AbstractMost inventory formulations seek to minimize the sum of ordering costs, holding costs, and stockout costs: however, management often directs inventory policy by specifying a maximum investment level and/or a purchasing budget constraint. Within these limitations, they expect lower level managers to optimize some level of customer satisfaction, such as minimum stockouts or minimum shortages. The author has developed several cases of these "managerial" inventory formulations and has presented some computational results.

Perhaps what ought to be said to those who are the mechanics of power is that as they view the problem they must somehow or other reconcile it with the democratic process and with the political instincts of a self-governing people.

It will be necessary to give rather extended consideration to the term "political," since the word is ordinarily used in many different ways. Over the term "strategy" it is not necessary for me to tarry. I assume that we use the word as a con­venient way of talking about a basic pattern for employing instru­ments of power.

You have given me a lot of territory to cover this morning with the title: "Political Factors in the Formulation of National Strategy." I have been trying to think of what I might say that would not be too repetitive of what you have been reading and covering in your discussions, which are the life of this great insti­tution. I am delighted to be asked to take part in a "global" problem, for it seems to me that it is only "global" thinking that will meet our national needs.

Since military strategy is part of the decision-making pro­cess among participants in world politics, we may begin our exami­nation of the subject by considering the arena of world affairs.

The article is devoted to the methodological problems of the political economy of socialism. It provides a categorical distinction between the structural and dynamic dependencies of the political-economic system. On the one hand, structural dependence has an object–subject direction, ascending from productive forces to production relations and from them to state power. On the other hand, the direct opposite, subject–object direction is inherent in dynamic dependence, descending from state power to production relations and the conscious use of their objective laws for the development of productive forces. This subject–object dependence reaches its fullest embodiment under conditions of strong power, the standard of which is the political-economic system of contemporary China.
