Purpose This pilot study evaluates the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) for depression, anxiety, and hope among adolescent and young adult (AYA) diagnosed with cancer. Method: 10 AYAs with a primary sarcoma diagnosis participated in an open pilot of SFBT for their depression between January and June 2019 delivered by trained social work interns. Results All participants completed four planned sessions and reported strong acceptability of SFBT. Statistically significant improvements were observed for pre- and post-treatment scores for depression, anxiety, and levels of hope. These improvements were maintained at 1-month follow up, with significant patterns of difference in study participants' depression, anxiety, and levels of hope over time. Conclusions SFBT is an acceptable intervention approach for depression (and anxiety) among AYAs diagnosed with cancer. SFBT offers a brief, strength-based, and hope-engendering approach to address mental health concerns among young adult diagnosed with cancer.

Purpose: This study evaluates a parent education program (PEP), a 13-session group intervention, for single fathers' parental self-efficacy and father-child relationship in rural areas in China. Methods: Through convenience sampling, 16 single fathers received a parental education program for their parental self-efficacy and the father-child relationship between May 30 and August 30, 2020. Results: Most single fathers (14 out of 16) completed all intervention sessions and assessments. Statistically significant improvements were observed for pre-, post-, and follow-up scores for parental self-efficacy, father-child relationship, and certain subdomains of family participation. Conclusions: A group-based parental education program for parental self-efficacy and parent-child relationship shows promise for supporting single fathers from rural areas in China and in improving the wellness of their children.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of technology-based cancer survivorship care interventions according to the types of intervention and participant characteristics for adult cancer survivors; and the extent to which the types of intervention and participant characteristics moderate the observed effects. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing technology-based survivorship care interventions with control groups for posttreatment adult cancer survivors. Results: A total of 50 RCTs with 422 effect sizes suggested an overall significant treatment effect of technology-based survivorship care interventions. Survivorship care domains, comparison groups, and targeted outcomes were significant moderators influencing treatment effects. Conclusions: Our findings reinforce the value and applicability of technology-based survivorship care interventions that promote skill-building specifically. Interventions addressing multidimensional domains for survivorship care should be developed with advances in technology, which in turn influence enhancing cancer survivors' capacities to address psychosocial challenges.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for Chinese diabetic patients suffering from depression. Method: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, we researched seven electronic databases and two professional websites. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plot. Meta-analysis was conducted using meta-regression with robust variance estimation. Results: Final analysis included a total of 23 controlled trials containing 201 effect size estimates (including 5025 participants). Subgroup analyses indicated significant treatment effects for (1) depression outcomes, anxiety outcomes, psychological stress/distress outcomes, physiological outcomes, and general wellness outcomes, (2) studies with/without manuals, (3) studies using individual-based/group-based CBT, (4) studies in person/assisted with technology, and (5) studies providers with/without training. The treatment outcomes and intervention composition (CBT only versus CBT plus other approaches) were significant moderators. Conclusions: Findings of the study suggested CBT is a promising treatment option for depression among Chinese diabetes patients.

Purpose: To systematically review and meta-analyze all published studies, written in Chinese and published in China, focusing on mindfulness-based interventions for Chinese breast cancer patients' mental health and quality of life outcomes. Methods: Following the Cochrane guideline, this study searched across five electronic debases, two professional websites, two major Chinese oncology journals, and reference lists of existing reviews and included studies. Meta-analysis was conducted using meta-regression with robust variance estimation. Publication bias and risk of bias were assessed and evaluated in the final analysis. Results: A final of 35 clinical trials included 126 effect sizes and 3,100 participants. Studies reported an overall large and statistically significant treatment effect, g = 0.963, p < .001. Conclusions: Mindfulness-based interventions were significantly effective for Chinese breast cancer patients and are recommended for oncology social workers. Moderator analyses identified group-based mindfulness interventions as significantly more effective than individual-based interventions, and mindfulness-based interventions delivered as therapeutic treatment were significantly more effective than ones delivered as supportive treatment.

Objectives: Culturally adapted psychotherapeutic interventions have been developed to treat Latino depression and anxiety. Evidence is lacking regarding the overall effectiveness and generalizability of these adapted interventions. This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of psychotherapeutic interventions for Latino depression or anxiety. Method: A search of nine electronic databases and manual review of reference lists were conducted. Thirteen studies of randomized controlled trials were eligible and included for meta-analysis using robust variance estimation in meta-regression. Results: An overall small treatment effect that is statistically significant was identified for Latino depression or anxiety of d = 0.334, 95% confidence interval [0.049, 0.619], p < .05. Discussion and Implications: More research is needed to determine the effectiveness of culturally adapted psychotherapeutic interventions for Latino depression or anxiety.

Abstract
This study examined the association between depressive symptoms and self-rated health (SRH) and whether and how such association varies by education among older adults with cancer. Data came from the 2019 National Health Interview Survey. A total of 2,470 participants aged 65 or older who had been diagnosed with cancer by a doctor or other health professional were included in this study. Ordinal logistic regression was used to examine the association between depressive symptoms and SRH and whether and how such association varies by education among older adults with cancer. More depressive symptoms were associated with worse SRH. Such association became stronger with higher education among older adults with cancer. Findings confirm the associations between depressive symptoms and SRH among older adults with cancer. The differential impact of education on SRH and on the association between depressive symptoms and SRH highlights the importance of considering patients' educational attainment in a more comprehensive way when working with older adults with cancer. When conducting distress screening among cancer survivors, oncology social workers should be aware of the complex relationship between education and depression in relation to cancer survivors' SRH.
