The identification of the food consumption profile as well as the nutritional status in schoolchildren becomes very important, because it is during this phase of life that healthy eating habits are formed, which contribute to a healthy life until adulthood. The objective of this study was to evaluate the eating habits frequency and the anthropometric profile of children from 5 to 10 years of age, from a private school in Palmas, Tocantins. A total of 184 children, both boys and girls, who underwent an anthropometric evaluation and answered a food consumption form were evaluated. Of the students evaluated, most were eutrophic, 37% presented nutritional risk and 4.3%, severe obesity. Dietary intake was similar between both sexes and for all classes of nutritional status. The results highlighted the need forfood and nutrition education for these children, including family and school settings.

Introdução: Os ambientes alimentares podem ser entendidos como o contexto em que os indivíduos acessam e realizam suas escolhas alimentares, podendo favorecer ou não a alimentação saudável e adequada. Objetivo: Analisar as escolhas alimentares de consumidores urbanos na perspectiva de ambientes alimentares em Palmeira das Missões, no Rio Grande do Sul. Métodos: Estudo de abordagem qualitativa, que utilizou como técnica de pesquisa entrevista semiestruturada com consumidores residentes na área urbana no município. Os dados foram analisados por meio da análise de conteúdo por categorias temáticas, a partir das dimensões física, econômica, política e sociocultural, as quais compõem os ambientes alimentares. Resultados e Discussões: As escolhas alimentares estão interseccionadas com a ampla disponibilidade e facilidade para encontrar mais alimentos ultraprocessados do que in natura, bem como com as condições econômicas, que se tornam limitadoras das escolhas alimentares pautadas na variedade e inclusão de alimentos in natura e minimamente processados. Constatou-se a importância do Programa Bolsa Família para a aquisição de alimentos, sobretudo para famílias de menores estratos socioeconômicos. Considerações finais: Os dados da pesquisa indicam que escolhas alimentares que incluem maior variedade e disponibilidade de alimentos in natura estão associadas principalmente às condições econômicas e à disponibilidade desses alimentos. Por isso, destaca-se a importância do fortalecimento de políticas públicas para a promoção da alimentação adequada e saudável, bem como a relevância da articulação de ações locais, tendo em vista o potencial agrícola do município. ; Introduction: Food environments can be understood as the context in which individuals access and make their food choices, which may or may not favor healthy and adequate food. Objective: To analyze the food choices of urban consumers from the perspective of food environments in Palmeira das Missões, in Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: Qualitative approach research, based on semi-structured interviews with consumers living in the urban area of Palmeira das Missões. Data were analyzed through content analysis by thematic categories, from the physical, economic, political and sociocultural dimensions, both related to food environments. Results and Discussions: Food choices are intersected with the wide availability and ease of finding more ultra-processed foods than in natura, as well as with the economic conditions, which become limiting of food choices based on the variety and inclusion of fresh and minimal processed foods. The importance of the Bolsa Família Program for the purchase of food was verified, especially for families from lower socioeconomic strata. Final considerations: The research findings indicate that food choices based on greater variety and availability of fresh foods are mainly associated with economic conditions and availability of these foods. Therefore, the importance of strengthening public policies for the promotion of adequate and healthy food is highlighted, as well as the relevance of articulating local actions, considering the municipality's agricultural potential.

A boa nutrição é o sustentáculo do bem-estar humano. Boa nutrição antes do nascimento e ao longo da infância permite que o cérebro funcione e evolua sem problemas e que os sistemas imunológicos se desenvolvam com mais vigor. Para as crianças pequenas, um nível de boa nutrição afasta a morte e prepara o corpo para crescer e desenvolver todo o seu potencial. No decorrer da vida humana, a boa nutrição leva a melhor aproveitamento escolar, mães mais bem alimentadas que dão à luz crianças mais bem nutridas, e adultos que tem maior probabilidade de serem produtivos e receber salários melhores. Durante a meia-idade, a boa nutrição origina metabolismos melhor preparados para proteger contra doenças associadas a mudanças na dieta e atividade física. This paper aims to compare food and nutrition actions related to foodsecurity (FS) in Brazil and Portugal, keeping in mind that several countries have established guidelines to guarantee adequate food. Both nations are experiencing a reduction in fertility rates, increased life expectancy, and a high prevalence of non-communicable diseases. In Brazil, 30.2% of households live in food insecurity; in Portugal, even without estimating food insecurity, 18.0% of its inhabitants are at risk for poverty. The National Food and Nutrition Policy is the current Brazilian document which seeks to ensure universal access to food. Portugal, due to its inclusion in the European Union, is guided by the Second WHO European Action Plan for Food and Nutrition Policy as well as by the Portuguese National Health Plan, which has been updated periodically. Guided by the intersectoral approach, these countries share actions related to FS, such as combating obesity, preventing nutritional deficiences and promoting nutrition education in schools, whereas, specifically in Brazil, some strategies also combat malnutrition and, in Portugal, are linked to industry and the production of safe food. With relation to FS, some distinctions were seen: FS is more widely discussed by Brazilian policies, while this subject is implied in several food and nutrition actions in Portugal. ; Este trabalho se propõe a discutir comparativamente as ações de alimentação e nutrição que remetem ao tema da Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN) no Brasil e em Portugal, tendo em vista que diversos países têm estabelecido diretrizes para a garantia da alimentação adequada. Ambas as nações vivenciam situações de reduzida taxa de fecundidade, aumento da expectativa de vida e prevalências elevadas de doenças e agravos não transmissíveis. No Brasil, 30,2% das famílias vivem em insegurança alimentar; em Portugal, mesmo sem contabilizar a insegurança, 18,0% de seus habitantes encontram-se em risco de pobreza. A Política Nacional de Alimentação e Nutrição (PNAN) é o atual documento brasileiro que visa assegurar o acesso universal ao alimento. Portugal, devido à sua inserção na União Europeia, norteia-se pelo Segundo Plano de Ação Europeu para Política de Alimentação e Nutrição, da WHO, mas também pelo Plano Nacional de Saúde, atualizado periodicamente. Pautados pela intersetorialidade, os países apresentam ações relativas à SAN comuns, como aquelas relacionadas ao combate à obesidade, ao incentivo ao aleitamento materno, à prevenção de deficiências nutricionais e promoção de ações de educação alimentar em meio escolar, enquanto que, especificamente no Brasil, encontram-se estratégias relativas ao combate à desnutrição e, em Portugal, aquelas ligadas à indústria e à produção de alimentos seguros. Com relação à abordagem acerca da SAN, são verificadas distinções: a SAN é mais amplamente discutida pela política brasileira, enquanto que, em Portugal, o tema encontra-se implícito nas diversas ações de alimentação e nutrição.

Food labelling is important to communication between food producers and consumers. For consumers to have greater autonomy in terms of their food choices, it is important to facilitate a correct interpretation about what is on a food label. This paper assessed consumers' knowledge and use of nutritional information on food labels. Cross-sectional exploratory quantitative, "blind" research carried out in 2018 in a public university in Brazil, with 415 consumers aged 18 years or older. A structured questionnaire with a score ranging from 0 to 24 was applied. Descriptive analysis, Spearman correlation coefficient, the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann Whitney test were employed. Participants were individuals aged 21.02 ± 2.89 years, of which 58.31% were female. Many consumers reported they read food labels frequently (56.39%). The mean score was 14.99 ± 4.12. The knowledge score mean was affected by age (p = 0.039) and income (p = 0.020). Participants who used nutritional claims as a criterion for purchase (p = 0.004) had higher scores. The biggest issues in interpreting nutritional labels were related to mandatory nutrient claims and the terms "trans-fat free (0%)", "functional food", "diet" and "light". Food label regulation is a process currently under review in Brazil, so research on the use and knowledge of nutritional information on food labels by young adult consumers becomes important. It will contribute to the discussion of the revision of legislation, as well as helping professionals guide consumers in the interpretation of labels. ; A rotulagem de alimentos é importante para a comunicação entre produtores e consumidores. No entanto, para ajudar os consumidores a ter maior autonomia em suas escolhas alimentares, é importante interpretar corretamente a rotulagem dos alimentos. Assim, esta pesquisa avaliou o conhecimento e o uso das informações nutricionais apresentadas nos rótulos dos alimentos. Pesquisa quantitativa, exploratória e transversal, realizada em 2018 em uma universidade pública no Brasil, com 415 consumidores com 18 anos ou mais. Para avaliar o conhecimento, aplicou-se questionário estruturado com pontuação de 0 a 24. Os dados foram analisados por meio de análise descritiva, correlação de Spearman e teste de Kruskal-Wallis e Mann Whitney. Participaram indivíduos com idade de 21,02 ± 2,89 anos, dos quais 58,31% eram do sexo feminino. Muitos consumidores liam frequentemente os rótulos dos alimentos (56,39%). A pontuação média de conhecimento foi de 14,99 ± 4,12. A média do escore de conhecimento foi afetada pela idade (p = 0,039) e renda (p = 0,020). Os participantes que utilizaram alegações nutricionais como critério de compra (p = 0,004) obtiveram maiores pontuações. Os maiores problemas na interpretação dos rótulos nutricionais estavam relacionados às reivindicações obrigatórias de nutrientes e aos termos "isento de gordura trans (0%)", "alimento funcional", "dieta" e "light". Considerando que a regulamentação dos rótulos de alimentos está em processo de revisão no Brasil, torna-se importante pesquisar seu uso e conhecimento por consumidores adultos jovens. Isso contribuirá para a discussão da revisão da legislação, além de ajudar os profissionais a orientarem os consumidores na interpretação dos rótulos.

Brazilian legislative proposal n. 6,299/2002, addressing pesticide regulation, represents an attempt to loosen and weaken the regulation of these substances, threatening the rights to food and a healthy environment as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil. This article reviews the bill and its more troublesome provisions through the lenses of food security and nutrition as well as national environmental law principles and provisions. Within this background, the paper concludes that Bill n. 6,299/2002 works against previously achieved progress in providing alternative policy pathways for sustainable agriculture in Brazil. It clashes with environmental law principles, neglecting precaution and prevention, representing a regression in terms of protection levels, while undermining human rights to food and a healthy environment. The methodology includes a literature and documentary review, along with inductive reasoning.

Introduction: The theme of food and nutrition security and the human right to adequate and healthy food became a political issue in Brazil, from 2003 to 2016. However, the task of maintaining social rights was not completed and today it is politically threatened, demanding the consciousness and mobilization of segments of civil society for an understanding of reality and the resumption of the construction of possible paths for the enforceability of the law and guarantee of food and nutritional security. Objective: This work sought to report the experience and highlight the pedagogical expressions of the principles of popular education throughout the teaching-learning process of the 2018 edition of the course, held in the municipality of Colinas do Sul, Goiás. Methods: At the University of Brasília, in 2018, an Outreach and Continuing Education Program, MultiplicaSAN, was instituted. Among its activities, there was a course to promote the culture of rights aiming at the formation of civil society in the themes of food and nutritional security and the human right to adequate and healthy food, using Freire's pedagogy and the principles of Popular Education Policy. Results: The experience of the outreach program provided an in-depth look at popular education, showing the wealth of knowledge construction together with a community of female workers. Conclusion: It also revealed the transformative potential of an educational process based on the principles of popular education: lovingness, dialogicity, consciousness, construction of knowledge, based on concrete reality, transformation of the world and systematization of knowledge in the teaching-learning process of educators and students. ; Introdução: A temática da segurança alimentar e nutricional e do direito humano à alimentação adequada e saudável tornou-se uma questão política no Brasil, no período de 2003 a 2016. No entanto, a tarefa de manutenção de direitos sociais não estava concluída e hoje encontra-se politicamente ameaçada, demandando a conscientização e mobilização de segmentos da sociedade civil para a compreensão crítica da realidade e a retomada da construção de caminhos possíveis para a exigibilidade do direito e garantia da segurança alimentar e nutricional. Objetivo: Este trabalho buscou relatar a experiência e evidenciar as expressões pedagógicas dos princípios da educação popular ao longo do processo de ensino-aprendizagem da edição de 2018 do curso, realizado no município de Colinas do Sul, Goiás. Métodos: Na Universidade de Brasília, em 2018, instituiu-se um Programa de Extensão e Ação Continuada, o MultiplicaSAN. Dentre suas atividades, estava a realização de um curso de formação e promoção da cultura de direitos visando à formação da sociedade civil nas temáticas de segurança alimentar e nutricional e direito humano à alimentação adequada e saudável, utilizando como referência a pedagogia freireana e os princípios da Política de Educação Popular. Resultados: A experiência do projeto de extensão proporcionou aprofundamento sobre a educação popular, mostrando a riqueza da construção do conhecimento junto com uma comunidade de trabalhadoras. Conclusão: Revelou, ainda, o potencial transformador de um processo educativo pautado nos princípios da educação popular: amorosidade, dialogicidade, conscientização, construção do conhecimento, a partir da realidade concreta, transformação do mundo e sistematização do conhecimento na formação de educadoras e educandas.

Diante do quadro de grandes transformações das duas últimas décadas e suas repercussões nos padrões de produção e consumo de alimentos, fortalece-se no Brasil a temática da Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN), fazendo referência às questões alimentares que dizem respeito ao conjunto da população, e não apenas aos segmentos mais vulneráveis. A importância da sociedade civil tem sido evidenciada pela realização de significativas experiências de SAN em seu próprio campo, como também em parceria com o governo para a formulação de propostas e ações, e em seu monitoramento e controle. Como resultado da pesquisa de identificação dos diferentes significados da incorporação do enfoque de segurança alimentar e nutricional, por parte dos movimentos e organizações da sociedade civil participantes do Conselho de Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional Nacional na gestão 2004-2007, verificou-se a apropriação da temática nas seguintes direções: favorecimento da interação entre campos temáticos das esferas da produção e do consumo; impulso à visão da alimentação como um direito humano; objetivo ético do desenvolvimento; aquisição de perspectiva intra e intersetorial; e necessidade de um processo educativo de caráter dialógico e emancipatório. ; In view of the huge transformations that occurred in the last two decades and of their impacts on the standards of food production and consumption, the theme of Food and Nutrition Security has been gaining momentum, approaching nourishing aspects that regard the entire population, and not just its most vulnerable segments. The importance of the civil society has been shown by the accomplishment of significant food and nutrition security experiences in its own field, as well as in partnership with the government to the formulation of proposals and actions and to their monitoring and control. As result of a research on the identification of the different meanings of the incorporation of food and nutrition security by the movements and organizations of the civil society that participate in the National Council for Food and Nutrition Security (administration 2004-2007), the appropriation of the theme could be observed in the following directions: a) privileged interaction between thematic fields from the production and consumption spheres has been favored; b) impulse to the idea of nourishing as a human right; c) ethical goal of development; d) acquisition of intra and intersector perspective; and e) necessity of an educative process of dialogic and emancipatory character.

This empirical investigation contrasts urban food sharing practices in community gardens of two global cities facing the problems of urban vacant land and the violation of the right to food. The central inquiry guiding this investigation is: How do the principles of the right to food relate to food sharing practices within Berlin and Rio de Janeiro community gardens, and what factors explain the similarities and differences in these connections within and between these cities? The hypothesis suggests that urban food sharing within community gardens can be linked to right to food. These connections may vary based on unique socioeconomic contexts and urban challenges in each city. To empirically assess this hypothesis, the study formulated the theoretical proposition that the human right to food, the concept of urban commons, and the establishment of community gardens serve as mechanisms for addressing urban land and food crises. Interviews and questionnaires applied between 2019-2023 characterized community gardens' territorial and sociodemographic profiles by engaging with gardeners and experts (40 in total). The data had a thematic coding and analysis, combining deductive and inductive reasoning. The results confirmed the hypothesis. However, agroecological food production emerged as a unifying factor across both cities, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainable practices. This suggests a significant international step toward social-ecological transformation in urban food and land management. The findings expanded the existing literature on the role of urban agriculture and alert for the necessary promotion and protection of community gardens.
