Entering Germany: 1944 - 1949
(1) (LK/HH: Raschka)
Collective farmers claims in the Portuguese Midi (1275-1385) ; Les revendications paysannes collectives dans le Midi portugais (1275-1385)
[online]: http://www.cairn.info/revue-histoire-et-societes-rurales-2001-1-page-165.htm national audience in the South of Portugal, the study of farmers' collective claims has profound specificities, both in historical and documentary terms: communities are born (under a municipal organisation or included in a municipality) from a convergence of interests between settler groups and legal authorities. Until the mid-18th century, conflicts were settled in a customary process that leaves little explicit trace. Secondly, seigneural ownership is becoming more rigorous, particularly financially, and conflicts take a procedural form: there are still fairly homogeneous communities (despite a shift towards political oligarchy and land concentration), which are therefore combative, but obliged to integrate into the objectives and mechanisms of the monarchic power in order to safeguard their interests. ; In the South of Portugal, the study of peasant claims reveals strong particularities, both historically and from a documentary point of view: The rural communities (organized in municipal concelhos) were born from a convergence of interests uniting the colonists and the legal authorities. Up to around 1250, conflicts were solved through customary negociations which left few explicit references. Later, seignorial control was strengthened for financial reasons, and conflicting claims were translated into legal proceedings. It becomes possible to observe the communities in more details. They turn out to be still largely homogeneous (in spite of a clear trend toward political oligarchy and land concentration), hence their continued combativity ; but they were increasingly compelled to insert themselves within a monarchic system in order to defend their interests. ; [online]: http://www.cairn.info/revue-histoire-et-societes-rurales-2001-1-page-165.htm national audience in the South of Portugal, the study of farmers' collective claims has profound specificities, both in historical and documentary terms: communities are born ...

L'Efficacite des politiques publiques de sante dans un pays de l'Afrique de l'Ouest: le cas du Burkina Faso
In: International political science review: IPSR = Revue internationale de science politique : RISP, Band 24, Heft 2, S. 237-256

This article analyses the efficiency of the two main health policies implemented in Burkina Faso: the primary health care (PHC) & and Bamako initiative. The analysis uses the results of two regional studies & a national documentary survey. The efficiency of these two policies is doubtful; neither allowed, despite a major public financial investment, an improvement of access to health care. In order to understand the relative ineffectiveness of these policies in Burkino Faso, it is urgent to study the interaction of the principal actors in their implementation. 5 Tables, 2 Figures, 50 References. The sociologist as media football. Reminiscences and preliminary reflections.
Eric Dunning [5-15].
This paper offers an ironical account of various experiments of the author with the press, as specialist of the violence's in stadiums analysis. Functional logics of medias, existence of hidden agendas, lack of knowledge to the files make difficult the expression by journalists of real sociological analysis, especially in the TV. The tabloid press in particular has a manipulatory use of talk that it appeals to the researchers, and contributes to the social construction of the hooligan's phenomenom. Nevertheless, they are some possibilities of cooperation with the quality press, in the context of documentary programmes.
Decentralisation and development: the Malawian experience
In: Africa development: a quarterly journal of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa = Afrique et développement, Band 29, Heft 2, S. 106-133
ISSN: 0850-3907
The reorientation of the local government system towards decentralisation has been at the centre stage in most developing countries, including Malawi, since the advent of multiparty democracy in the 1990s. The justification for the adoption of some form of decentralisation is to promote democratic governance and participatory approaches in development. The primary purpose in this article is to analyse the context within which decentralisation initiatives are undertaken in Malawi and to assess the extent to which decentralisation promotes participatory approaches in development. This paper is based primarily on documentary research and supplemented by interviews conducted with senior officials from local authorities and with selected members of the public. (Afr Dev/DÜI)

Comment le cinéma nazi falsifiait l'image des ghettos juifs (1939-1944)
In: Diasporas, Band 4, Heft 1, S. 55-69
How did the Nazi Cinema forge the Image of Jewish Ghettoes (1939-1944). Throughout the nazi production's newsreels and the documentary movies, a threefolded language concerning the Jews is revealed. This language is in the same time, colonial, eugenic and geostrategical. It is shown first in The Eternal Jew/Der Ewige Jude, film made by Fritz Hippier in the Jewish district of Lodz during 1939-1940. It is also revealed by the means of the carefully-staged scenes of the ghetto of Varsaw, the camp-ghetto in Terezin shooted during the Summer-Autumn 1944. Voluntarily made to forge reality, those pictures intended to deceive the audience as well to convince them of the righteousness of the anti-Jewish measures.
Mortalité infantile et post-infantile en Italie du XVIIIe au XXe siècle : tendances à long terme et différences régionales
In: Annales de démographie historique: ADH, Band 1994, Heft 1, S. 45-60
ISSN: 1776-2774
From the beginning of national unification (1861) onwards, the process of the decline in infant mortality has been well-known and several explanatory hypothèses have been offered about the time différences in the decline on different territories. Using a still fragmentary and heterogeneous documentary data basis, this article has attempted to outline the evolution of the mortality of children as from the eighteenth century, stressing the permanence of territorial particularities in the long run. Before the beginning of the irreversible decline (as from the second half of the nineteenth centry), the determining factors of the territorial differences seem to depend more on socio-cultural factors and on the surrounding atmosphere than on the standards of living of the populations.
