There is considerable geographical overlap between areas set aside for nature conservation or protection and Indigenous peoples' lands, and the social, economic, and political consequences of protected areas have often been extensive for Indigenous peoples. Discourses of conservation converge with discourses of Indigenous peoples, and both carry a legacy of colonial constructs and relationships. With these overlaps as a point of departure, the purpose of this thesis is to explore how the discourses that govern nature conservation and protected areas shape the conditions for Indigenous peoples' influence and participation in the governance and management of protected areas on their lands. I pursue this aim by analyzing, and critically examining the consequences of, the construction of Indigenous subject positions and conditions for agency in discourses of nature conservation and protected areas. The empirical focus of the thesis lies with international discourses of protected areas and Indigenous peoples and on local and national discourses articulated in relation to two cases of protected areas in Sápmi. My analytical framework builds on postcolonial theory and discourse theory. I use space for agency as a concept to describe and analyze the effects of the discursive positionings and constructions that shape the ability or capacity of individuals or group to act or to be perceived as legitimate actors. My results show twomain articulations of Indigenous subject positions in protected area discourses, which enable and restrain the space for Indigenous agency in different ways. One articulation connects Indigenous peoples to conservation through the concept of traditional knowledge, thereby positioning Indigenous subjects mainly as holders of traditional knowledge and justifying Indigenous influence by its potential contribution to conservation objectives. The other articulation focuses on the rights pertaining to Indigenous peoples as peoples, including land rights and the right to selfdetermination. These articulations are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but they have potentially different consequences and indicate discursive tensions that can affect the space for Indigenous agency in relation to protected areas. Moreover, my results demonstrate the hegemony of discourses that takes conservation through area protection for granted and subordinates Indigenous land use to conservation objectives, structure Indigenous agency as "participation" in specific types of arrangement, and articulate Indigenous rights in relation to hegemonic constructions of sovereignty, self-determination, and rights. These hegemonic formations silence articulations that would challenge the authority of colonizing societies over Indigenous territories, suppress radical critique of the fundamental nature of arrangements for protected area governance and management, and subdue alternatives to discourses of contemporary liberal democracy and individual property rights.
; The threat that Central Europe faces nowadays is connected with two sets of causes. The first cause is Russian politics that attempts to establish a new position on a global level. And the second is the crisis within the Union, which has mainly affected Central European countries, their youngest members that still bear the post-communist burden. The paper focuses on geostrategic, ideological and cultural aspects regarding the abovementioned complex threat.
; The article discusses the role of subculture in Croatia and wider South Slavic context during and after the transitional period from the hegemony of Yugoslav communist system to the national state and its new narratives. The introduction discusses the modalities of memory loss in regard to the Yugoslav system of values. It focuses on the situation in popular culture and the new media, arguing that the process of memory loss has been orchestrated by the new national hegemony in both the media and politics and in the subcultural environment of marginal groups. The emphasis is put on the discursive tactics that have contributed to this process in the public sphere. The second part of the article concentrates on the relationship between the private and the public spheres and pays special attention to the relation between spontaneous subcultural practices and orchestrated mass-cultural outlets that very often construct the sphere of popular cultural needs. It is argued that the modalities of re-constructing and re-directing the narrative as an ethical (ethnic and political) issue remain an important topic not only for a better understanding of popular culture's hegemonic order but also for the modalities of survival of the narrative as a literary autonomous field.
; The article topic is regional cooperation in light of its special importance for the rights of dispersed ethnic minorities living in different countries. In this context the situation of Roma stands out as a specific issue in the context of modern European minority protection. International documents for the first time in history provide institutional support for the preservation of ethnic identity of the Roma in Europe. The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages expands its protection also to the protection of non-territorial languages, including the Roma language. In the second half of the last century, in the geographical area of the Western Balkans some initiatives for the preservation and development of the Romani language and identity started. Following these initiatives, representatives of Roma from the former Yugoslavia started a project for standardization of the Roma language. Practice has shown that this process significantly influenced the situation and the use of the Romani language in Slovenia.
Recent estimates put the global number of mobile phone subscriptions close to the number of humans currently alive on Earth; at the same time, the global number of both domestic and international migrants is approaching the one billion mark. This article addresses the linkages between these two processes: Although migrants and mobile populations always had ties to their places of origin, the recent boom in access to affordable communication - specifically in the form of mobile phones - has fundamentally changed the way in which millions of migrants "live" translocality. These changes are traced in this article in the translocal social constellations of ruralto-urban migrants in Bangladesh. Translocality is conceptualized through a theoretical framework of strong structuration theory, with the key elements herein being networks, places, and resources. Using the two examples of remittances and the chatroom, it is shown how changing communication practices are now shaping and rearranging the country's translocal structures. These structural changes encompass social and spatial reconfigurations of translocal networks, shifts in resource endowment, and shifts of norms and expectations regarding social and economic interactions and transactions. Svrha ovog istraživanja jest primijeniti Hofstedeov upitnik nacionalne kulture u Hrvatskoj i istražiti regionalne razlike u stavovima hrvatskih građana o dimenzijama nacionalne kulture: distanca moći, individualizam, maskulinitet, izbjegavanje nesigurnosti i dugoročna orijentacija. ; The purpose of this paper is to apply Hofstede's value survey in Croatia and examine regional differences in the cultural dimensions of power distance, individualism, masculinity, uncertainty avoidance and long-term orientation. Based on the large national survey data (N = 1,500), the scores for five dimensions were analysed at the national and sub- -national regional levels. This study contributes to Hofstede's theory of culture by using the general population sample and examining regional differences. The results show that Croatia scores lower on power distance, is a moderately high individualistic country, has a tendency towards "feminine" culture and has a lower level of long-term orientation, which are all characteristics of developed countries. However, the value of uncertainty avoidance is high, which is a characteristic of post-transition economies. The analysis at regional level in Croatia reveals that Croatia is homogeneous with respect to Hofstede's dimensions of national culture. The cluster analysis was performed using dimensions of national culture for Croatia. Among the identified clusters differences exist in gender and age, while there are no significant differences related to the level of education. Implications for managers and policy makers are discussed in the paper.

Commemoration depends on current views of the past. The conference "Europäische Erinnerungskulturen - European Commemoration 2014" gave an overview of the initiatives, narratives and commemorations taking place across Europe. This expert conference provided an opportunity to analyse common perceptions and to discuss different opinions about what the First World War still stood for a hundred years later. What are the correlations between national, transnational and European perspectives? Is there a difference between a European perspective and multiperspectivity? What can and what should be the goal of historical education concerning the First World War?
The dissertation analyzes labour market projects co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) targeting unemployed migrants and ethnicized groups. The analysis is qualitative, discourse-oriented and based on Foucault's concept of governmentality. More specifically, it is highlighted how the target groups are ethnicized through discourses of employability and learning. The thesis consists of four articles. In the first three articles, focus is mainly on how the projects present themselves through their project descriptions in the ESF project bank and the fourth article is mainly based on ethnographic material. Overall, this dissertation highlights different aspects of inclusion work directed towards migrants and ethnicized target groups that can be seen as problematic and sometimes contradictory. Tendencies to individualize unemployment and thus positioning the unemployed project participants as responsible for their situation is interrogated in the thesis. Further, it is analyzed how culture and ethnicity is used in ways that are likely to strengthen the target groups 'Otherness' in relation to a 'Swedishness' that often become synonymous with what is perceived as normal and thus widening the gap between 'us' and 'them' when the stated goal is the opposite. This dissertation can serve as a starting point to reflect on how inclusion efforts and labour market projects seeking to produce social inclusion and employability may be at risk to categorize people in different ways, which can sometimes be problematic in relation to what the efforts seek to achieve.
Prije svega, treba osmisliti kvalitetan kulturno-turistički proizvod. Temeljem tih istraživanja država treba educirati i osvještavati stanovništvo o značaju turističke valorizacije prirodne i kulturne baštine u funkciji lokalnog gospodarskog razvoja. ; The systematic inclusion of culture in the tourism offer can become one of the most important drivers of economic development in the areas in which tourism is so far underdeveloped. In this regard it is necessary to network the cultural and tourism sector at local and regional levels, however, above all, should develop a quality cultural tourism product. This paper will analyze the experience of managing the tourist valorization of culture in the function of local economic development. Also, will give a brief overview and a critical review of the role of tourism and culture on economic development in the Republic of Croatia and will analyze the management of tourism and cultural resources in the function of local economic development on the example of the city of Ivanić Grad. Finally, guidelines for development will be proposed in order to improve the diversifying tourism cultural products quality and content at the local level.
