"In what ways do working-class middle-aged people who have learned to lead their lives through the lens of a traditional institutionalized life course deal with unexpected job loss? What are the differences between shipbuilding workers and supermarket employees regarding their working-class identities? Is there a quantitative way of tapping class stratification among second generation emigrants? How do respectable working-class people experience their transition to homelessness? Finally, in what ways do working-class adolescents deal with their transition to adulthood? These are some of the questions this volume tries to answer by examining how working-class identities are constructed within various temporal and spatial contexts. The research material has been collected by means of both quantitative and qualitative research designs implemented in various locations of Greek society in the last 10 years. Given that Greece is the par excellence country of which the inhabitants went through the hardships of 2010 financial crisis, the authors of the volume are trying to explore the impact this crisis has upon the life-chances of working-class people. In particular, through various methodological approaches (ethnographic interviews, life stories, surveys, biographical interviews, participant observation), authors provide provocative insights on the narrative, emotional and temporal determinants of working-class identity formation in the age of capitalist crises. In addition, this research aims to go beyond the theoretical state of the art in exploring class identities, class action and class formation (Bourdieu, Beck, Giddens, Foucault, E. P. Thomson, S. Hall) by adopting fresh and challenging theorizations that built upon the concept of time and emotions. Thus, the conceptual elaboration of the data rests upon up-to-date approaches on social time and on emotions that underline that fact that emotions are embedded in social relations which have temporal nature. One of the main working hypotheses of the book is that one can identify the generative mechanisms of working-class identities within the multitude of the emotions that are triggered as a consequence of "felt injustice". Furthermore, one can understand the tendencies of the society to remain stable or to be transformed during uncertainty periods by examining the temporal peculiarities of specific emotions (resentment, anger, resignation, bereavement, hope)"--

Biographical documentation of a search for traces of German emigration after 1933 During the National Socialist era, thousands of emigrants were deprived of their German citizenship. This is the first time that this state injustice has been documented for a group of people. Sources and research on the history of the legal profession in the "Third Reich", the genesis of the expatriation law of 14 July 1933 and the practice of bureaucratic persecution are dealt with in an introductory section. In addition, the consequential punishment of academic expatriation is demonstrated for the universities with law faculties. Affected by the punitive expatriation were hundreds of lawyers, among them half a dozen female lawyers. 610 short biographies recall both luminaries and unknown representatives of the profession. The lawyers who were declared "deprived of German citizenship" were, with few exceptions, Jews, stigmatised and persecuted as Jewish lawyers. Only a few of the lawyers expelled from their profession and homeland returned from exile. Among them were the lawyers Fritz Löwenthal, Rudolf Katz and Friedrich Wilhelm Wagner, who were expatriated after 1933. Appointed to the Parliamentary Council, they voted for the adoption of the Basic Law on 8 May 1949. While Löwenthal retired from politics, Katz served as Minister of Justice in Kiel until 1950. In 1951, he was elected by the Bundesrat as a judge of the newly founded Federal Constitutional Court. Wagner had been a member of the German Bundestag since 1949. In 1961, he moved from Bonn to Karlsruhe, and succeeded Katz as a judge of the Second Senate and Vice-President of the constitutional body.

"This book explores the significant contributions of African American women radical activists from 1955 to 1995. It examines the 1961 case of African American working-class self-defense advocate Mae Mallory, who traveled from New York to Monroe, North Carolina, to provide support and weapons to the Negroes with Guns Movement. Accused of kidnapping a Ku Klux Klan couple, she spent thirteen months in a Cleveland jail, facing extradition. African American women radical activists Ethel Azalea Johnson of Negroes with Guns, Audrey Proctor Seniors of the banned New Orleans NAACP, the Trotskyist Workers World Party, Ruthie Stone, and Clarence Henry Seniors of Workers World founded the Monroe Defense Committee to support Mallory. Mae's daughter, Pat, aged sixteen also participated, and they all bonded as family. When the case ended, they joined the Tanzanian, Grenadian, and Nicaraguan World Revolutions. Using her unique vantage point as Audrey Proctor Seniors's daughter, Paula Marie Seniors blends personal accounts with theoretical frameworks of organic intellectual, community feminism, and several other theoretical frameworks in analyzing African American radical women's activism in this era. Today women are lifting weights to build muscle, wrapping their bodies in seaweed to reduce unwanted water retention, attending weigh-ins at diet centers, and devoting themselves to many other types of "body work." Filled with the voices of real women, this book unravels the complicated emotional and intellectual motivations that drive them as they confront American culture's unreachable beauty ideals. This powerful feminist study lucidly and compellingly argues against the idea that the popularity of body work means that women are enslaved to a male-fashioned "beauty myth."
