More than just an economic instrument, currency has come to embody sovereignty & national identity. It offers an important window into the history & culture of peoples, empires, & nations. But money is constantly evolving. During the past several thousand years, coins replaced barter, then checks & paper money replaced coins, & now electronic commerce is supplanting paper transactions.
