Das Wort Event erlebt seit nunmehr zwei Jahrzehnten eine steile Karriere. Events, als geplante, kontrollierte und letztlich auch inszenierte Ereignisse verstanden, deren Organisation zumeist professionellen Anbietern obliegt, durchdringen die Gesellschaft vom globalen bis zum lokalen und zum privaten Event. Da sie in aller Regel auf die Herstellung emotionaler Atmosphären der Übereinstimmung und des Einverständnisses angelegt sind, geraten diskursive Haltungen wie Zweifel, Nachfrage, Widerspruch und Kritik zunehmend ins Abseits. Parallel mit der Konjunktur der Events gewinnt in den pädagogischen Bereichen das Edutainment an Bedeutung. Wie verortet sich die Pädagogik gegenüber diesen Veränderungen? Kann sich die Souveränität der Subjekte in der eventisierten und medialisierten Welt von selbst einstellen, oder sollte hier auf Abstand und Innehalten gedrungen werden, um eine Souveränität zu stärken, die auch Mündigkeit meint? Vor diesem Hintergrund geht es in diesem Jahrbuch darum, unter verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und Aspekten hinter die Kulissen von Events und Edutainment zu schauen und kritisch zu fragen, wie und wohin die politische Kultur transformiert wird und welche Gegenbewegungen möglich sind. "Decision in Normandy" is an interactive educational and entertainment application involving the events surrounding the invasion of France by the Allies in 1944. The idea for this thesis project originated from an interest in the growing field of multimedia in the educational and entertainment areas and a life-long interest in military history. The term now in use for such an application is "edutainment". The project combines the concepts of software engineering with knowledge of a particularly important military event to create a software package that gives the user the opportunity to learn while having fun. The decision was made to use the invasion of Normandy (D-Day) because of all the publicity surrounding its fiftieth anniversary. Because such a package is very complex and still quite new to the software engineering community, this project was very challenging. More packages of this type are planned so the concept of reusability was important from the beginning.

The paper discusses the urgent modernization necessity of both modern educational process and the English language teaching at the technological university, the importance and efficiency of creativity and heuristic approach being highlighted. Some scenario episodes of a specially designed innovative heuristic performance illustrate the results of its introduction, the dominant role of the English language in personal and professional students' competence formation being stated.

This study aims to describe and to analyze how creative school shapes the character of students through edutainment strategies. Character building is very important so the school need to design the curricula to develop students' character. Creative schools can use edutainment strategies to shape students' character, which provide enjoyable learning process. This qualitative-descriptive study used interviews, observation, and documentation for collecting the data which are analyzed qualitatively. The results show that the school as a creative school with edutainment-based character building, designed innovative ideas involving various activities namely, 1) Tilawah and Tahfidz (recitation and memorization of) Qur'an that formed character of religious and likes to read; 2) multiple language program that built friendly, communicative, responsible, and disciplined students; 3) computer education that developed creative and curious; 4) outdoor learning that included the character values: responsible and care for the environment; 5) leadership and entrepreneurship that resulted the students to be responsible, independent, disciplined, socially caring, and honest; 6) inviting native speakers that created the character of friendly and communicative.

Does media exposure affect health behaviours? And how? We exploit the idiosyncratic switchover to digital television across Italian regions which exogenously increased the number of free view national channels and we link this to high-frequency data on the supply of food-related contents on the TV. We find that increased exposure to these contents improved the size and the composition of households' food baskets and, in particular, caused a reduction of expenditure on food high in fats and carbohydrates and an increase on food high in protein. Consistently with such a change in food basket composition, we also document a significant reduction in BMI among individuals more exposed to food-related TV contents which is not explained by any change in physical activity. Finally, we find support for the imitation and learning-bywatching mechanism as driving our results, by documenting a significant increase in the volume of Google and YouTube searches for recipes and video-recipes. Our findings question the health-related negative stereotypes often associated with TV exposure and highlight its potential as a brand-new health policy lever. ; Beeinflusst die Medienexposition das Gesundheitsverhalten? Wir nutzen die Umstellung auf digitales Fernsehen in den italienischen Regionen, die exogen die Zahl der nationalen Free-View-Kanäle erhöht hat, und verknüpfen dies mit hochfrequenten Daten über das Angebot an lebensmittelbezogenen Inhalten im Fernsehen. Wir stellen fest, dass eine erhöhte Exposition gegenüber diesen Inhalten die Größe und die Zusammensetzung der Lebensmittelwarenkörbe der Haushalte verbesserte und insbesondere zu einer Verringerung der Ausgaben für Lebensmittel mit hohem Fett- und Kohlenhydratgehalt und zu einer Erhöhung der Ausgaben für Lebensmittel mit hohem Proteingehalt führte. Im Einklang mit einer solchen Veränderung der Zusammensetzung der Lebensmittelwarenkörbe dokumentieren wir auch eine signifikante Verringerung des BMI bei Personen, die stärker mit lebensmittelbezogenen Fernsehinhalten in Berührung kommen. Diese kann nicht durch eine Veränderung der körperlichen Aktivität erklärt werden. Schließlich finden wir Unterstützung für den Imitations- und Learning-by-Watching-Mechanismus als Triebfeder unserer Ergebnisse, indem wir eine signifikante Zunahme des Volumens der Google- und YouTube-Suche nach Rezepten und Videorezepten dokumentieren. Unsere Ergebnisse stellen die gesundheitsbezogenen negativen Stereotypen in Frage, die oft mit der TV-Exposition in Verbindung gebracht werden, und unterstreichen ihr Potenzial als neuer gesundheitspolitischer Hebel.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to see if edutainment containing only healthy food can change children's preferences and food choices toward healthy eating, especially in overweight or obese children, and if the children's self-regulation, emotional overeating and parents that use food as a reward would influence those changes. This is important because childhood obesity is one of the biggest public health problems of the 21st century.


Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a study in two public schools (total 189 children) with a between-subjects experimental design (control vs experimental group), where children in experimental group watched an episode of Nutri Ventures series without unhealthy foods.


Findings
The results showed no differences in both children's preferences and children's food choices between the control and experimental group, with exception of older children, and contrary to our expectations. Older children in the experimental group chose more unhealthy food than children in the control group. The authors also saw differences in food choices between "emotional overeating" groups, where the children in "high" group tended to choose less healthy food items, especially in the experimental group of children. This leads the authors to believe that isolated edutainment may not be enough to change preferences and food choices; instead it might even have an opposite effect.


Originality/value
This study aimed to identify if edutainment containing only healthy food could be more effective in childhood obesity prevention but instead it showed how complex the whole topic can be.

Science slams are a prominent form of science communication especially in Germany that seeks to entertain. While some view science slams as an excellent vehicle for disseminating knowledge, others argue that the imperative to entertain undermines the scientific value of this form of presentation. Drawing on empirical data from three science slam events, this explorative study examines how audiences and presenters perceive the science slam, particularly as it relates to entertainment and the communication of scientific knowledge. Our multi-method analysis includes audience surveys (n = 469), an eye-tracking study, and interviews with science slammers (n = 18). Our results show that the main reason audiences attend a science slam is for entertainment, yet they also have a strong interest in scientific content. Assessing the slammers' aspirations concerning the audience, we find entertainment to be an important part, but the motivation to impart scientific knowledge is key for most. When asked to evaluate individual presentations (n = 20), spectators tended to rate both the entertainment and scientific value of the presentations as high. However, in terms of visual attention within individual presentations, spectators spent more time considering scientific content than entertainment content. Overall, we do not find evidence for the common claim that the focus on entertainment undermines the scientific value of science slam presentations - rather, entertainment and scientific content are combined to produce "edutainment" in a positive sense.

With more than 811 million mobile subscribers as of March 2011 (Sohoni 2011), India not only ranks as the second largest mobile phone customer base in the world after China with 900 million mobile phone subscribers ( China Has Over 900 Mobile Users…, 2011) but is believed to have one of the highest penetration of cell phones since they are expected to reach more than 97 per cent of the country's population of 1.26 billion by 2014 ( India's Cellphone Users… 2011). Moreover, the Indian mobile entertainment industry itself is witnessing a tremendous growth according to the industry specialists who have predicted that the market will reach up to $4.9 billion by 2015 (Srikaparchi 2011). This is a substantial increase from $1.2 billion in 2009, which puts it at the compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26 per cent in the period 2009–2015. This significant growth of the mobile entertainment industry can be attributed to a number of factors, including the booming economy as a result of the rising middle class, growth of the mobile handset market, localization of entertainment content, rise in the number of service providers and gaming companies as well as foreign collaborations. The rising middle class is one of the determining factors in the growth of the mobile gaming industry. According to a report of the National Council for Applied Economic Research's (NCAER) Center for Macro Consumer Research, there will be 267 million middle class people in India by 2015–16, thus providing a great market opportunity for the mobile entertainment industry (Press Trust of India 2011). Moreover, having more than half the population below the age group of 25 is another reason why the gaming industry will flourish in the future as it is the younger generation who is technically savvy and more likely than adults to use mobiles for information and entertainment. With the booming economy, availability of low-priced devices and better network coverage, rural people are also in the market for using cellphones for edutainment purposes.
