The connotations of the interests of the PRC in the official scientific and political discourse during the period of the existence of the new Chinese state first transformed from class (jieji liyi, 1949–1978) to actually national (national-state – guojia liyi, 1979–2008), and then transition to "indigenous (core) national" (hexin guojia liyi, or simply "indigenous" – hexin liyi), and this emphasis became dominant after 2012. This process reflects substantive changes in the state's strategy. At the same time, the spatial and geographical range of his interests was expanding – from a predominant focus on domestic needs to regional and global ones. Since the 12th Chinese Communist Party Congress of 1982 declared that China would adopt foreign policy according to its national interests, the term "national interests" has been frequently used in Chinese official documents. The problems of national interests in the Chinese academic community were first raised in 1987 at the Shanghai Scientific Conference on the Theory of International Relations. In 1995, Yan Xuetong published China's first monograph on this subject, "Analysis of China's National Interests", on which he worked for two years (grant from the Chinese Academy of Contemporary International Relations) after returning from the United States, where he defended his doctoral dissertation. The publication of this book even sparked a "great debate" between young scholars and traditionalists about the normative requirements for writing papers. The article shows the dynamics of changes in the national interests of the PRC, their connotations and hierarchy both in academic discourse and in the practice of Chinese diplomacy (case of Russia and Ukraine).

Abstract
This paper provides novel evidence for links between historic farming practices and current norms of cooperative behaviour. We hypothesise that the cooperation required in wetland rice farming gives rise to strong cultural norms of cooperativeness. We compare participants from prefecture cities that predominately practice wetland rice cultivation to those from non-rice regions. A public goods game with and without punishment is the main measure for cooperative behaviour. Results indicate a strong and robust positive effect of wetland rice farming on cooperative behaviour and pro-social punishment. Complementary, consistent evidence from a natural field experiment and a survey further enriches our data.

PurposeWith a growing number of older workers in the labor force, cultivating an age-friendly working environment becomes increasingly important. Inspired by the job demands–resources (JD-R) model, this study aims to investigate whether the negative effects of perceived age discrimination (PAD) on work-related outcomes would be explained by job resources and demands.Design/methodology/approachA total of 333 Hong Kong Chinese employees aged 40 and above (M = 46.62, SD = 6.21; 60% female) completed an online survey that covered measures on workplace age discrimination, job resources and demands, work engagement, intention to stay and work strain.FindingsPAD at work was associated with reduced job resources and increased job demands. The results of the mediation analyses showed support from supervisor and coworkers could account for the effects of PAD on work engagement and intention to stay, whereas emotional demand or workload could explain the effects of PAD on work engagement and work strain.Practical implicationsThe findings of this research unveil the underlying mechanisms between age discrimination and work-related outcomes through job resources and job demands. Cultivating a supportive organizational climate toward older employees and offering awareness-based training programs are necessary to mitigate age biases in the workplace.Originality/valueBuilding on the JD-R model, this study revealed the possible mechanism underlying the negative effects of PAD. Perceptions of age discrimination decrease older workers' job resources and increase their job demands, subsequently lower their work engagement and intention to stay and increase their work strain.

The maximum fuel temperature under accident condition is the most important parameter of inherently safe characteristics of HTR-PM, and the DLOFC accident may lead to a peak accident fuel temperature. And there are a variety of uncertainty sources in the maximum fuel temperature calculations, and thus the contributions of these uncertainty sources to the final calculated maximum fuel temperature should be quantified to check whether the peak value exceed the technological limit of 1620°C or not. Eight uncertainty input parameters are selected for inclusion in this uncertainty study, and their associated 2 standard deviation uncertainties and probability density functions are specified. Then, the DLOFC thermal analyses and uncertainty analysis are performed with the home-developed ATHENA and CUSA. The numerical results indicate that the pebble-bed effective conductivity and the decay heat contribute the most of the uncertainty in the DLOFC maximum fuel temperature while this peak fuel temperature is most sensitive to the initial reactor power and the decay heat. In short, uncertainties in these selected eight parameters lead to the two standard deviation (2σ) uncertainty of ±77.6°C (or 5.2%) around the mean value of 1493°C for the maximum fuel temperature under DLOFC accident of HTR-PM. At the same time, the LHS-SVDC method of CUSA is recommended to propagate uncertainties in inputs and 100–200 model simulations seem to be sufficient to get an uncertainty prediction with full confidence.

Best-Estimation Plus Uncertainty (BEPU) analysis method can provide more information to improve the reliability of calculation results than the safety analysis with conservative assumption. And the statistical sampling-based uncertainty and sensitivity analysis methods are widely used in practical applications of the multiphysics, multiscale coupling nuclear reactor system. In this paper, a novel and efficient sampling method for inputs with normal and uniform distributions is introduced and a systematic theory for uncertainty and sensitivity analysis is established based on the classical statistical theory. Then the Code of Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis (CUSA) is updated based on these new strategies. For applications, the explicit and implicit effects for resonance and nonresonance isotopes are studied in depth, and a simple UO2 pin cell is considered to examine the performance of CUSA and the total uncertainty and sensitivity analysis abilities. The numerical results indicate that the implicit sensitivity analysis model and the uncertainty quantification functions developed in CUSA are correct and can be used for sensitivity and uncertainty analysis in nuclear reactor calculations. Even more important, the LHS-SVDC is recommended to propagate the uncertainties in multigroup cross sections.
