This paper analyzes the macro-economic impact of controlling fossil energy consumption in China by using a social accounting matrix framework. The empirical results show that, first, restricting the exploitation of fossil energy resources will lead to a decline in the output of other production activities, thereby reducing the factor income and the living standards of residents. Second, improving energy efficiency can promote increased output in other production sectors, and raise factor returns and residents' living standards. Third, raising the price of energy products will result in higher costs of the entire society. The stronger the dependence on the energy sector, the greater the increase in the industrial cost. Therefore, the government should increase investment in energy efficiency, keep to energy intensity constraints, restrict the extraction amount of energy resources, and reasonably control energy prices based on market environmental factors.

The stylized fact that strong economic growth is usually accompanied with strong export growth leads many people to conclude that the export sector is the main driving force behind those episodes. The model in this paper, however, shows that the non-tradable sector may also generate high economic growth together with high export growth. This paper measures the contribution value of 16 listed banks in China to systemic risk using a CoVaR model with quantile regression, using daily stock price data from 2015 to 2021. The systemically important banks in China are selected by ranking the magnitude of the contribution value to systemic risk. The results of this paper's selection overlap with the official list of Chinese systemically important banks in 2022, which verifies the reliability of the paper's calculation results and provides data support for the differentiated regulation of systemic banks in China.

Rather than being a form of explicitly commodified reproduction, informal surrogacy is practiced (and interpreted) in a working-class community in Beijing as part of local affective life, viewed in terms of gifting, favors, filial piety, and family concerns. Through this practice a particular form of biopower, articulated in affective terms, limits some women to serving as instruments of reproduction. Unlike the common western assumption of a physical body as separate from the experiencing subject, the Chinese body has a subjective, experiential dimension. This subjective body harbors an agency with the potential to transform the power exercised on it and to impact the circumstances of the surrogate's life. I contextualize such agency in the analysis of the ambivalence of these women toward surrogacy and the violence of local kinship systems. Through analyzing how surrogates use their bodies to transform codes, forces and reform the self, the article suggests that informal surrogacy interacts and shapes local affective and political economies.

Pressure measurement under harsh environments, especially at high temperatures, is of great interest to many industries. The applicability of current pressure sensing technologies in extreme environments is limited by the embedded electronics which cannot survive beyond 300 °C ambient temperature as of today. In this paper, a pressure signal processing and wireless transmission module based on the cutting-edge Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices is designed and developed, for a commercial piezoresistive MEMS pressure sensor from Kulite Semiconductor Products, Inc. Equipped with this advanced high-temperature SiC electronics, not only the sensor head, but the entire pressure sensor suite is capable of operating at 450 °C. The addition of wireless functionality also makes the pressure sensor more flexible in harsh environments by eliminating the costly and fragile cable connections. The proposed approach was verified through prototype fabrication and high temperature bench testing from room temperature up to 450 °C. This novel high-temperature pressure sensing technology can be applied in real-time health monitoring of many systems involving harsh environments, such as military and commercial turbine engines.

This essay examines the dang'an system and its post-Mao transformation in order to explore China's recent neoliberal governance. The transformation of the dang'an from a mode of socialist control to a mechanism for enacting market economy serves to spectralize (reduce and derive) Maoist socialism for entrepreneurial capital. Such revisions have also given rise to new forms of spatialization, which reduce workers' consciousness of class and historical temporality and sustain stability. The dang'an and its revisions illustrate how authoritarian and illiberal measures are tinkered into neoliberal technologies in a postsocialist context.
