International audience ; The European Union, the employers, the French political elites, have undertaken to transform the university into what Max Weber already saw emerging in 1917, "a company" in which the teacher-researchers become hired intellectual employees (or debauched) by a president and director. This operation is all the easier to carry out as successive and contradictory measures have disorganized the university. This company, whose goals are to "commodify" research and "professionalize" teaching, can only succeed by "managing" its operations as well as possible. Strengthening the power of the "Chairman and Director" is therefore essential if the company wants to attract the most reputable teacher-researchers, distribute the students as well as possible and capture the credits from the State, the Region and the private sector for its impose in very competitive markets. Under these conditions, the "training products" of such an enterprise should be well suited to the demands of the labor market and the "knowledge products" useful to capitalist firms for the conquest of consumers. In short, capitalism had to transform the last independent workers who were, until recently, the academics-free to choose their research and their teaching, electing their successors and their representatives, making decisions in assemblies. collegial-employees enlisted in its service. Cette entreprise, dont les buts sont de « marchandiser » la recherche et « professionnaliser » l'enseignement, ne peut réussir qu'en « manageant » au mieux son fonctionnement. the European Union, the employers, the French political elites, have started to transform the university into what Max Weber already saw in 1917, 'a company', in which research teachers become intellectual employees hired (or debarred) by a chief executive officer. This is all the easier to carry out as successive and contradictory measures have disorganised the university. This company, whose aims are to 'merge' research and 'professionalise' education, can only succeed if it is to operate as effectively as possible. Reinforcing the power of the 'chief executive' is therefore essential if the company is to attract the most renowned research teachers, distribute students as effectively as possible and obtain credit from the State, the Region and the private sector in order to compete on highly competitive markets. Under these conditions, the 'products and training' of such an undertaking should be well adapted to the requirements of the labour market and the 'products and knowledge' useful to capitalist firms for the conquest of consumers. In short, capitalism was supposed to transform the last self-employed workers, which were still, recently, the academics — free to choose their research and teaching, electing their successors and representatives, taking decisions in collegial assemblies — into employees enrolled in his service. ; The European Union, the employers, the French political elites, have undertaken to transform the university into what Max Weber already saw dawning in 1917, "a company", in which teacher-researchers become hired intellectual employees ( or debauched) by a president - director. ; If social mobility varies only very slowly, professional and geographical mobility seems to have increased during the 1950s-1970s. This article therefore aims to shed light on this transformation by questioning the genesis of the use of notion of mobility in political discourse and in the progressive development of administrative, study, training and placement bodies which, coordinated with each other, end up forming a system capable of regulating social practices. A notion more than a concept, mobility is not just verbiage but ends up forming a system that models the ways of thinking about time and space and the practices that are linked to them. In the 1950s and 1970s, the middle classes largely adhered to this view, while the working classes showed their resistance and even their opposition. On the other hand, the political elites, supported in this by French employers, have completely converted to the idea that mobility was modernity.

; The sociology of education today can no longer be satisfied with exploring the determinants of the correlation between the social situation of families and the educational success of children, so much so the transformations of State school policies, the parenting strategies developed to keep account of the changes, the tactics of companies to invest the school and transform schooling into a market, the tricks used by the management of schools to circumvent ministerial directives, the concessions obtained by private education have complicated the dynamics and the issues school. This article shows that the political action of the years 1950-2000 sought to modify the processes of social reproduction of educational inequalities by acting on the reproduction of positions, on the processes producing inequalities and, finally, on the differential appropriation of educational inequalities. material and symbolic goods.
