This research sheds lights on the deep transformations of the Israeli security theory and the re-reading of the security and strategic calculations in the period 2005-2008. In the introduction, the researcher concentrates on the research problem, the objectives, the methodology and the basic determinants of the Israeli security theory and its theoretical and conceptual frameworks given in different schools such as the traditional military, the contemporary strategic, the social and the developmental approaches. One of the consequences of Lebanon war launched by Israel against Hezbollah is the abandon of the unilateral disengagement plan carried out by Sharon from Gaza and northern West Bank because such withdrawal from one side will be understood as harsh defeat for Israel in the light of Lebanon War. In addition to the Israeli re-emphasizing the strategic situation of Iran in the light of Iran's persistent endeavors to possess nuclear capabilities. The nuclear military capabilities possessed by Iran will enable her to balance Israel in weapons of terror and that would further enable Iran to have a share in the spheres of influence in the Middle East. Writing about Israeli security theory and the Israeli studies in general is crucial at this juncture from the Palestinian and the Arab perspectives because of lack of good literatures about this area of research. This type of research could be helpful to the Palestinian and the Arab decision-makers when it comes to the process of taking decisions in issues related directly or indirectly to Israel.
The main goal of this research paper is to examine the core role of popular nonviolent resistance in transforming the Israeli Palestinian conflict through all available peaceful means. We have deeply gone through different definitions of nonviolence as an international concept and we explored the various historical stages and prominent stations of this type of nonviolence. To elaborate more on this goal, we can say that the strategic aim is to bridge the gap between theories and approaches of conflict transformations and the current study of peaceful resistance. Nonviolence is one strategic options for the Palestinians if we realize that the political alternatives and narrow and limited. Methodology adopted in this research is primarily qualitative with analytical and empirical connotations and implications, we relied on both primary and secondary data to reach the final results and conclusions. As far the final findings are concerned, this paper concluded that there is a gap between nonviolence peaceful resistance in the field in one hand and the decision makers on the other hand. There is a gap those who practiced or who embraced nonviolence as strategic resistance and those who put political goals and practiced political leadership. There is a lack of a proper understanding of peaceful nonviolent resistance and its role in liberating and emancipating Palestine from the occupation. This research paper aims to shed light on the theoretical perspectives and operational approaches adopted by the Palestinian civil society organization in connection with the peacebuilding and reconciliation process in the Palestinian context. The research question is what are the different moves, debates, and initiatives taken by the Palestinian civil society organizations to put an end to the conflict? Why could not they succeed or produce tangible results in fulfilling this goal? The first part of the paper considers debates, contexts, and developments of civil society organizations, in general, and Palestine, in particular, as well as their roles on political, national, cultural, and developmental levels. Civil society deepens its peaceful intervention in many developed and developing countries to build domestic peace and achieve reconciliation, along with other tasks and duties. Palestine's case is not an exception but a unique case since the independent sovereign state of Palestine does not exist on the ground. The second part aims to deeply analyze the roles of civil society in the reconciliation process and to assess why this process failed to produce fruitful results until now. To use narrative methodologies, the paper collects primary data through structured interviews and the focus group. Interviews were conducted with the cadres and activists in the Palestinian civil society and other professionals and experts in this field. The last part concludes that civil society, especially among the youth, is necessary for reconciliation not only between Israeli and Palestinians but also within the Palestinians as well. Keywords: Civil Society, Peacebuilding, Israel, Palestine, conflict.
This research aims at studying the complicated nature of the identity crisis suffered by the second generation of Palestinian Americans. This goal has been further explored by referring to different theoretical perspectives and conceptual paradigms to understand and analyze this topic under investigation. Many models and approaches have been used to reflect on the experiences of the Palestinians living in the US as Diasporic communities, facing the hardships of refugeedom and the pain of Return dream to the homeland. Both researchers attempted to rationalize the usage of these western related theories to fit the Palestinian context by matching them with a set of other literary studies, resources and oral interviews with the second generation of the US-born Palestinian Americans. Methodologically, the current research is qualitative, descriptive and of analytical nature, benefiting from primary and secondary data available in various research areas. The two researchers conducted field interviews with the second generation of Palestinian – Americans that revealed that all these factors including occupation, seeking refuge, American democracy, the American press and stereotyping created an identity crisis to those Palestinians. However, that crisis can be solved in the long run if a real political transformation took place on real ground at the level of the American – Palestinian relations and at the level of the relationship between Arabs and Israelis in the new Middle East.
This article analyses the praxis of nonviolent resistance in Palestine through the lens of Gramsci. First, it begins with a historical inquiry into the major phenomena of the Palestinian resistance tradition. Its nonviolent expressions are highlighted in order to prove their continuity as well as their effectiveness, focusing on three uprisings of the national movement where this form of resistance was deployed: the Arab revolt, the First Intifada, and the Al Aqsa Intifada. Then, it presents the framework of the theoretical tradition of nonviolent struggle in order to interpret Palestinian popular resistance actions and strategies. Finally, these forms of resistance are embedded, and subsumed, in a Gramscian alternative hegemonic paradigm, so as to enhance the discussion around an organic nonviolent strategy of political resistance.
