Heute wird die europäisch-westliche Philosophie endlich auf die Pluralität der Kulturen und auf deren Philosophien aufmerksam. Reflexartig werden diese Philosophien jedoch als bloße Varianten europäisch-westlichen Denkens aufgefasst. Das aber greift zu kurz. Die eigentliche Herausforderung liegt darin, die anderen Erfahrungen, die den außer-europäischen Philosophien zugrunde liegen, ernst zu nehmen und von neuem zu erkennen, dass auch die europäisch-westliche Philosophie ursprünglich auf einer Erfahrung aufruht. In der Begegnung mit anderen Philosophien liegt heute die Chance, diese Erfahrung zu erneuern. Interkulturelle Philosophie ist deshalb mehr als nur eine neue Disziplin der Philosophie. Es geht ihr um eine Selbstbestimmung der Philosophie angesichts der interkulturellen Situation, in der wir heute leben. (Buchumschlag)
