Abstract
This study investigated the influence of the audience and narrator's gender on spoken narratives produced by Chinese children.
Sixty typically developing five- and six-year-old children were evenly divided into three groups. Each group was assigned one
audience, being a teacher, a same-age peer, or a younger peer. The children were asked to view a wordless picture book and retell
the story to the audience. The results showed that the children tended to use more macrostructure elements when telling stories to
same-age peers, with boys using more macrostructure elements than girls. Girls used more words and more events when narrating to
younger peers, whereas boys used more words, more diverse words, and more evaluative language when narrating to teachers. In
addition, the children marked temporality more in narratives to younger peers than to same-age peers. The findings indicated that
the audience and narrator's gender influence the narrative production of Chinese children.

To evaluate the teaching effect of a trauma training program in emergency cranial neurosurgery in Cambodia on surgical outcomes for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). We analyzed the data of TBI patients who received emergency burr-hole trephination or craniotomy from a prospective, descriptive cohort study at the Military Region 5 Hospital between January 2015 and December 2016. TBI patients who underwent emergency cranial neurosurgery were primarily young men, with acute epidural hematoma (EDH) and acute subdural hematoma (SDH) as the most common diagnoses and with long transfer delay. The incidence of favorable outcomes three months after chronic intracranial hematoma, acute SDH, acute EDH, and acute intracerebral hematoma were 96.28%, 89.2%, 93%, and 97.1%, respectively. Severe traumatic brain injury was associated with long-term unfavorable outcomes (Glasgow Outcome Scale of 1–3) (OR = 23.9, 95% CI: 3.1–184.4). Surgical outcomes at 3 months appeared acceptable. This program in emergency cranial neurosurgery was successful in the study hospital, as evidenced by the fact that the relevant surgical capacity of the regional hospital increased from zero to an acceptable level.

In this study, three different titanium surfaces with microscale grooves (width 0.5–1, 1–1.5, and 1.5–2 µm) and nanoscale nanoparticles (diameter 20–30, 30–50, and 50–100 nm, respectively) were obtained by treatment with different concentrations of hydrofluoric acid (HF) and at different etching times (1%, 3 min; 0.5%, 12 min; and 1.5%, 12 min, respectively; denoted as groups HF1, HF2, and HF3). The biological response to the three different titanium surfaces was evaluated by in vitro human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (hBMMSC) experiments and in vivo animal experiments. The results showed that cell adhesion, proliferation, alkaline phosphatase activity, and mineralization of hBMMSCs were increased in the HF3 group. After the different surface implants were inserted into the distal femurs of 40 rats, the bone–implant contact in groups HF1, HF2, and HF3 was 33.17%±2.2%, 33.82%±3.42%, and 41.04%±3.08%, respectively. Moreover, the maximal pullout force in groups HF1, HF2, and HF3 was 57.92±2.88, 57.83±4.09, and 67.44±6.14 N, respectively. The results showed that group HF3 with large micron grooves (1.5–2.0 µm) and large nanoparticles (50–100 nm) showed the best bio-functionality for the hBMMSC response and osseointegration in animal experiments compared with other groups.
