The author's goal is to analyze the impact of changes in the international security environment on the defense policy of New Zealand in the second decade of the 21st century. It was found that the changes have a direct impact on New Zealand's policy during the governments lead by the National Party. The evidence can be found in the documents and decisions e.g. increase of defence spending and modernization of armed forces. Moreover, the start of developing the national security policy, which combines a number of different policies regarding state's security. There is no doubt that the National Party implemented a program of strengthening defence capabilities. The author will prove that it happened due to new threats to international security. The content of documents issued in the years 2008–2016 cleary confirm that argument eg. military spending of 20 billion NZD in the coming years. It should be considered as a correct direction because of opposing the negative consequences of changes in the natural environment, the growing role of the People's Republic of China, the nature of contemporary armed conflicts and terrorism is possible only by using a holistic approach to security. This point of view is strongly supported by an opinion that geographic isolation is no longer a guarantee of peace for New Zealand. It is impossible in the times of the 21st Century globalization and the rapid technological development manifested by a series of new, previously unknown cyber-threats. These are particularly dangerous for New Zealand's society due to the level of use of new technologies in ordinary life.To sum it up, the author of the issue will be based on the neorealist perspective and try to prove that the changes in the international security environment have direct impact on the defence and security policy of New Zealand. Key words: New Zealand; defence policy; national security policy; international security environment; New Zealand Defence Force.

The dynamic growth in consumption causes an increasing quantity of industrial and communal waste. The waste is the reason for many problems in all countries of the world, and preventing its abundant generation, its rational exploitation and, as the last resort, safe disposal is one of the important challenges posed to contemporary cities. Managing the waste economy or the waste management policy is the area of the interests of the European Union, both in legal and economic aspects. The legal aspects encompass the protection of the natural environment whereas the economic ones address the economical usage of waste under the municipal economy. Poland, following the E.U. trends, is adapting its legislation to the E.U. legislation. Thus it puts more weight to the 'waste' policy implementing some solutions in the area of waste management drawing on the Swedish or German models, i.e. trying, to give an example, to transform a part of the waste thermally this way generating fuel for the production of central heating and electric energy. The article is aimed at the presentation of the current issues in the area of the waste management policy in Poland, above all, pertaining to the amendment to the regulations covered by the Law on the Maintenance of the Order and Cleanliness in Communities. The article also aims to address the issues pertaining to the so-called "in house" orders connected with the management of communal waste by municipal companies.

The article intends to illustrate the climate, social and primarily health effects resulting from the emission of various substances in the process of burning coal and waste, and the legal framework related to the issue of air pollution as a result of low emissions. The authors discuss also the main directions of the changes proposed in the so-called "anti-smog" law. The authors pose the thesis that Poland has still not solved problems of low emissions, despite the measures taken in the amendment to the Environmental Law. In their view, Poland still has a long way to go before it creates a low-carbon economy. The traditional use of coal in Poland hinders putting ecological changes into practice. Incineration of waste produced by households is another social pathology. Besides municipal waste, some hazardous waste also produced in households can be found. The level of environmental education is very poor in this respect. However, without significant actions, we will continue to destroy our own and our neighbours' health, contribute to climate change as some climatologists' think and pay penalties for failing to meet ecological commitments to the European Union as well.

Inicjatywy podejmowane na rzecz ochrony środowiska naturalnego były m.in. konsekwencją kształtowania świadomości ekologicznej Polaków. Attitudes and reactions of Polish people to natural environment pollution in the country (1971–1989)The article presents an analysis of the attitudes of the Polish society towards the degradation of an ecosystem occurring in three planes. Macro-scale actions are presented on the example of Chernobyl disaster and protests against the construction of nuclear power station at Żarnowiec. Afire in the Organika-Benzyl Chemical Plant and problems with the construction of a combined heat and power plant for the town of Kielce in the area of a natural reserve serve as examples of regional operations. Most numerous are examples for the local level, which include many initiatives of local municipal and rural communities. The issue of attitude of Polish people towards the pollution of natural environment in the country after the World War Two has been marginalised so far in the literature on the subject. It seems, however, that such an approach is wrong, and thorough studies in this field will certainly make a valuable contribution to the socio-economic history of the Polish People's Republic.
