Within 9 hours of President J. F. Kennedy's assassination, 114 interviews were completed in Denver, Colorado. The questionaires investigated the degree & variation of emotional response; the kinds of groups or individuals who were suspected of committing the assassination & who R's hoped had done it; the sources of information about the assassination; & the degree of belief in the first news heard. Pol'al preference was found to relate to the type of person suspected: the right wing was mentioned by 43% of the Democrats, & only 6% of the Republicans. Only Democrats, independents, &, R's not of voting age hoped a rightist was responsible. The majority of the R's were personally informed rather than being informed directly through the MM. However, radio & TV were superior in developing a feeling of complete belief in the news. (See SA 0827-B3424 & 0828-B3438). AA.

A good deal is already known about the effects of alcohol on spe cific psychological functions such as perception, memory, judgment, learning ability, and certain emotions. We are also beginning to understand something of how the effect of alcohol on an individual's need-patterns may lead to con tinued drinking, and, further, how alcohol can give rise to quite different pat terns of behavior in different individuals or in the same individual at different times. Much remains to be learned, however, about the specific ways in which the need-patterns of normal drinkers and nondrinkers differ from those of addictive drinkers.
