Purpose
– The purpose of this paper is to suggest that it should be possible to devise mechanisms which will enable communities to address the changing assistance needs of disabled and older residents whilst giving younger resident assistants an equity stake in the housing market. The existence of such mechanisms on a national scale would facilitate mobility between otherwise independent communities and maximise the choices available to residents requiring different forms of assistance at different stages in their lives.


Design/methodology/approach
– The paper draws upon the author's personal experience of exchanging accommodation with a team of assistants. The author considers how this model could be made more sustainable and replicable. Action research is needed to explore similar models within the context of intentional communities.


Findings
– Two pressing social challenges could have a unified solution. Cohousing provides potential for people to remain within an intergenerational community as they grow older and develop assistance needs, while providing accommodation equity. Today's "baby boomer" generation may contribute to less advantaged future generations by leaving behind them dedicated housing for assistants in order to make sure that such provision is present within communities in perpetuity.


Originality/value
– As a disabled person, the author had found it interesting to actively explore with younger people the impact upon both generations of issues around housing equity. The author has already, and would like to test further, the potential of nonmonetary exchange within intentional communities.

Co-housing has re-emerged in affluent cities as a model of dwelling that aims to reduce ecological impact and increase social welfare. Although it is the subject of growing academic interest, there are significant gaps in knowledge and a tendency toward wishful thinking about its promise that is not supported by evidence. We examine co-housing from a feminist political ecology perspective with the aim of contributing to an improved research agenda, not just on co-housing but commoning more widely. Drawing on qualitative fieldwork conducted at co-housing projects in the Netherlands and the UK, we cast new light on how to assess the impact of sharing practices at the level of the collectivized household. Our findings support the claim that commons thinking is not really commons if it takes the work of social reproduction (caring labour) for granted or overlooks differences between people along the lines of gender, class, race/ethnicity, age and ability. We argue that greater attention to difference entails a new set of questions and criteria, and that these are necessary for assessing the extent to which co-housing projects enable the 'inclusive commoning' that their proponents rather wishfully envisage.

Después de analizar a la persona mayor desde una perspectiva 2.0, este estudio ha propuesto las viviendas colaborativas o co-housing, como modo de vida alternativo a las clásicas residencias de personas mayores apostando por este modo de convivencia, entre otros motivos, porque promueve una mayor calidad de vida; un concepto multidimensional que depende de la interacción de los factores personales y el entorno. Todas las personas coinciden en ello y se mide con diversos indicadores, entre ellos, el bienestar emocional. En este trabajo se profundiza en el análisis de esta dimensión. Se constata que la confianza en las propias habilidades, la estabilidad y el estado emocional son determinantes clave en la valoración global de la calidad de vida. De este modo, se establece una comparación entre dos modelos residenciales de personas mayores: los centros clásicos en los que se aplica un sistema asistencial, y los co-housing, estandartes de un modelo en el que se establecen unas relaciones simétricas y ausentes de jerarquías, en las que los usuarios son, además, los gestores activos de su modo de convivencia.

Abstract
The paper impacts the current debate on governance system in Poland upon Europeanisation in terms of co-creation of public services at urban and regional level. In this context, it can be a part of a discussion on challenges related to cities' and regions' transition from industrial economy, society, city and government, to creative and knowledge-based ones. Due to its dynamic and vibrant character, the item can be also implemented into the debate on social and economic strengths in order to solving urgent problems in cities and city-regions linking to innovation in governance. Its clue is the concept of co-creation, which occupies an important space in the current study of European integration. However, the starting point for the considerations contained in the paper is the observation, that while it is commonly accepted that the co-creation of services with citizens and other non-governmental actors seems to be the most effective action to answer to the need for new social innovations and the growing demand for personalised services, the research agenda linked to this has investigated this aspect regarding Eastern and Central Europe not in an enough extensive way. In this regards, the paper can contribute to the field.
The aim of the paper is to present the results of the general review of key sources concerning existing knowledge in the field of co-creation in Poland, both in domestic science and institutional practice. In the paper author confronted the EU concepts of co-creation of public services, whereby the basis of this approach was the participation of stakeholders in the decision-making processes as a crucial element of co-governance. In the paper a local case study will be discussed on the basis of social housing policy in Wrocław, the 4th biggest city in Poland.
The proposed paper is a part of the international research performed upon the project "Co-Creation of Public Innovation in Europe" (acronym "CoSIE") financed upon Horizon 2020.

AbstractThis article critically examines the governing of 'sustainable urban development' through self‐build cohousing groups in Gothenburg and Hamburg. The two case cities have been selected because both are currently involved in major urban restructuring, and have launched programmes to support self‐build groups and cohousing as part of their emphasis on promoting urban sustainable development through this process. Departing from a theoretical discussion on advanced liberal urban governance, focusing in particular on the contemporary discourse on sustainable urban development, we examine the interaction between political institutions, civil society and private actors in the construction of cohousing as a perceived novel and alternative form of housing that may contribute to fulfilling certain sustainability goals. Questions centre on the socio‐political contextualization of cohousing; concepts of sustainability; strategies of, and relations between, different actors in promoting cohousing; gentrification and segregation; and inclusion and exclusion. In conclusion we argue that, while self‐build groups can provide pockets of cohousing as an alternative to dominant forms of housing, the economic and political logics of advanced liberal urban development make even such a modest target difficult, particularly when it comes to making such housing affordable.

In regard to the multiplication of cohousing projects in France by the early 2000s, this thesis offers an empirical examination of the co-habitation project as a political gesture. The thesis focuses on two different collectives of residents, one with a cooperative of inhabitant's project in the urban area and the other with a host community's project in the countryside. Following the implementation of these two projects, the thesis questions their common ambition to transform ways of lives from a voluntary and localized participation. Far enough from promoting a large reforming project and a deep transformation of the State, those experiences try to build replicable solutions of living from the collective's scale, composing with their local environment and try to articulate multifaceted and large scale's issues. From a pragmatist inspiration and a monographic methodology, the thesis proposes to articulate the negotiation of these projects at the collective's scale and the opening doors of possible futures at the scale of the society introducing the notion of the making with. The making with refers to a mode of operation claimed by the actors to build a solution confronting to the difficulties related to the implementation of those projects but also, the instauration process of a non-violent relation with the world to include people who want to participate and to consider the local environment and entities in place. At the same time, the collectives are facing various problems. From the act of inhabiting they explore solutions to solve various issues and try to rethink the habitability of Earth and the conditions of a common future. From this perspective, the thesis considers the cohabitation project as a political theory in acts which is deployed and materialized in a place and daily practices, and nourishes particular forms of life: one form of life deploying by a third path model and another by the "compagnonnage model". ; Au regard de la recrudescence des projets d'habitat partagé depuis les années 2000 en ...

Pour ce faire, elle s'intéresse à deux collectifs d'habitants différents, l'un en milieu urbain qui porte un projet de coopérative d'habitants et l'autre en milieu rural qui porte un projet de communauté d'accueil, et elle suit empiriquement la mise en place de ces projets pour interroger leur ambition commune de transformer les modes de vie depuis une participation volontaire et ancrée dans les milieux de vie. Loin de s'en remettre à un grand projet transformateur qui viserait une réforme en profondeur de l'Etat, ces initiatives cherchent à forger des solutions de vie réplicables à l'échelle des collectifs, en composant avec les contraintes de leur milieu d'implantation et en articulant des enjeux variés et de grande envergure. D'inspiration pragmatiste et procédant par monographies, la thèse propose d'articuler la négociation collective des projets d'habitat à l'échelle des groupes et l'ouverture d'un possible à l'échelle de la société en introduisant la notion de faire-avec. Le faire-avec désigne aussi bien un mode opératoire des acteurs pour composer avec les contraintes qui rythment la négociation de leur projet que l'instauration d'un rapport non-violent au monde qui vise à composer avec les personnes qui se présentent à eux, les milieux et les entités qui le peuplent. En même temps que les collectifs font avec les problèmes, ils explorent des solutions depuis l'acte d'habiter pour s'attacher à résoudre une hétérogénéité d'enjeux, repenser l'habitabilité du monde et le devenir commun. Dans cette optique, la thèse propose d'appréhender le projet d'habiter ensemble au travers d'une théorie politique en actes qui se matérialise dans un lieu et un ensemble de pratiques quotidiennes nourrissant des formes de vie singulières : une forme de vie qui se déploie selon le modèle de la troisième voie dans l'habitat, et l'autre selon le modèle du compagnonnage.
