Throughout this internship, I, Abhi Pasupula, have worked with my internship mentor, Barry Federici, in order to help him start up a new service. This service is targeted specifically towards veterans and their paths in their lives after they retire from the military. The service is split up into two categories, those being Jobs and Veteran Benefits. Jobs entailed creating and implement a job board into our website for retired veterans to search for. Veteran benefits showcase a list of benefits that veterans are eligible for, divided up by Federal Benefits, State Benefits, Local Benefits, and a page for all available benefits. For the Job Board page on the website, we got into contact with a job board service known as Hiring Opps and spent many days working through the features and seeing which features would serve us the best for the website. In addition, we set up a Sandbox so that we could physically see the service in action. The benefits required more menial work, such as compiling the list of total benefits and categorizing them into states with links that lead to the state Veteran Benefits commission for more information. Once organized, the benefits were organized into 4 sections, each section having its own page on the website. Both of these websites were connected back to the original website, which served as a homepage for all the services. The homepage also had services to meet with my mentor, Mr. Federici. Working on both of these websites and services really opened my eyes to the professional world of Software Development, where there was so much more apart from just programming. Similar to this internship, the real world will require me to be able to voice my thoughts as well as put them down on paper and be able to explain them well to others, something that I believe this internship set me up for very well. ; https://digitalcommons.imsa.edu/intern_reports_2021/1004/thumbnail.jpg

This article is a review of the book titled, "GENDER AND THE PATH TO AWAKENING: Hidden Histories of Nuns in Modern Thai Buddhism" by Martin Seeger (2018). The review highlights the contribution of the study in uncovering the spiritual paths of the women Thai Buddhist practitioners. Seeger not only highlighted how the experiences of Thai women practitioners are often overshadowed by men. More importantly, he unravels the dynamic of their experiences in attaining Buddhist teachings and influencing other Buddhists during their lifetimes. The study that employed biography, hagiography, memories and oral accounts is innovative, especially in the situation which the data about the Thai women practitioners are scant.

In a new and updated edition, Writing Histories: Imagination and Narration is a book for anyone wanting to write histories that capture the imagination and challenge the intellect. It aims to show that historical narrative and imagination can work together to produce works of history that are a pleasure to read. Nine historians reflect on their work as writers, exploring some of the most difficult and interesting questions any history-writer faces: how to get started, how to find a 'voice', how to enliven a description or a narration, and how to find a worthwhile structure. Contributors also suggest how historians can convey multiple perspectives, 'show' rather than tell, foreground the research process, find inspiration from music, painting and landscape, and use literary techniques such as metaphor. The book will be a useful text for teachers and students in history-writing classes and informal groups. There are suggestions for group exercises, and advice on how to conduct writing workshops. Many historians, however, both students and established writers, will continue to write in relative isolation. This book is also intended for them. This updated edition of Writing Histories has a new introduction written by Ann Curthoys, and an updated bibliography.

This creation/thesis revolves around a medium-length film – I Can Swim Home (I Can Swim Home), questioning the renewal of forms and the artist's practice in a context of global crisis (environmental crises, health crisis, economical, political and institutional crisis.) What leads may art provide toward envisioning a communal horizon? How may art, through research and experimentation, contribute to invent tools and practical alternatives allowing us to renew our modes of exchanging, sharing, attention, and imagining? This research doesnot aim to make an inventory of forms throughout art history, but to underline what, in the patterns encountered therein, might reveal the artist's desire to invoke the collective, and to invoke commonality as the nature of the work itself. I C S H aims to go back to one of art's primary truth: the "inauguration" of an open community, relying upon both the ecological concern of the artist and their adhesion to an ethics of care. The work of the artist will therefore oscillate between the negative pole of the crisis of production/reproduction in the era of the Anthropocene, and the positive pole of a quest for an identity through the plurality of their environmental and social inscriptions. In line with this theoretical stance, through the multiplicity of practices it implements, I C S H constitutes an experiment in investigating "reconnection" (between the artist and the art world, between art and the living), situated in two Mediterranean sites, the Villa Arson and the Lerins Islands.I Can Swim Home is a multiform comprehensive work including a fictional film, a number of collective moments of intensification of the aesthetical experience, a research notebook documenting the artist's intuitions and questioning, and a critical analysis of the artist's practice, inviting entities and individuals to partake into the aesthetic invention. ; Cette thèse de création dont le maître objet est un moyen métrage – I Can Swim Home (I C S H) – s'inscrit dans le contexte du renouvellement des ...

Assessing service quality requires information about outcomes and processes. This article focuses on the connection between process and the likelihood of achieving desired outcomes in areas where achieving desired outcomes depends upon the the efforts of service users as well as service providers and government. Where outcomes are co-produced, service providers need to understand what their clients value be prepared to trust their clients' expertise in their own lives. Governments need to remove performance management or funding mechanisms that constrain agency capacity to to assist service users achieve desired outcomes.

The monumental state-commissioned Execution of Torrijos and his Companionson the Beach at Málaga by Antonio Gisbert Pérez has only recently begun to receive earnest scholarly attention in Spanish-language literature after decades of relative obscurity, with no known lengthy discussion in English. Yet, it is a major Spanish history painting, commissioned as a monument to Spanish nation building in the wake of despotic monarchism. It is remarkable for its innovative composition and sensitive portrayal of liberal General José María Torrijos and his men, executed without trial on a Málaga beach in December 1831 for rallying against the absolutist monarch Ferdinand VII. In addition to Torrijos, among the dead were liberal politician Manuel Flores Calderón and the Byronic, Northern Irish-born Robert Boyd, active in the final years (1830–1831) of the Greek War of Independence and who was inspired by Torrijos' cause. Introducing new material that builds on existing research, this essay offers a detailed analysis of the painting's content and composition within its historical context. It carefully explores its production as a pivotal example of the Spanish visual culture of war and as a sensitively crafted memorial both to the men portrayed and the struggles of Spanish liberalism during the nineteenth century, a context that links it closely to Goya's Third of May 1808, against which it is often compared, but which is at odds with the remarkably original composition of Gisbert's work.

The study of the Chinese diaspora's experience in South Africa helps to focus on a specific dimension of diasporic studies, contributing to the field as a whole and increasing the academic reach of diaspora research. This topic elucidates the state's manipulation of race for political means, investigates the machinations of systemic white supremacy, and uses Freud's narcissism of minor differences as a lens to explore the effect of such racist policies upon a diaspora's lived experience.
