Cultural Studies have played a pivotal role in understanding and evaluating the power dynamics of the social, political, economic and ethical world order by empirically engaging and focusing on the present-day culture, tracing its historical roots and explicating its attributes with reference to a particular literary text and its reception in a society. Arvind Adiga, the Man-Booker Prize winning Indo-Australian author, in Selection Day, has adroitly detailed how cricket as an individual entity impacts the cultural phenomena of a society by confronting its inherent myriad issues. The narrative delves deep into the lives of two siblings – Radha and Manju, witnesses the dramatic turnaround of events and tries to capture the themes of unfulfilled desires and preordained destinies. The novel also explores how the sport holds different meanings and significance for different characters, each of whom view the game in the light of their own ideology. The author foresees and sensitizes the theme of homosexuality, which is still a taboo and been unheard of, within the sports fraternity. Adiga's critique of the parental felony, embodied in Mohan Kumar, and its repercussions is the most compelling theme at the heart of this work of fiction. Selection Day powerfully binds together the societal phenomena of class construction, unquenchable thirst for money, sexual orientations and ideologies with a single thread and studies how culture, in itself, is an ever-evolving phenomenon.

This article situates India–Russia relations in the historical, regional and global context, and the ideological and political discourse in the two countries. It argues that though geopolitics and state interest might have been the immediate, even the compelling, reason behind the Indo-Soviet ties, their coming together was also in accordance with domestic political discourse in the two countries. The article tries to answer questions such as: Why is Russia important in global politics and for India? What are the issues on which the world views and the national interest of the two countries converge? What are the major challenges and opportunities for India–Russia relations? It argues that the two countries need to find and agree upon certain ideational or ideological commonalities to give stability to their relationship.

AbstractHighly fluorescent cesium lead‐based (CsPbX3, X═Br, Cl, I) inorganic metal halide perovskites semiconductors have gained immense popularity in the last decade due to the economic and straightforward fabrication techniques involved in these materials along with their excellent electrical and optoelectronic properties. Cesium lead halide nanocrystals are well known for their fluorescence in the visible region with extremely high internal quantum efficiencies; thus making them highly suitable for the fabrication of efficient light‐emitting diodes, transistors and photodetectors. Although perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are more fluorescent compared to their bulk counterpart, there have been very few reports on the synthesis and characterization of CsPbX3 perovskite NCs. In this work, we have synthesized and investigated the CsPbBr3 and CsPbBr2I NCs to understand the fundamental optoelectronic properties and structural integrity in mixed halide perovskite NCs. We have estimated ~10 nm average particle size of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals from the high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) while CsPbBr2I has ~16 nm average particle size with slightly higher polydispersity. Most interestingly, we do not observe any phase segregation of bromide and iodide ions in mixed halide perovskite quantum dots due to finite size effect. This is also confirmed by the energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDS) mapping data. However, CsPbBr3 nanocrystals are relatively more stable than the mixed halide perovskite nanocrystals due to fewer defects. Anomalous behavior is observed in the photoluminescence intensity with the variation of precursor concentration indicating a complex nature nanoparticle synthesis.

The study examines the response of the Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan and the United States) to People's Republic of China (PRC)'s predatory acquisition of foreign technologies. This article looks at PRC's science and technology (S&T) policy and its relation to the grand strategy of attaining global superpower status. The meteoric rise of the PRC in the last four decades has amazed many. Innovation and technological advancement and their alignment with government policies are important factors in this rise. The study notes that PRC's S&T policy involves, among others, acquiring foreign technologies through illicit means that include stealing through espionage and sophisticated cyberattacks and forcing overseas companies operating in China to share intellectual property rights with local partners. Alarmed by PRC's predatory strategy, the Quad countries have taken steps to regulate, and in some cases prohibit, the PRC's targeted foreign investments and coercive and opportunistic takeovers. The article argues that the Quad countries need to coordinate their efforts to effectively counter PRC's illicit acquisition of their technologies.
