La tesi si propone di indagare la compatibilità del Regolamento europeo 2017/821 con gli obblighi derivanti dagli accordi su cui si fonda l'Organizzazione Mondiale del Commercio (OMC). Il Regolamento disciplina l'importazione di minerali e metalli contenenti stagno, tungsteno, tantalio e oro. Questi minerali sono anche noti come 'minerali di conflitto', dal momento che la loro estrazione avviene spesso in contesti di endemica instabilità politica e abuso sistematico dei diritti della popolazione. Inoltre, il loro commercio illegale finanzia gruppi armati o i vertici di corrotte gerarchie politiche e militari. Dopo una breve ricostruzione dei problemi legati ai minerali di conflitto e delle iniziative che la comunità internazionale ha promosso per regolare il fenomeno, il lavoro di ricerca si concentra su una descrizione critica del contenuto del Regolamento. Infine, l'attenzione si sposta sulle possibili tensioni tra alcune previsioni del Regolamento e gli obblighi contenuti nell'Accordo Generale sulle Tariffe ed il Commercio.
