In this paper we study the Jewish feminist program expounded by the American theologian Judith Plaskow in her book Standing Again at Sinai. Focusing on her most important contributions, we summarize the project of a Jewish feminist theology capable of renewing the central categories of the Jewish religion (God, Torah, and Israel). This project is a fundamental part of a feminism with social and political implications.
; The present work is based on the assumption that the non-insertion of women in the political arena – a recent fact, 20th century – occurred not in spite of democratic thought, but because the democratic theory was based in that exclusion of women in the public space. This assumption is a product of the critical gaze that feminism has made to the classic theories of democracy, specifically, to the social contract. In this framework, Carole Pateman is an author of the highest relevance, since her criticism is based on the deconstruction of classic speeches about democracy, and not from outside. The present paper makes a follow-up of Pateman's main ideas in her book The Disorder of Women, around two classics of the social contract, Rousseau and Locke, about essential issues, to understand the exclusion of women from the political arena: the social contract, the public sphere and their subjects, the citizens. To do this, we will be based on other authors, such as Mary Wollstonecraft, cited by Pateman in that book, and C.B. MacPherson, a theorist and critic of the liberal thought and modern democracy.
Many of the papers and more-than-textual proposals submitted for this special issue included machine vision technologies and other data- and AI- mediated practices. To provide a critical perspective on data-driven (design) research, we decided to explore the emerging field of data feminism through online interviews with three scholars and practitioners who apply intersectional feminist theory and practice to the realm of data-driven work: Catherine D'Ignazio, Lauren Klein, and Maya Livio. With Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren Klein, authors of the book Data Feminism (2020), we touch upon the idea of data feminism as a way of thinking about (and acting upon) data and data science, informed by intersectional feminist thinking. From examining and challenging power structures in the data collection process to embracing pluralism beyond binaries and hierarchies, they outline a research program that clarifies why and how data science needs intersectional feminism. With them, we discuss how art and (speculative) design practices can make power imbalances visible. We also discuss the limitations and advantages of participatory data practices and the responsibility that lies upon data collectors when making visible an issue through data can cause more harm than good to those affected by it. We discuss how sometimes one needs to reject ground rules of data visualization to pursue higher political goals beyond simple analytical needs. We conclude this conversation with an invitation to embrace complexity when applying feminist principles to data work, while being aware of our personal standpoints and limitations. With Maya Livio, researcher and curator at the University of Colorado Boulder, we discuss how an intersectional feminist approach to data science can also consider more-than-human beings. We talk about her work on animal interfaces, in which she explores how the contact points between the human and more-than-human worlds are permeated with technology. Maya Livio then takes us through her experiences in feminist labs, explaining how the first step of incorporating a feminist practice is to take stock of and codify the work being done, cultivating attention towards (often unspoken or unwritten) methods and practices. We also discuss how she and her colleagues developed a framework for operationalizing the art of noticing as a methodological contribution. Finally, we touch upon her personal research approach, characterized by a mix of experimental multidisciplinary practices, moving from writing to curating to design and art-making.
The poet Hilda Rais, under the pseudonym Calderita Barcarola, first published this poem under the title "A cook speaks" in 1994, as part of a dossier on abortion in number 13 of Feminaria magazine. This thematic collection of articles also contained texts by Mabel Bellucci, Clara Kuschnir and Cecilia Lipszyc, three essays translated from English and an interview with Giovanni Berlinguer, the author of the project that legalized abortion in Italy in 1978. On the same page as The poem featured a humorous vignette by Diana Raznovich, showing the feminist ability to fluently bring together reflective thinking, political analysis of the situation, humor and poetry. A few years later, in 1998, the poem was republished with the title "Life is not a dream" as part of the book Locas por la cocina. The humorous tone and the culinary theme were the central motifs of the book that brought together the writing of Hilda Rais with that of Angélica Gorodischer, Virginia Haurie, Elvira Ibargüen and Ana Sampaolesi to give rise to a witty cookbook of "feminist cuisine". From the cover photo, where the five authors can be seen laughing with pompous chef hats on their heads, they disarm the idea that feminists have no sense of humor and hate cooking. Each text in the book is a celebration of feminist humor and also of the works, knowledge and stories associated with the domestic. The kitchen — with its labors, utensils, and ingredients despised by androcentric rationality — becomes a territory for the display of feminist wit, pleasure, and wisdom. The poem certainly deserves to be read in connection with the editorial, literary and political projects in which it was published. It also deserves to be read as part of Hilda Rais' unique writing, poetic work and political journey.
Two questions of the present society: the unequal relationship between men and women, and the types of family established, for the analysis, is taken up the research of Federico Engels, "The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State", which Allows us to look retrospectively at the formation of the human race, its first forms of family, of social, sexual relationships and how this has been the basis of what we have now.
In the book "The feminist power. Or the desire to change everything" Verónica Gago takes on the challenge of problematizing the current claim of feminisms. With an exercise in situated thinking, he shares with us a series of questions that make up the plot of the text. With its development, it produces a diagnosis that functions as a sounding board for conflict. And it makes this process not only a moment of complaint but also of programming. It could be a new book on feminism or on the novelty of this social movement. However, this writing is more than that. It presents an alternative theory of power, providing us with tools to think about the reconfigurations that it adopts today and how feminisms are main actors in this evolution. Located within the organizational dynamics of the movement, Gago presents us with a live record of discussions, assemblies, conversations and debates that, as the book progresses, is linked with political and theoretical concerns, giving shape to a militant investigation. ; No livro "O poder feminista. This article analyzes the representation of witches and princesses in the story "La mica", from the book Cuentos de mi tía Panchita (1920), by Carmen Lyra. For this purpose, a series of sections are established. First, the critical apparatus by which the text is approached, corresponding to the feminist literary and the defined object of study, is pointed out. Secondly, the author and her work are located within their political, social, economic and cultural context. Third, two mediation strategies are included: intertexts and inter-discourses, in order to elucidate the analysis. Fourth, the social and ideological implications of the discourses inherent in the story are pointed out. Finally, the conclusions obtained from the approach are provided.
; Consciousness-raising is a feminist methodology whose name originated in the groups of women who were trained in the United States in the seventies (second wave feminism). In them, each woman presented her life. Some were organized by themes, such as motherhood, physical image or sexual relations, others read books and shared bibliography, and others helped women in difficult times. The result of these conversations is the formation of the "sexual class" consciousness that constitutes the seed of collective action. From the consciousness-raising groups of the seventies emerged fundamental concepts of feminism as "patriarchy" or "sexual class". If the feminism of the seventies was revolutionary, the feminism of our days, through social networks, could reach an unprecedented scale. This article intends to investigate the similarities between the feminism of the second wave and that of the fourth wave (current). The objective is to elucidate whether social networks allow the development of the aforementioned method of consciousness-raising, originating new explanatory concepts of the political reality of women.
; Feminism is undergoing a revitalization of its political nature, while it has become an object of consumption taking the form of t-shirts, mugs and books. The intersection between pop culture and feminism allows us to translate feminist philosophies and concepts into everyday language, making them relevant and easy to identify for the general public. In this article we analyse how feminist theory is disseminated through the «manuals» or «guides» for feminism, developing three main tasks. Firstly, establishing a list of the latest publications about feminist topics with an informative nature and classify it according to typologies. Secondly, identifying the main themes of these publications. Thirdly, establishing some conclusions about the nature of these works, as well as an attempt to define them.
This article explores Simon de Beauvoir's place in feminist genealogy. It presents the philosopher who inherited Enlightenment feminism and went on to challenge the great hegemonic traditions of her time, Marxism and Psychoanalysis in order to reveal human androcentrism. Her book The Second Sex became the key that opened a feminist perspective on the whole human experience. She unlocked the private sphere as a new arena of research and politicisation. Moreover, she criticised patriarchal culture from an astounding interdisciplinary approach. Finally, this article analyses her militancy in the feminist movement.
In this book, the author proposes a reading of the work of the Argentine philosopher Ernesto Laclau from a holistic approach of his fundamental categories, observing in depth the way in which these were built throughout of the different stages of his thought, from his earliest texts. Taking into account that the general reception of the Laclaunian corpus has emphasized mainly partial aspects of it, this approach seeks to contribute a global and original vision, critically deconstructing concepts with the object of finding its internal structuring, as well as its aporias and insufficiencies. The author also realizes that the prevailing readings of Laclau's philosophical contribution come from Marxist, feminist, poststructuralist and psychoanalytic. He announces, then, that his reading will take place in a phenomenological-hermeneutic key, inspired by the young Heidegger, with which he seeks to find an ontological and hermeneutic factor of the political in the theory of hegemony, and to elaborate from it a phenomenology of the political.
Between 2016 and 2018, photographer Pablo Ortiz Monasterio visited the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina three times. Observing how the "Me too" movement was gaining strength, not only in the United States, but also throughout Latin America, Ortiz Monasterio witnesses the latent and at the same time palpable power of the city's women. Women, he says, who stomp their feet and who, portrayed in this small book, represent the forcefulness of the affections that lead the feminist movements that fight and work for a more just future. This book begins with Eva, not with the first woman in history, but with Eva Perón, considered the spiritual head of the Argentine Nation. Pablo Ortiz Monasterio opens with a photo of a public building in the city of Buenos Aires in which a huge metal sculpture of Evita speaks to her people. It is fair that she'd be the first to appear in the book since she achieved something that seemed impossible: she gave Argentine women the right to vote. On September 23, 1947, Eva addressed the "women of her country", and in a mythical speech in Plaza de Mayo, announced the sanction of the Law of the Female Voting, a historic claim that demanded equal rights and opportunities for women

Part of a review symposium on a book by Francisco Colom, Razones de identitad. Pluralismo cultural e integracion politica ([Rights of Identity. Cultural Pluralism and Political Integration] Barcelona: Anthropos, 1999). It is argued that the author's ambiguous definition of multiculturalism & his perception of feminism as part of the politics of identity produce confusion in an otherwise valuable reflection on cultural pluralism. It is contended that Colom's conception of multiculturalism as an intellectual, moral, & political scheme for integration & inclusion often incorporates that which is not cultural into the cultural realm. His cultural approach to the feminist movement is undermined by the fact that women do not constitute a culture. More problems with his view of the feminist movement stem from his inclusion of the language of feminism within the language of identity, which tends to constrict his perception of the social movement as a whole.
