El pasado 27 de junio de 2018, el grupo de investigación «Derecho de internet» DDI (grupo consolidado AGAUR 2017SGR1711), de los Estudios de Derecho y Ciencia Política de la UOC, organizó la Jornada «Inteligencia Artificial y Derecho," en la sede de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, en Av. El passat 27 de juny de 2018, el grup de recerca Dret d'Internet - DDI (grup consolidat AGAUR 2017SGR1711), dels Estudis de Dret i Ciència Política de la UOC, va organitzar la jornada «Intel·ligència Artificial i Dret», a la seu de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, a Av. del Tibidabo, 39, de Barcelona. Com a ponents es va comptar amb la presència dels professors Manuel Desantes (catedràtic de Dret Internacional Privat, Universitat d'Alacant), Jane C. Ginsburg, Morton L. After several failed national attempts (notably, in Germany and Spain) to secure remuneration for press publishers for the licensing of press contents by aggregation services and search engines, the proposed Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market grants press publishers an exclusive related right that would allow them to license (or prohibit) digital uses of their press publications for a period of 20 years. This proposal completely upsets the delicate (and necessary) balance between the protection of copyright and the non-protection of information. It is contrary to international obligations (such as Art.10(1) BC) and inconsistent with CJEU doctrine concluding that that linking to contents freely available online does not qualify as an act of communication to the public (Svensson, Bestwater, C-More Entertainment, GS Media). Because of the fundamental role that news and information plays in a democratic society, and specially on the internet, any copyright rule affecting news must be carefully balanced. An exclusive right to control (authorize, prohibit or license in exclusive) the linking of press contents online may have negative effects for the competition in the market and for the development of the information society altogether and fail to achieve its purpose. Nothing suggests that a related right is going to achieve anything different from what has been achieved through the authors' rights in press-publications. If we want to "ensure quality journalism and citizen's access to information" a related right for press publishers is not the way to go! Copyright should not be (mis)used to secure fair remuneration for the value of information; these are two different assets. ; This working paper is a transcript of a lecture provided by Professor Xalabarder on November 2, 2016 at the University of Glasgow as part of CREATe Public Lecture Series 2016.

El divendres 20 de maig de 2016, els Estudis de Dret i Ciència Política de la UOC van organitzar aquesta jornada amb la European Copyright Society (ECS) per tractar diverses qüestions de drets d'autor que actualment estan essent examinades a la Unió Europea i per intercanviar opinions amb la comunitat acadèmica i professional de la propietat intel·lectual. A la jornada es va parlar dels informes emesos fins ara per l'ECS relatius a la qualificació dels enllaços com a actes de comunicació al públic (cas TJUE Svensson), l'harmonització de límits (cas TJUE Deckmyn) i la remuneració d'autors (cas TJUE Reprobel). També es van tractar altres qüestions sobre l'harmonització del dret d'autor a la Unió Europea, incloses la Comunicació de la Comissió de la UE «A Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe» COM(2015)192final, i les consultes públiques sobre «The Role of Publishers in the Copyright Value Chain and the panorama exception» de març del 2016 i sobre «The Review of the EU Copyright rules» de juliol del 2014. Finalment, també es van examinar les propostes de Directiva sobre «Contracts for the supply of digital content» COM(2015)634final i de Reglament sobre «Cross-border portability of online content services» COM(2015)627final. ; On 20th May 2016, the Department of Law and Political Sciences of the UOC organized this conference with the European Copyright Society (ECS) to discuss various issues related to copyright that are currently being examined by the European Union, as well as to share opinions on intellectual property with the academic and professional community. At the conference, there was a discussion on the reports issued to date by the ECS in relation to the classification of links as acts of communication to the public (CJEU Svensson case), the standardization of limits (CJEU Deckmyn case) and remuneration of authors (CJEU Reprobel case). Other issues to be addressed included the standardization of copyright throughout the EU, included in the EU Commission Communication "A Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe" COM(2015)192final, and the public enquiries on "The Role of Publishers in the Copyright Value Chain and the panorama exception", of March 2016, and on "The Review of the EU Copyright rules", of July 2014. Lastly, there was an analysis of the proposal of the Directives on "Contracts for the supply of digital content" COM(2015)634final and the Regulations on "Cross-border portability of online content services" COM(2015)627final. ; El viernes 20 de mayo de 2016, los Estudios de Derecho y Ciencia Política de la UOC organizaron esta jornada con la European Copyright Society (ECS) para tratar diversas cuestiones de derechos de autor que están actualmente siendo examinadas en la Unión Europea y para intercambiar opiniones con la comunidad académica y profesional de la propiedad intelectual. En la jornada se habló de los informes emitidos hasta ahora por el ECS relativos a la calificación de los enlaces como actos de comunicación al público (caso TJUE Svensson), la armonización de límites (caso TJUE Deckmyn) y la remuneración de autores (caso TJUE Reprobel). El 3 de desembre de 2009, els Estudis de Dret i Ciència Política de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), juntament amb l'Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), van organitzar la jornada "Usos i abusos del peer-to-peer", que va tenir lloc a la seu central de la UOC a Barcelona. La jornada la van coordinar els professors d'aquests Estudis integrants del grup de recerca Interdret de l'IN3. ; On 3 December 2009, UOC's Law and Political Science Department, in collaboration with the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), organised the workshop 'Use and abuse of peer-to-peer filesharing', at the main offices of the UOC in Barcelona. The workshop was coordinated by the lecturers of this department, members of the Interdret research group at the IN3. ; El pasado 3 de diciembre de 2009, los Estudios de Derecho y Ciencia Política de la UOC junto con el Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), organizaron la Jornada "Usos y abusos del peer-to-peer", que tuvo lugar en la sede central de la UOC en Barcelona. La jornada fue coordinada por los profesores de estos estudios, integrantes del grupo de investigación Interdret del IN3.
