; We reflect here on the imaginaries built around the pioneering binomials - wild landscapes, which constitute one of the most used moral identification resources in communities. They are categories with which a community classifies certain actors whom it recognizes as moral, cultural, identity, social, economic or political entrepreneurs and around which imaginaries are built to maintain a certain representation of society. They are contrasted with images that complement them: empty spaces, wild territories, inhospitable regions, hostile geography; completing the discourse of the difficulties encountered, the efforts made. Once armed, that speech; turned into History, it will be presented, disseminated, rewritten, repeated, disclosed in newspaper articles, editorials, tributes, speeches, consumed and naturalized by the local community.

This chapter is based on Fonseca Braga's PhD research which looked into broadly applied design support programmes that aim at introducing design innovation into Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) with little or no design experience in Brazilian traditional industries. The need to better understand how elements at diverse levels support the conditions and influence the decision to use design (as along with its intensity of use) or to not use design, making empirical barriers and drivers to design innovation evident, represents the motivation behind this study. The research approach is inductive, exploratory and qualitative. Few barriers and drivers were new and distinguished from others in prior research focused only on the rationale used to address them by the interviewee or the lack of empirical evidence within design studies or regarding design support programmes. This analysis showed that barriers and drivers differ according to: (1) the context in which each project is embedded, including the economic and political priorities and orientation, as well as cultural aspects; (2) the way programmes and their projects are crafted, managed, implemented, and evaluated; (3) the background and mindset of key stakeholders who take part in these projects. The main contributions to the design policy field are: (1) an interpretative framework at three levels to identify barriers and drivers to design innovation, contributing to underpinning strategies in order to harness drivers and overcome barriers; and (2) a design support metamodel which aims at an experimental and participatory approach to tackling design support programmes' creation, and development.

In recent years the impact of globalisation on the welfare state has become a major issue in comparative policy studies. Some empirical studies demonstrate a negative relationship between globalisation and the welfare state, while others show adverse findings or a non‐significant relationship. The impact of globalisation, however, can be neither uniform nor unidirectional because of the differences in the political economies of individual welfare states. Welfare regimes reflect qualitative differences in arrangements of welfare institutions and the associated enduring configuration of the welfare nexus, suggesting that welfare regimes may influence the impact of globalisation on the welfare state. We scrutinise the relationship between globalisation and the welfare state by sampling 18 affluent countries from 1980 to 2001 and concentrating on the mediating effect of three welfare regime types. Our study provides a comprehensive examination of the relationship between globalisation and the welfare state using a state‐of‐the‐art analytical technique – the mixed‐effect model. Findings suggest that welfare regimes respond differently to the impact of globalisation and therefore mediate the relationship between globalisation and the welfare state. Globalisation negatively affects the welfare state in a social democratic regime, while it marginally affects the welfare state in liberal and conservative regimes.

English We empirically analyzed a representative workfare program in South Korea, the Self-Sufficiency Program (SSP), using multinomial logistic regression. Our findings demonstrated that family income sources, program participation length and health status are important factors affecting the self-sufficiency of program participants. Based on these results, we recommend improvements in the current SSP.
