the populace as well as their adaptation and change to survive and sustain.
