PurposeThis study aims to investigate mechanisms and boundary conditions of the impact of customer engagement strategies (CESs) on customer loyalty (CL) based on goal-framing and well-being theory.Design/methodology/approachThrough a three-stage, time-lagged research design, 246 valid samples were obtained. This study tested and validated the proposed framework using hierarchical regression analysis and a moderated mediation procedure.FindingsFirst, CESs have a significant positive impact on CL. Second, consumer well-being (CWB) partially mediates the CESs–CL relationship. Third, information processing style (IPS) moderates the impact of CESs on CWB, with a more pronounced effect observed under the affective processing style. Finally, IPS further moderates the indirect effect of CESs on CL, indicating that CESs enhance CL through increased CWB, particularly under the affective processing style.Originality/valueRevealing the pivotal role of CESs in enhancing CL at the corporate level helps bridge the gap between companies and customers, thereby facilitating the establishment of long-term cooperative relationships. Additionally, introducing the concept of CWB into the study of CL offers a novel perspective for understanding customer behavior.

Although empathy is understood as a leadership trait, recognition of its worth in the operation of organizations is lacking. Our aim in this study was to examine the relationship between manager empathy and employee innovative behavior by introducing the mediating role of guanxi. Amos
and SPSS were used to test the proposed model comprising data obtained from 275 employees and 112 of their managers in 10 Chinese companies. Results of structural equation modeling revealed that manager empathy was positively related to employee innovative behavior; moreover, guanxi played
a partial mediating role in this relationship. In the context of guanxi culture in China, our findings provide new insights into how employee innovative behavior can be affected by manager empathy, and suggest that managers should improve their empathy skill and build positive guanxi with
employees to enhance employees' innovative behavior.

AbstractThis study explores a student-centered teaching method in postgraduate courses. Teacher-centered classroom teaching cannot fully stimulate learning initiative and enthusiasm of students. Student-centered means that students actively learn and construct knowledge by participating in teaching activities. This study presents a student-centered online–offline hybrid teaching method, which adopts student-centered case-based teaching and online–offline case discussion in the postgraduate courses of computer science. The latest engineering cases are integrated into teaching and a case library is constructed. Taking the digital image processing course as an example, student-centered teaching allows students to choose what to learn and how to learn. Case-based teaching makes students better understand the application of theory of knowledge. It can introduce multiple perspectives, promote understanding and reflection on problems, and help students develop higher-level thinking, analysis, and synthesis skills. This study explores online–offline case discussion method in the student-centered teaching and proposes the principles of case design of postgraduate courses. Revised Bloom's taxonomy is used for teaching assessment. The actual teaching effect shows that student-centered case-based teaching and online–offline case discussion have achieved better teaching effect.

This paper uses the text data mining method to separate the intonation in the annual reports of credit risk enterprises and non-credit risk enterprises, quantify it, and study the impact of annual report intonation on the effectiveness of credit risk prediction. In the empirical research, this paper uses the factor analysis method for some traditional financial variables, and uses the extracted components and intonation variables to predict the credit risk through the logistic model. The results show that the tone of enterprises with credit risk is more negative, and the degree of pessimism is significantly positively correlated with the probability of credit risk. By comparing the ROC curves of the prediction results before and after the addition of intonation variables, adding intonation variables to the credit risk prediction based on financial variables can improve the effectiveness of the prediction.

The origin of SARS-CoV-2, the agent that causes the global pandemic known as COVID-19, is of both heated Academic debate and political debate. As this directly affect policy decision and global politics, this matter must be considered with uttermost scrutiny. The leading academic hypothesis of the origin was that of a natural recombination event between the Bat coronavirus RaTG13 and the pangolin coronavirus MP789, followed by adaptation in humans after zoonotic transfer. However, this theory hinges critically on the validity of both RaTG13 and MP789, which require both strains to be able to be independently sequenced, tested and validated for infectivity of it's original host. Here we provide evidence that the validity of both strains are highly dubious and are incapable of sufficing the required conditions for both to be considered valid evidence for the hypothesis of a natural origin of SARS-CoV-2.

Although a plethora of studies demonstrate that information technology (IT) has a positive influence on integration, collaboration and coordination side of green supply chain management, our knowledge about the influence of IT resources on governance side remains limited, especially the relational and contractual governance, two of the fundamental governances in green supply chain management. Based on the transaction and agency cost perspective and literature of information systems and B2B governance, this study investigates how IT resources affect the effects of relational and contractual governance. The results show that IT resources could improve the relational governance (i.e., joint-actions) and contractual governance (explicit and contingent contract clauses designing), and thus, effectively mitigate partner&rsquo ; s opportunism. Finally, the theoretical contribution and implications for managers are also given in the end.

Drawing from Stephan Feuchtwang&rsquo ; s influential notion of &ldquo ; imperial metaphor,&rdquo ; this article explores the role that the state played in the development of the Mazu cult in late imperial China. I argue that the state was central in the canonization of Mazu, elevating her from a polyvalent local object of devotion to a key deity in a national cult that strongly reflected official ideology. State canonization involved three deeply intertwined strategies to standardize, give public recognition, and promote a range of local beliefs and practices: the conferral of official titles, the incorporation of local gods and goddesses into the register of sacrifices, and the construction of official temples. As a result of these interwoven processes, Mazu became associated with domestic defense and warfare, the protection of government officials, and the involvement in political endeavors. As such, the imperial version of goddess worship served to justify and reinforce imperial authority. For all the analytical strength of the notion of imperial metaphor, I contend, however, that it needs to be supplemented with and critiqued by Robert Hymes&rsquo ; &ldquo ; personal model,&rdquo ; in order to fully understand the complexity and dynamism of the Mazu devotion, and more generally, of popular religion in late imperial China.
