Erving Goffman i Michel Foucault - analiza dyskursów
In: International Letters of Social and Humanistic Sciences, Heft 1, S. 19-27
Functioning of the man in extreme conditions posed by some social institutions was a subject of many scientific studies so far. Among them some works are taking the special place E. Goffman and M. Foucault. Every school of the power should be so checking the total structure of action influencing action/ interaction/s other in special cases and of oppositions and dodge with which this action is connected. Using to such a school analytical categories Goffman's neosymbolic of interactionism in the microsociological aspect and coming from Foucault's discourse analysis in the macrosocjological aspect a novelty especially in examinations can constitute of total institutions associated with the authority of the state.
Dyskurs edukacyjny w ujęciu procesualno-kognitywnym ; Educational discourse in the processual-cognitive perspective
The paper attempts at presenting diversity in discourse research and defining educational discourse in its new cognitive-procesual aspect. The analysis is concentrated on formalized educational discourse undergoing ideological influences through mass, public and government supervised education. For the detailed discussion multiperspective method including critical and rhetorical analysis has been proposed acknowledging the separateness of makro and discursive strategies together with their topoi in the common ideological – cognitive mean.

Between socialist homeland and totalitarian dictatorship. The image of the post-World War II period in Ukrainian historical discourse
In: Yearbook of the Institute of East-Central Europe: Rocznik Instytutu Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, Band 20, Heft 1, S. 183-201
This paper is devoted to the analysis of selected aspects how Ukrainian schools present the historical narrative that covers the post-World War II history of this country – particularly the period of late socialism. My goal was to establish how post-Maidan textbooks presented the times when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union in its superpower phase. I was especially interested in the current assessment of such phenomena as: post-Stalinist modernization, the movements opposing communist ideology, and the late socialist concept of the Soviet people. The source material was five new textbooks for historical education at high-school level approved for use by the Ukrainian authorities in 2019. The basic research method was discourse analysis: the content of the textbooks were critically evaluated in light of the ongoing political and social situation. Among the theoretical assumptions that were applied in the paper was that the historical narrative has a key importance as a function of the nation-state and as such serves its interests. To conclude the analysis below, it should be emphasized that historical narrative of Ukrainian Schools presents the past of the country in the second half of the 20th century as a general process of gaining independence from the Soviet centre. In the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, it should be assumed that the emancipatory nature of the interpretation of Ukraine's national history is now irreversible.
Gender in educational and public discourse of the Church. Analysis of the Pastoral Letter on the Feast of the Holy Family ; Gender w edukacyjnym, publicznym dyskursie Kościoła. Analiza Listu pasterskiego na Niedzielę Świętej Rodziny

Gender as a category of cultural gender and gender identity appears not only in scientific discourse as a topic of research, but also in public discourse, as a subject of various debates and disputes. This concept was also included into the discourse of the Catholic Church. Its creators – church leaders – embarked upon a public reinterpretation of the concept of gender, thus inserting their point of view into the broader political and ideological dispute. The aim of this paper is to review the postulates of the church concerning gender in the Pastoral Letter on the Feast of the Holy Family, which seems to be a leading programme paper concerning this issue. In this paper, gender as a research and scientific category is isolated from the scientific discourse and appropriatedby the educational discourse of the church, where it functions as a scare tactic. Structural modifications in the text and style of the letter, stylistic and rhetorical tricks, as well as pragmatic mechanisms, make the text of the pastoral letter a persuasive political argument. ; Kasiak Mateusz, Gender in educational and public discourse of the Church. Framing and Re-Framing Practices in the Round Table Media Discourse ; Praktyki ramowania i przeramowania w dyskursie medialnym dotyczącym Okrągłego Stołu
After more than 25 years since the beginning of the transformation it is worth considering the present socio-political cleavages in Polish society. The text will present the results of a research on framing analysis of the Round Table and transformation in the Polish weekly opinion magazines. Their journalists, despite changes in the media working formula, can still be regarded as the representatives of symbolic elite. They organize political discourse by defining "correct" ways of perceiving and interpreting reality. Under the broken reciprocity of perspectives the dynamics of discourse is affected by disputes which could be considered as "controversies," which can be understood, followed by Marek Czyżewski, as regarding both the communication and the metacommunication level (definition of the problem, assigning acting motives to the other side of the dispute). The dispute subjects are community symbolism and values on which the argumentation strategies adopted in the weeklies magazines are concentrated. Using the concepts of Jeffrey Alexander, it can be said that the parties involved in the discourse assign democratic code to themselves and undemocratic one to their adversaries. The objective of the article is to identify and describe framing and re-framing practices of the Round Table as initial event of Polish transformation. There are also presented some remarks concerning the problem of interpretive communities in the public debate.

"Knocking down the system". Populist political discourse the case of Paweł Kukiz ; Jak rozwalić system – populistyczny dyskurs polityczny na przykładzie wypowiedzi Pawła Kukiza
By analysing the discourse of the Polish politician Paweł Kukiz one may conclude that his populism is manifested both on the content plane and in its linguistic shape. Kukiz's parliamentary speeches and Facebook posts contain all features constitutive of populism, such as the central position of the people (in contrast to the establishment of "the others"), a simplification of the linguistic worldview (including values), the figure of a leader representing the people. The linguistic side of the discourse is colloquial, close to the average speaker, which imbues it with emotions and expressively evaluates reality, also though the use of metaphors and stereotypes. This kind of communication style helps the politician project an image of himself coherent with the roles he plays, by invoking the archetypes of a warrior and "a kid on the block", but one that always enjoys a dominant position.

Programy polskich partii politycznych jako materiał empiryczny w badaniach dyskursu politycznego ; The manifestos of political parties in Poland as empirical material in studies on political discourse
; Party manifestos are the only political documents which can be perceived as holistic visions of the social order formulated by political parties – the only political bodies eligible to implement them after winning elections. These are documents which place a given party in a concrete, historical and ideological context, therefore they should be seriously considered in academic discourse as descriptions of an envisioned and desired future of the nation, state and society. The paper aims to approach party manifestos as a specific kind of source data, present the most typical method of comparative analysis, and share the author's own experiences from several research attempts which embraced a qualitative analysis of party manifestos from 2001–2011 (altogether 57 documents). The paper points at the peculiarities of Polish parties' manifestos and attempts to explain their specific characteristics in comparison to other political documents, and discuss their advantages and weaknesses as a source data for the analysis of Polish political discourse and ideological stances of Polish parties.

Modernizacja mas. Moment polityczny i dyskurs endecji w okresie rewolucji 1905-1907 ; Modernization of the masses. Political moment and National-Democratic political discourse in the 1905–1907 Revolution
Artykuł rozważa zmianę w endeckim dyskursie politycznym w okresie rewolucji 1905–1907. Podejmuję w nim analizę zmiany stosunku do "mas". ; The article examines a change in Polish National Democratic (Nationalist) political discourse accompanying the 1905 Revolution. In particular, I scrutinize the change in the conceptualization of "the masses". I consider a particular vision of the modernization of the masses as a form of discourse of modernity. Thus, I see it as a reaction to the indeterminacy of the social inadequacy of existing political institutions and discourses and the rapid widening of actual political participation. I argue that specific conjuncture between lineages of political thinking and social processes created a tipping point: a political moment or crisis. A particular answer for this moment – in this case an organic, hierarchic discourse of community and the envisioned whole of disciplined masses under the nationalistic control – defined the forthcoming shape of the National Democratic program. This resulted in long lasting consequences and defined the overall National Democratic project.

A critique of massification of higher education in Poland and the United States: Mass-media discourse analysis ; Krytyka umasowienia szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce i Stanach Zjednoczonych – analiza dyskursu mediów masowych
The nearly universal access to higher education (HE) in developed countries was once praised as a great democratic achievement, and a basis for both economic development and social mobility. After the onset of the 2008 recession, the narratives changed considerably. The most radical critics of HE propose a partial "deschooling" of society by reversing the process of massification. This paper aims to present a critical discourse analysis (CAD) of the "don't go to college" discourse that became popular in Poland and the United States. I trace the differences in the way the decision to go to college is conceptualized in Poland and the U.S to the differences in dominant political ideologies – democratic and egalitarian in the U.S., paternalistic and conservative in Poland. I also show how recent changes in the actual HE systems put those ideologies at odds with the educational realities of both countries. Zastosowanie KAD pozwala mi pokazać, jak te, z pozoru podobne, narracje mają u swych podstaw dwie przeciwstawne ideologie polityczne – liberalny indywidualizmu w wypadku USA i konserwatywny paternalizm w Polsce. Wskazuję też, w jaki sposób rzeczywista sytuacja absolwentów szkół wyższych stawia w wątpliwość racjonalność prognoz i planów formułowanych w obu odmianach analizowanego dyskursu.
