A report is given on a survey designed to test the view of Charles Adrian & others that city managers are likely to be 'pro-business' & pol'ly conservative. 26 incumbent managers in the state of Mo answered a questionaire & were intensively interviewed. They were M, white, predominantly Anglo-Saxon, & overwhelmingly Protestant, with a few Catholics & no Jews. It is concluded from an analysis of their answers that managers do not regularly expose themselves to publications which present a liberal point of view & that their att's on econ welfare policies tend to be conservative. They are slightly more liberal, however, when liberalism is defined in terms of free speech & Negro rights. They are also more than average in favor of educ. Their conservatism is of the moderate, pragmatic, middle-of-the-road variety; their public-service orientation sets them apart from the business executive. I. Langnas.
