Kaksikielinen kokoomateos Narratives of fear and safety tarkastelee pelon ja turvallisuuden dynamiikkaa ja kulttuurisia merkityksiä kirjallisuudessa ja muissa medioissa. Englannin- ja ranskankieliset artikkelit tarjoavat tuoreita, kulttuurien rajat ylittäviä tulkintoja pelon ja turvallisuuden teemoista sekä tuottavat uutta tietoa kertomuksen eri lajeille ominaisista tavoista luoda kuvitteellisia maailmoja. Teos osoittaa, kuinka tärkeää pelon ja turvallisuuden esitysten tutkiminen on, jotta voisimme ymmärtää ilmastokriisien kaltaisia globaaleja uhkia ja niiden vaikutuksia tulevaisuuteen. Teoksen pääteemoja lähestytään kirjallisuuden- ja kulttuurintutkimuksen menetelmin uusimpien tutkimussuuntien, muun muassa affekti- ja riskiteorian, lähtökohdista. Useat artikkelit ammentavat sukupuolen ja trauman tutkimuksesta kartoittaessaan kollektiivisia pelkoja ja aggressioita, jotka uhkaavat yksilöiden elämää ja heidän mahdollisuuksiaan löytää keinoja selviytyä pelon tunteiden kanssa. Pelon ja turvallisuuden tematiikkaan keskittyvät myös artikkelit, joissa analysoidaan menneisyyden uudelleen kertomista vanhojen myyttien adaptaatioiden näkökulmasta. Monet teoksen artikkeleista käsittelevät tällä hetkellä suosittuja apokalyptisia ja dystooppisia kertomuksia. Dystopiat eivät keskity pelkästään totalitarismin, teknokratian tai ekologisten katastrofien kaltaisiin tulevaisuudenuhkiin, vaan tutkivat myös vaihtoehtoisia olemisen tapoja, jotka syntyvät poliittisen vastarinnan seurauksena. Booky.fi ja Adlibris -verkkokirjakaupoista. ; The essays in this edited volume, written in English and French, tackle the intriguing problems of fear and safety by analysing their various meanings and manifestations in literature and other narrative media. The articles bring forth new, cross-cultural interpretations on fear and safety through examining what kinds of genre-specific means of world-making narratives use to express these two affectivities. The articles also show how important it is to study these themes in order to understand challenges in times of global threats, such as the climate crisis. The main themes of the book are approached from various theoretical perspectives as related to their literary and cultural representations. Recent trends in research, such as affect and risk theory, serve as the basis for the discussion. Many of the articles in the volume discuss apocalyptic and dystopian narratives that currently permeate the entire cultural landscape. Dystopian narratives do not only deal with future threats, such as totalitarianism, technocracy, or environmental disasters, but also suggest alternative ways of being and new hopes in the form of political resistance. The articles in the volume also draw from disciplines such as gender studies and trauma studies to examine the threats posed by collective fears and aggression on individuals' lives and propose ways of coping with fear. International audience ; This contribution aims at discussing how news media produce fear about the European Union (EU) and the discursive strategies employed to (de)legitimate it. The research rests upon a case study related to the production of 'news of fear' about EU, by Cypriot online media. In mobilising a diachronic approach the study aiming at scrutinizing the impact of financial crisis (2013) on the media discourse about EU in the Cypriot public sphere. The study proposes a twofold analysis of these media discourses by articulating their content with their process of production: a discourse analysis of the news stories (Discourse Historical Approach) and an analysis of the production process (Configurational Analysis) through interviews with those directly involved. Specifically, it gives emphasis to the different ways that media (de)construct fear about "Europe", in relation to their: a) ideological background (political profile and linkage with political parties); b) organisational structure (division of labour and vertical/horizontal internal hierarchy); Thus, the proposition also aims to contribute to the methodological and theoretical discussion on the linkage between discourse and process analysis in the field of media research and discourse studies. It shows that an analytical perspective that takes into consideration simultaneously both media discourse and its process of production has important benefits for research. The use of such approach is heuristic and helps to avoid interpretative mistakes by analysts. It stress the importance of reconnecting sociological interrogations on interactions and power relations between actors within the field of production to media discourse analysis. This is particularly important in studying how organisational structures, symbolic power relations and cultural factors influence mediatised discourses of fear about Europe.

This paper seeks to look at the construction of the fear of peace from two notions that are considered relevant: time and space. Time from the construction of the past, present and future, space from the territory. To this end, two approaches are made, one of a reflexive order and the other based on expressions related to the result of the peace dialogues between the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the FARC-EP. This route is maintained in the past and in the present, to then reach the future, where from the explanation of the leader of the opposition to the peace process, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, the fear of peace materializes, to bet on other ways in which it is possible to narrate the past to build other futures. ; Este escrito busca realizar una mirada a la construcción del miedo a la paz desde dos nociones que se consideran relevantes: tiempo y espacio. El tiempo desde la construcción del pasado, presente y futuro, el espacio desde el territorio. Para este fin se realizan dos aproximaciones, una de orden reflexivo y la otra a partir de expresiones relacionadas con al resultado de los diálogos de paz entre el gobierno de Juan Manuel Santos y las FARC-EP. Este recorrido se mantiene en el pasado y en el presente, para entonces llegar al futuro, donde a partir de la explicación del líder de la oposición al proceso de paz, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, se materializa el miedo a la paz, para apostar por formas otras en que es posible narrar el pasado para construir otros futuros.

El presente trabajo contiene un análisis de los pasajes 1.382a1 a 1.383b10 del libro II de La Retórica de Aristóteles en relación con el capítulo I del Tratado sobre el Ciudadano y el capítulo XIII del Leviatán de Thomas Hobbes. El tema versa sobre las condiciones que posibilitan la generación del miedo en los hombres y en la concepción tanto irracional como pasional que poseen ambos filósofos sobre la naturaleza humana. Estableciendo esta relación, se pretende exponer cómo a partir del miedo, por un lado, es posible influenciar el juicio de los hombres, y por otro, incitarlos a conformar una comunidad política. El miedo como pasión humana sería una potencia entre la irracionalidad del hombre y su civilidad. ; The present work contains an analysis of the passages 1.382a1 to 1.383b10 of book II of The Rhetoric of Aristotle in relation to chapter I of the Treatise on the Citizen and chapter XIII of Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan. The subject is about the conditions that make possible the generation of fear in men and the irrational and passionate conception that both philosophers have about human nature. Establishing this relationship, it is intended to expose how from fear, on the one hand, it is possible to influence men's judgment, and on the other, to incite them to form a political community. Then, fear as a human passion would be a power between the irrationality of man and his civility.

First, he analyzes the passage of the risk society to a society of fear, and specifically regarding technological risk, globalization, the radicalization of identities and the role of the Internet. Then he warns how democracy is facing a policy compromised by fear, the emergence of new conflicts and the illiberal responses that already exist. The author also discusses how to confront the fear in terms of security, the constitutional patriotism, and other strategies of containment and promotion. From the definition of fear as a collective and political phenomenon, in this article we propose that the analysis of its manifestations at the beginning of the nineteenth century should be included as one of the explanatory elements of the political participation of the urban plebs in Rio de la Plata revolutionary process. ; A partir de la definición del miedo como un fenómeno colectivo y político, en este artículo proponemos que el análisis de sus manifestaciones al iniciarse el siglo XIX debe ser incluido como uno de los elementos explicativos de la participación política de la plebe urbana en el proceso revolucionario rioplatense.

A lo largo de los siglos XIV y XV el miedo fue presentado en muchas ocasiones en las fuentes, especialmente cronísticas, que nos ha legado el periodo. A lo largo del presente trabajo se pretende analizar cómo se presenta ese miedo y si se utilizó como un arma política, así como cuáles fueron sus principales manifestaciones, las respuestas y las consecuencias que ese miedo provocó. ; Fear was often represented in the sources for Castilian history from the XIVth and XVth centuries. This paper will analyze how fear was presented and whether or not it was used as a political strategy, as well as its principal manifestations, the responses to fear and the consequences that it provoked.
