AbstractBrown and Levinson's politeness theory (1978, 1987) is often challenged on its claim of the universality of face, in particular, the applicability of negative face to communicators from the sinosphere. This study argues that the notion of negative face is applicable to account for young Chinese people's communication strategies and behaviors during their intergenerational conflicts. Drawing on discursive psychology and conversation analysis approaches to the dialogic lyrics ofShénqǔaboutKǒngguīzú, this paper explores the dynamic construction process of young Chinese people's negative face. It reveals that this dynamic construction has been shaped by the cultural values of mixing traditional Confucian values with a new materialistic and individualistic orientation, and that adhering to the traditional cultural norm of harmony is crucial to satisfying negative face wants. This finding suggests that the mixed cultural values should be incorporated into the parametric system of Chinese negative face analysis.

There have been many studies on the differences between the public and private sectors; yet, these studies often do not address differences within the public sector. This article investigates the impacts of the private sector experience on the employment of different categories of public employees: public budgeting and finance (PBF) employees, professionals, and managers. It also compares the different impacts among mixed categories of PBF professionals, non-PBF professionals, PBF managers, and non-PBF managers. The results suggest that the private sector experience increases the likelihood of a public sector employee being in a PBF or professional position, while it decreases the propensity of a public sector employee to be in a managerial position. Moreover, while private sector experience negatively correlates with public employees' job satisfaction, the results are not significant for PBF employees and professionals, and the negative effects are much higher for non-PBF employees and nonprofessionals.

The study about the low-temperature performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIB) is of great significance at extreme temperatures, such as polar scientific research, space exploration, deep-sea exploration, military fields, and so on. In this study, normal devices and symmetrical devices were fabricated by ternary Li(Ni0.5Mn0.3Co0.2)O2 as cathode and graphite as anode at 25 and −20 °C. The results show that the specific discharge capacity of normal device is up to 120 mAh g−1 at 1 C and 25 °C. The specific capacity and energy density at 0.2 C and −20 °C are 106.05 mAh g−1 and 376.53 mWh g−1, respectively, which can reach 92.82% of that at 1 C and 25 °C. The value of activation energy Ea of the interface reaction of the LIB is calculated to be 63.72 kJ/mol by the Arrhenius equation. When the temperature dropped from 25 to −20 °C, the lattice spacing of Li1−x(Ni0.5Mn0.3Co0.2)O2 hardly changed, while the lattice spacing (002) of graphite reduces 0.00248 Å. In addition, some cracks were observed on the charged cathode at −20 °C. We carried out quasi-in situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) when the voltages of normal device discharged to 3.8, 3.6, 3.4, 3.2, and 3.0 V. Unlike the relationship of voltage–resistance at 25 °C, the values of the series resistance (Rs), charge transfer resistance (Rct), and ion transfer resistance (Rit) gradually decrease as the voltage decreases at −20 °C. Compared with the resistance of the symmetrical device based on the anode at 25 °C, the values of Rs and Rit at −20 °C both obviously increase. The main reason of performance degradation for normal device at −20 °C is large ion transfer resistance and the decrease of lattice spacing of the graphite (002).

Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine originated from Taoist thought in the pre-Qin period of China, especially the classic "Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic of Chinese medicine", while Chinese Taoism also originated from pre-Qin Taoist thought. The representative figure of pre-Qin Taoist thought is Lao Tzu, and his work "Tao Te Ching" is used as a reference Representative, as a Chinese religion pursuing cultivation to become a god, Chinese Taoism respects Lao Tzu as the supreme old monarch and regards him as the leader, and uses Lao Tzu's "Tao Te Ching" as a classic. Therefore, Traditional Chinese medicine and Taoism share the same origin. Taoism believes that in order to become immortal, diseases must be eliminated. Therefore, Taoism in turn uses Traditional Chinese medicine to form a unique Taoist medicine, which is recorded in the Taoist classic "Tao Zang". There are many prescriptions derived from Taoism and Traditional Chinese medicine.

Changing state–society relations in China have made it a challenge for the government to adopt unpopular policies that may incur blame and mass resistance. How can the Chinese regime adopt and implement unpopular policies when enforcement based on coercion is costly and undesirable? The article investigates property tax reform as a case to show how policy unpopularity and government strategies together resulted in a policy that failed to achieve any major policy goals. This study confirms China's governance transformation compromises efficiency with broader public values and shows the limitedness of incremental reforms. (J Contemp China/GIGA)
