The relationship between human beings and the cosmos has developed in divergent mythological, poetic, religious, philosophical, scientific, political-juridical, and ecological ways over time. Throughout history the cosmos has been subjected to a scientific perspective as well as to the poetic gaze, both of which contemplate the mysteries of the night, the comets, the king-sun, the moon, and infinity. Several other concepts, such as cosmology, cosmopolitanism, cosmopolitics, cosmopolitan citizenship, cosmopolitan law, and cosmic consciousness are derived from the idea of the cosmos. Cosmopolitanism relates to the ethical ideal of belonging, as a citizen of the world, to a universal community, beyond any links to particular communities. Cosmopolitics corresponds to a dual concern with affording local politics a cosmopolitan dimension and ensuring that global politics has a democratic dimension. This book intends to discuss the various perspectives on the cosmos, cosmopolitanism, cosmopolitics and other related concepts.
; According to "traditional" Amerindian cosmological thought, "territory" is not just a provider of natural resources but also constitutes a space for political and medical-religious practices. Confronted with natural catastrophes like the Páez-River-Mudslide of June 1994 and the population growth with its resulting pressure on the already strained environment, the Nasa of the Tierradentro region had to "create" new strategies for their "resource crisis management". For the Nasa their rituals of traditional medicine offer a control-mechanism for the ecological crisis, the cosmic disorder and the accumulation of "socio-cosmic filth" (pta'z). "The ice of the dead" caused by the ongoing violent Columbian civil war forms a considerable part of this pta'z, which threatens to "burn" their territory. Thus, this "ill" and "hot" social cosmos has to be "cleaned" and "cooled down" periodically by means of "cool medicine". The foregoing illustrates the Nasa's concept of interpretation and agency aiming at cultivating a "cool territory" (kwe'sx kiwe fxizenxi), a territory in the state of harmony and equilibrium. To achieve a "cool territory" the Nasa perform multiple rituals: e.g. "cooling water", "sowing" (reviving) water and even shamanistic expulsion of violence. With this "body-centered philosophy of practice" the Nasa try to create moments of joy, the health of their social cosmos. These discursive and non-discursive practices "sow power" by constructing, reconstructing and reinventing the Nasa's "spiritual" and cultural assets. Thus the Nasa project a neotraditionalist ecosophical ethics.

; Although there is not a single nuclear power plant for the generation of energy by nuclear fission on Austrian territory, this does not mean that Austrian radiation protection law is not necessary. Because of the risks and dangers involved in the use of radioactive material and the use of the emitted ionizing radiation in businesses, medicine, technology, for research purposes, industry and agriculture, radiation protection standards and safety regulations must be issued to protect the life and health of the population as well as the surrounding environment from impairments. The foundation for the national law consists of international treaties and the supranational law of the European Communities. The Austrian constitutional foundation for the issuance of radiation protection specifications is provided by the federal jurisdiction for public health service, whereby the environmental protection law, which is distributed as a cross-section matter in the legal system, also has its connecting points in radiation protection law. The central Austrian legal acts constitute a subdomain of the special administrative law and deal with general and medical radiation protection, terrestrial and cosmic radiation, radioactive waste management, control of radioactive substances and the provision of measures for the event of a radiological emergency situation. This diploma thesis is intended to provide a detailed insight into the subject matter.

Diese Erfahrungen machten ihm bewusst, in welchen Verhaftungen "the cultural consciousness of the white man" (Jung, 1989, S. 247) war. ; This article focuses on a multidisciplinary dialogue between C. G. Jung's Theory of the Psychological Types and the Medicine Wheel of the Power of the Individual Self for the Plains Indians.Meeting with the indigenous tribes impacts C.G. Jung´s concepts. In "Memories, Dreams, Reflexions" (Jung, 1989) he describes his meeting with the Native Americans. These experiences brought to his mind the influence of "[.] the cultural consciousness of the white man" (ibid., p.247). The cosmopolitan philosophy of life and the religious traditions of the Natives find their expression in the Medicine Wheel. The circle is a symbol and a tool for sun dances, vision quests, astronomical observatory, a guide in life, a guidance for healing - finally it opens the gateway to cosmic spiritual power, both for the community and the individual. It is the measurement for the individual´s way of life, the basis of decision-making for self-discovery. In his theoretical concepts, Jung also used the circle symbol in the mandala form. He took the mandala not just for a road to the unconscious, but also for a symbol of his theory of typology.Comparing C. G. Jung's "Theory of Psychological Types" and the "Medicine Wheel of the Power of the Individual Self" indicates a link between Jung´s typology and the holistic approach of the Self of the Native Americans and the western psychology, psychoanalysis and psychotherapeutic disciplines.

; This study is a generic interpretation of the tragedy «Hercules furens» by L. Annaeus Seneca. It is based on the question: which effect has the text when performed on an ancient Roman stage? The study consists of five chapters: (1) Einleitung (= introduction): Survey of modern research and justification of the methodical approach. (2) Handlung (= plot): Examination of thoughts, motives and identity of chorus. Results inter alia: Hercules is persecuted by Juno only because of being Jupiter's son and does not threaten the cosmic order as it is claimed in the prologue; two choruses are needed. (3) Bühnengeschehen (= stage action): Examination of the required stage action in regard to practicability and repercussions on the understanding of the text. Results inter alia: it is not only possible, but necessary to perform the «Hercules furens» on stage in order to facilitate an appropriate understanding of the text. The ritual of purification at the beginning of act 4, the return of Hercules' weapons and the suicide threatened by Amphitryon in act 5 are misleading for a mere reader or listener, because what really happens will be told only in later passages of the text. Taken as postponed stage directions these passages however determine visible action which informs a spectator about the real events in time. (4) Personen (= characters): Studies of the characters and choruses based on former observations. (5) Deutung (= interpretation): Attempt to interprete the drama as an unity. Result: Hercules is predestined to be a ruler, but he misses his destination because of a wrong attitude towards punitive action. Each ruler ought to punish with greatest possible restraint and inner aversion (verses 739-747), but Hercules first enjoys it (act 3) and later (act 5) he is to severe on himself when planning suicide as atonement for the murder of his family, although only Juno is to be blamed for the atrocity. This criticism of Hercules has a political connotation and corresponds to Seneca's «De clementia».

Insofern wird Leslie Locketts psychologisch-motivierte These vom "Mediävistenvorurteil" ( medievalist bias , 2011) hinterfragt. ; Pride and Humility in Anglo-Saxon Theology. Studies on the Old English Interpretation of Gregory the Great, Orosius, Boethius and Augustine in the Early Middle Ages In this dissertation it is argued that the analysed Old English sources are by no means literal "translations" of their Latin equivalents, but "theological interpretations", that a developed "Anglo-Saxon theology" can be discerned from the texts, which theologically paved the way for the 10th century English Benedictine Reform, and that mainly (Benedictine) theologians were responsible for the composition of the Old English versions, not Alfred the Great, King of Wessex (871-899), personally. This dissertation on Early Medieval Ecclesiastical History aims to acquaint scholars who otherwise do not read Old English (OE) with the so-called Alfredian texts. The intention is to add a theological perspective to the debates about authorship opting for close cooperation between English Medieval Studies and Theology. The dissertation is based on a comparison of Gregory's Dialogi and Regula Pastoralis , Orosius's Historiarum adversum paganos libri septem , Boethius's De consolatione philosophiae , and Augustine's Soliloquia with their OE interpretations. Outside English Medieval Studies, the OE versions of the patristic texts are either totally neglected or still treated as literal translations which have no special Tendenz . Scholars in English Medieval Studies, however, have claimed that the OE versions are highly interpretative texts. The number of scholars who question Alfred's authorship (not just partly but also generally) is increasing. This study confirms this from a theological perspective arguing that from the OE versions a developed "Anglo-Saxon theology" can be discerned. It is suggested here that the distinctive style of theology in the Anglo-Saxon church owes much to Benedictine ideals of humility ( imitatio Christi ) and sees life as a cosmic struggle between God and the devil, the source of all pride (Augustine: humilitas Christi medicina superbiae nostrae ). The project evaluates the Anglo-Saxon church and state through a study of the themes of pride and humility (Latin superbia and humilitas , OE ofermod and eaðmod ). The numerous textual interdependencies on philosophical-theological topics are immensely complex. Therefore, the idea of Alfred the Great as rex litteratus is clearly undermined from the point of view of Ecclesiastical History and the History of Theology. The author of this dissertation sees a historical connection between the OE sources and the succession crisis following the death of Charles the Fat. The texts reveal a critical view of contemporary rulers as well as the struggle for a realignment of royal virtue and mirror the political uncertainty concerning the future of the Carolingian Empire. By illustrating how Gregorian theology depends on Augustine and how this influenced the Anglo-Saxon doctrine of the soul the dissertation also seeks to challenge Leslie Lockett's psychologically-motivated hypothesis of 'the medievalist bias' (2011).
