Purpose
– The purpose of this paper is to quantify the monetary amount of relationship investment in an investment banking context, investigate the drivers behind these relationship investments and look for evidence indicating reciprocity from the clients who receive these relationship investments. Relationship marketing has been one of the dominant mantras in marketing strategy circles, yet there is a lack of empirical evidence to prove significant relationship investment and reciprocity between exchange partners.


Design/methodology/approach
– Relationship investment as the monetary amount by which the fair value of a loan at issuance is below its par value is measured. Regression analysis is used to study the drivers of relationship investment, including relationship depth, relationship breadth and relationship potential. Finally, reciprocity is studied as the extent to which bank's expectations are realized through future revenues.


Findings
– Based on 164 loans issued by a multinational investment bank, it was found that the bank provides significant monetary benefit to its corporate clients. The amount of monetary benefit provided to each client depends on the breadth and potential of the bank-borrower relationship. The author also finds evidence suggesting that the clients reciprocated these relationship investments and the bank anticipated the reciprocity by clients.


Originality/value
– This paper is the first to empirically show a significant monetary investment in a relationship-marketing context, with the intention of building stronger relationship with clients and earning future revenues through reciprocity.

The article analyzes the works of Vyacheslav Ivanov on Fyodor Dostoevsky. Using the material from the book "Dostoevsky: Tragedy — Myth — Mysticism" (1932), the research principles and interpretive strategies implemented by Vyacheslav Ivanov in interpreting the female characters in Dostoevsky's novels "Crime and Punishment," "The Devils," and "The Idiot" are identified. It is shown that Ivanov's conception of the artistic features of characters such as Sonya Marmeladova, Alena Ivanovna, Maria Timofeevna, and Nastasya Filippovna are revealed in the context of the "main myth" of the works. The mythopoetic and functional aspects are highlighted as the most significant in Ivanov's interpretations of the female characters. Additionally, it is argued that the psychological and spiritual characteristics of the heroines are not overlooked by the hermeneutist, as understanding the nuances of their inner world was necessary for him to reveal the mythopoetic functions. Through Ivanov's interpretations of Dostoevsky's female characters, it becomes evident that the poet-thinker's approach to the writer's works represents a synthesis of philosophical conceptualization and historical-literary perspective.

For the first time in art history the problem of the appeal of architects of the digital era to the reconstruction of images of objects of the organic world through nonlinear shaping is raised. The aim of the research is to establish the archetypal nature of the images of nonlinear architecture through the essence of the phenomenon of sporadicity and conscious choice. It is revealed on the basis of the author's artistic and figurative concept, which represents architecture as a symbiosis of phenomenological, procedural (evolutionary) and reproduced existences. The methodological basis is provided by the scientific works of scientists in the field of art and architecture (F. Johnson, A. Vidler, P. Schumacher, I. Dobritsyna, I. Azizyan, E. Lapshina, E. Sokolova, A. Shamruk). Through the prism of retrospection and comparative analysis, the architects aspirations to imitate the objects of the surrounding reality in the forms and structures of structures are revealed. The author substantiates the premeditation and randomness in the modeling of images of nonlinear architecture as a result of synthetic architecture. It is concluded that in appealing to the prototypes of real reality, the architect of the digital age acted as the creator of the beautiful, designed in the image and likeness of nature.

Introduction. This article focuses on the investigation of Boole's theory of categorical syllogism, exposed in his book "The Mathematical analysis of Logic". That part of Boolean legacy has been neglected in the prevailed investigations on the history of logic; the latter provides the novelty of the work presented.Methodology and sources. The formal reconstruction of the methods of algebraic presentation of categorical syllogism, as it is exposed in the original work of Boole, is conducted. The character of Boolean methods is investigated in the interconnections with the principles of symbolic algebra on the one hand, and with the principles of signification, taken from R. Whately, on the other hand. The approaches to signification, grounding the syllogistic theories of Boole and Brentano, are analyzed in comparison, wherefrom we explain the reasons why the results of those theories are different so much.Results and discussion. It is demonstrated here that Boole has borrowed the principles of signification from the Whately's book "The Elements of Logic". The interpreting the content of the terms as classes, being combined with methods of symbolic algebra, has determined the core features of Boolean syllogism theory and its unexpected results. In contrast to Whately, Boole conduct the approach to ultimate ends, overcoming the restrictions imposed by Aristotelean doctrine. In particular, he neglects the distinction of subject and predicate among the terms of proposition, the order of premises, and provide the possibility to draw conclusions with negative terms. At the same time Boole missed that the forms of inference, parallel to Bramantip and Fresison, are legitimate forms in his system. In spite of the apparent affinities between the Boolean and Brentanian theories of judgment, the syllogistics of Boole appeared to be more flexible. The drawing of particular conclusion from universal premises is allowable in Boolean theory, but not in Brentanian one; besides, in his theory is allowable the drawing of conclusion from two negative premises, which is prohibited in Aristotelian syllogistic.Conclusion. Boole consistently interpreted signification of terms as classes; being combine with methods symbolic algebra it led to very flexible syllogism theory with rich results.

У статті досліджено особливості управління у містах з районним поділом. Приділена увага виявленню основних проблем розподілу повноважень між органами місцевого самоврядування у містах з районним поділом та аналізу чинного законодавства з цього питання. Зазначено, що у процесі децентралізації публічної влади, при організації управління у містах із районним поділом, необхідно, перш за все, враховувати інтереси мешканців територіальної громади району у місті й застосовувати виважений та диференційований підхід з урахуванням населеності міста і його території, а також доцільно використовувати принцип субсидіарності.
Метою статті є дослідження особливостей в управлінні в містах із районним поділом в Україні.
Наукова новизна полягає у дослідженні та виокремленні особливостей управління в містах із районним поділом в Україні, а також у формулюванні конкретних пропозицій та рекомендацій щодо усунення проблемних питань, пов'язаних з управлінням у цих містах.
Висновки. Вирішення проблемних питань щодо дієвої організації управління у містах із районним поділом має відбуватися у відповідності до процесів децентралізації публічної влади, з урахуванням принципу субсидіарності, а також максимального наближення соціальних послуг органів публічної влади до населення на відповідній території, яке крім національного законодавства передбачено також Європейською Хартією місцевого самоврядування. Реалізація принципу субсидіарності під час розподілу повноважень між органами місцевого самоврядування у містах із районним поділом дозволить здійснювати управління на різних рівнях управління найефективніше. Вирішення проблеми щодо належної організації управління у містах із районним поділом потребує найскорішого врегулювання на вищому законодавчому рівні. Вона може бути вирішена як у межах Конституції України, так і Закону «Про місцеве самоврядування в Україні» шляхом внесення відповідних змін та доповнень до них, а також прийняттям комплексу нових нормативно-правових актів, насамперед законів України: «Про адміністративно-територіальний устрій України», «Про територіальну громаду», «Про міські агломерації та міста-супутники» й ін. При цьому, на наш погляд, вельми вдалим було б вирішення цього питання шляхом прийняття Закону України «Про місцеві референдуми», який би демократично урегулював питання управління в містах із районним поділом, де населення відповідного району як самостійного елементу адміністративно-територіального устрою України у відповідності до своїх конституційних прав щодо участі у вирішенні питань місцевого значення, обрало би власну модель врядування, яка ще більше наблизить Україну до європейських стандартів місцевого управління та самоврядування.

The article analyzes the foreign experience of the prefect institute functioning. The historical background of the introduction of this institute in some European countries and its current state are investigated. The expediency of the institution of the prefect is determined. The prospects for the introduction of the prefect's position in Ukraine are clarified. The main attention is paid to the issue of the model of the prefect institution in the bills of Ukraine. ; У статті проаналізовано зарубіжний досвід функціонування інституту префекта. Досліджено історичні передумови запровадження цього інституту у деяких країнах Європи та його сучасний стан. Визначено доцільність функціонування інституту префекта. З'ясовано перспективи впровадження посади префекта в Україні. Основну увагу приділено питанню моделі інституту префекта в законопроектах України.

Introduction. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the institution of postdoctoral studies, which exists in all countries with a developed science and technology complex. Methods. The research is based on the study of scientific literature, normative legal documents, reports on the monitoring of the scientific foundations activities, as well as on a retrospective analysis of individual characteristics of the institute of postdoctoral studies. Results and Discussion. To make possible the development of the Russian-language scholarly dispute the author has clarified the terms defining some notions of the postdoctoral institution. The main results include the synthesis of the practice of postdoctoral training of young scientists abroad and the identification of its features in the countries with the highest expenditures on science. Also, the article presents an analysis of the motives of young researchers for refusing from the university research and development in favor of a postdoc position. The article presents an analysis of characteristics and the practice of the postdoctoral institution functioning in the USA, Great Britain and Germany, where this form of personnel training exists for quite a long time and in the context of little attention of the government to it. Also, it presents the experience of such countries as China and Japan, where the postdoc programmes appeared only in 1980s and 1990s. The results obtained made it possible to draw a number of conclusions and reveal some regularities in the functioning of the institution under research. Conclusion. Postdoctoral training is an opportunity for improving the qualifications of a young scientist, however, the number of postdocs is growing much faster than the number of positions on the terms of an indefinite employment contract or tenured professors in university staff schedules. Статтю присвячено проблемі модернізації католицизму. В результаті проведеного дослідження авторкою встановлено, що значна кількість конфесійних прихильників залишилися на позиціях ортодоксального фідеїзму. Саме останній став духовно-релігійною першоосновою як для інтегрально-фашистських диктатур початку 20 століття, так і радикального розколу громадської думки, який відбувся у зв'язку з поділом католиків на прихильників етноцентризму й антисемітизму та етнічної толерантності і космополітичності. Віряни в опитуваннях не вважають таку точку зору типово католицькою. Отже вона є радше модерновою версією католицької доктрини, аніж вираженням ортодоксії. Наголошено на тому, що контрортодоксальним та модерновим новоутворенням в руслі релігійної політики є також номінальне скасування принципу непогрішимості католицької ієрархії. Папство більше не претендує на визнання своєї вищості і домінату в питаннях оцінки статусу вірян. Звісно, ця ситуація є ще доволі далекою від модернізованого християнства, проте наближає до нього принаймні в частині примирення колись поляризованих таборів – ієрократії і пастви. Визначено, що подолання принципу непогрішимості випливає також із примирення думки папства із думкою релігійного загалу. Проте відносини священства із пересічними вірянами були істотним чином пом'якшені. Руйнування стереотипу непогрішимості папства істотним чином розбалансувало стан із легітимаційним ресурсом католицької церкви. Дефіцит останнього спостерігався у регулюванні сімейних відносин, зокрема – ситуацій із домашнім насильством та насильством батьків над дітьми. Очільники церкви були піддані нищівній критиці за зашкарублість власного світогляду та відсутність просування шляхом модернізації.

Community development is seen as a crucial factor to realize sustainable development and vice versa, and for indigenous peoples in particular due to their associations with nature and natural resources. However, historical exploitation of indigenous peoples has resulted in their underachievement worldwide. The popularization of the concept of sustainable development followed a series of international treaties and conventions that shed light on indigenous peoples&rsquo ; revival. Drawing upon Michel Foucault&rsquo ; s notion of the power-knowledge relationship, this article uses a case study of an indigenous tribe, the Smangus in Taiwan, to demonstrate how a politically, socially and economically disadvantaged community incorporates their traditional norms and customs into the notion of sustainable development and reinterprets it to adapt the community&rsquo ; s conditions. By re-uniting the community and establishing a cooperative organization, the community has revived cohesion in their community. The community&rsquo ; s conduct is investigated through the United Nations&rsquo ; Sustainable Development Goals 2015&ndash ; 2030, and the article illustrates how it fulfils three Targets and the extent to which they are fulfilled. To conclude, Smangus&rsquo ; case remind us of the importance of achieving sustainable development goals on micro- and local levels, and the value of empowering local communities to pursue their own sustainable development goals according to their circumstances. This article ends with suggestions for future research, and suggests that more studies using such a bottom-up approach to sustainable development would help to accumulate knowledge and experiences to establish a pattern of success to help other disadvantaged communities, draw focus to the need to bridge the policy gaps between the United Nations and local communities, and recall attention to the role of micro- and local communities to achieve sustainable development goals.

This article analyzes the fundamental conditions for solving problems of individual and social integrity. Status of cultural and spiritual crisis modern society and human potential deformation actualize the need to find the underlying factors solutions existential problems. In this context, the focus analysis research is transferred to one of the fundamental spiritual phenomena involved in solving these problems - creativity, creative work. To reveal the productive potential of the phenomenon, the author examines the conditions and mechanisms of creativity, and the main threat to its realization of personality. Such a threat is a modern system of total consumption, which was the culmination of the modern society development.
