Civilizational paradigm of sustainable development ;
Problem setting. To define the essence of the sustainable development concept is essential to analyze the problems of modern development civilizations from the standpoint of civilization theory. That problems arise on the way to transition for the principles of sustainable development both in scientifically theoretical and in practical terms.Highlighting previously unsettled parts of the general problem. Nowadays, there is no analysis of the essence of sustainable development from the standpoint of civilization theory, despite a large number of publications on this theme from other perspectives. In the primary documents of sustainable development concept and discussions about its essence, little attention is around the analysis of the regularity role of historical civilization development, which gives rise to the need for the transition to sustainable development. We consider the defining feature of the civilizational paradigm of sustainable development is the concept of civilizational development and modern humanity is as a global civilization.Paper main body. There are researches on the significance of the UN Conference on Environment and Development, held in June 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, in the formation of a new paradigm of world socio-economic development in the XXI century, aimed at solving global problems of social development in social, industrial and environmental areas. There is a well-grounded necessity of a radical change in the value factors of social progress. There is a need for the abandonment of the economic developmental model, which has been used by rich countries. Some rich countries have already stopped using it. Because in the future, this system may lead to the collapse of civilization. The necessity of changing approaches to the interaction of man and nature is a proven need. The preservation and restoration of natural systems and the use of natural resources within the biospheres economic capacity should become an essential task of socio-economic development. The necessity of developing a modern research methodology for the functioning of complex socio-economic systems that naturally combines modern scientific approaches, scientific object, and civilization paradigms is essential. Without that, it is impossible to offer an effective solution to current problems of recent socio-economic development. The UN activity was analyzed as a worldwide moderator of transition processes of the global economy to the principles of sustainable development, as reflected in the Declaration on the Right to Development and the Declaration on Social Progress which were approved by the UN General Assembly. The necessity of applying a civilizational approach to the formation of a strategy of sustainable development is substantiated. The concept of sustainable development fits perfectly into the idea of challenge-response, proposed by A. J. Toynbee. A proposition is into uniting all interpretations of sustainable development by the definition of the concept of civilizational development, given by A. Toynbee: development occurs when the response to a challenge is successful and causes a further challenge. The use of a civilizational approach in the analysis of the transition processes to sustainable development principles allows the following:– go beyond the limits of divide social communities and explore the dynamics of socio-economic development of planetary society within the time space "past – present – future";– determine the general factors of the historical development of society and their features in modern conditions in the transition to the principles of sustainable development;– explore sustainable development problems from the standpoint of systematic interaction of society and nature both in space and time. Conclusions of the research and prospects for further studies. Society is a very complex system. It can hold many bifurcations, that give new, unpredictable directions of socio-economic development. The process of development in such systems is a historical evolution, from time to time, interrupted by crisis stages with the emergence of qualitatively new states with higher complexity and organization than at the previous fixed stage.
