Cultural influences on managerial industrial relations policies: A note on Hausa and Ibo workplaces in Nigeria
In: Labour and society: a quarterly journal of the International Institute for Labour Studies, Band 8, Heft 2, S. 151-162
ISSN: 0378-5408
The Hausa traditionally regards his subordinates as his followers, whereas the Ibo sees his subordinates as his partners. The cultural attitudes are reflected in their traditional systems of political administration which largely influence the systems of workplace administration in the two societies with regard to managerial policies on industrial relations issues. The paternalistic policies of the Hausa managements and the collaborative policies of the Ibo ones, are therefore largely rooted in the respective cultural characteristics and customary administrative practices of the two societies.
