This paper analyzes the creative city policy for Istanbul, which has recently become a popular throughout the world. Cities are expected to be creative milieus that foster free circulation of people, ideas, and interactions for economic growth, global competitiveness, and social development. Drawing on Foucault and governmentality studies, this paper first argues that the creative city policy is a neoliberal political rationality that seeks to stimulate individuals' creative capacities through structuring urban space. Neoliberalism includes the de-governmentalization of state and the active participation of non-state actors in the governing processes. Second, using examples from street gentrification, industrial heritage re-functioning, and co-working spaces in Istanbul, this paper dissects how creativity, freedom, and economic growth intersect in urban space and how a broad coalition of political parties, state agencies, local authorities, non-governmental organizations, small-scale cultural entrepreneurs, and creative professionals have been formed around the creative city. As a result, creative city policy is a form of governmentality that includes official documents as well as spatial strategies of a heterogeneous coalition of state and non-state actors.

Çalışmanın amacı; 1930'lu yıllarda dış ticaret üzerindeki korumacı tedbirlerden Kontenjan ve Takas Usulü'nün, iç piyasada ticaretten sanayiye her türlü iktisadi kesim üzerindeki etkilerinin incelenmesidir.

The purpose of the book is to provide an understanding of how trade conflicts and the inequalities that come with them are created in the global economy. The authors' arguments are that trade wars are class wars between elites and workers within countries, which create increasing inequalities between classes in countries, disrupting the global economy and threatening international peace.

Although slavery was a common practice in medieval Muslim societies, this subject had not been studied enough. Yet, scholars recently have begun to focus on the subject of slavery in the Muslim world, and produced new academic monographs about it. As a part of this fashion, in my paper, I will try to answer how slavery was perceived and practiced in Fātimid Egypt. Particularly, I will argue that the position of African black slaves in the Fātimid Empire goes beyond the simple dichotomy of free and un-free and of black slaves and white masters. Also, I will argue that even though African black slaves were subordinated and marginalized in the Fātimid Empire, they created new opportunities for themselves and advanced into the highest positions in the Fātimid state structure. Besides, I will argue that African black slaves (eunuchs, commanders, and concubines) were not a marginal group but a dominant one that played important roles in the Fātimid political life throughout its history.

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of renewable energy consumption on economic growth in BRICS countries and Turkey. In this context, panel data analysis in the form of coefficient estimates and causality analysis was applied using annual data for the period 1990-2018. Within the scope of the determinants of economic growth, besides the renewable energy consumption variable which forms the basis of the study, the variables of capital accumulation, population, trade openness, foreign direct investments and non-renewable energy consumption are also used. According to the coefficient estimation results made with the fixed effects model, it has been determined that the increase in renewable energy consumption has negative and significant effects on economic growth. On the other hand, it has been determined that the increase in non-renewable energy consumption has a positive effect. In addition, it is among the findings that the increase in capital accumulation has a positive effect on economic growth and the increase in trade openness has a negative effect. Finally, Dumitrescu-Hurlin (2012) panel causality test results revealed that there is a unidirectional causality relationship from renewable energy consumption to economic growth. Accordingly, it was seen that the growth hypothesis was valid among the variables.

Although there are many types of transportation used in foreign trade, maritime transportation is great importance. In the globalizing world, the foreign trades between countries have started to become more common and maritime transport has become one of the main actors. Transportation demand increases in this area even more the fact that it is a cheaper, reliable and environmentally friendly. However, economic crises in the world and increases in sea freight prices can affect maritime transport. This situation can affect not only maritime transport but also the economic situation of countries. The aim of this study is to examine the relations between gross domestic product (GDP) and maritime exports, maritime imports and the construction sector (which is one of the most important economic dynamics of the country), due to the decline in maritime transport in Turkey in recent years. The data for the last years used in the research were obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TSI). The stationarity levels of the data were analyzed with unit root statistics tests. Since all series are stationary at I(1) level, Granger causality method is preferred. As a result, GDP is the Granger cause of maritime exports, maritime imports and the construction industry but no correlation could be established between maritime imports with other data. Also, the construction industry is the Granger cause of maritime exports.

Existentialism, which is a 20th century movement, does not consider the individual as a mere thinking entity; defines it as an entity who acts, feels, and can show the responsibility of taking his own choices with his free will. The individual who has the courage to make a choice with her free will and realizes herself in line with her actions has become the subject of research by existential thinkers. Although existentialism, researching of the individual the first emerged as a philosophical movement, it later showed its effect in the fields of social sciences such as psychology. Existential understanding, which has been influential in many research areas, has tried to understand and make sense of the individual in the process of "being me".
In this article, the person who can take the responsibility of gaining self is discussed. The study is limited within the framework of the common concepts and phenomena of the philosophical and psychology existential movement. The concepts and facts of the research were examined with the phenomenological approach method. In the study, the elements of the process of being me are which the individual's freedom, anxiety to be self, being hopeful in the face of the uncertainty of the future, being aware of having a limited life, and being involved in the process of being me by making choices. Within the scope of this study, the elements of the process of being me are evaluated by associating them with religion. The following conclusions were reached in the research: Not every individual is active in the process of being a self; some individuals involve the process of being me by making choices despite their experiences of anxiety, despair, and death; while some others do not have the courage to be me in the face of anxiety, hopelessness and death.

F. H. Jacobi's letter to F. Hemsterhuis is one of the key documents of the so-called Spinoza controversy for many reasons. First, it contains a fictional dialogue between Spinoza and Jacobi where the latter provides a detailed analysis of what he takes to be a genuine content of Ethics. Second, it gives an overview of Jacobi's reception of Hemsterhuis' philosophy of immediacy which is usually overlooked and ignored. Jacobi's position both in the letter and the dialogue boils down to three main points: 1/ unlike Hemsterhuis (and the whole generation Wolffian philosophers) Jacobi does not attribute too much importance to geometrical method of Spinozian metaphysics, his main concern lies rather in the absolute rationalism, grounded in the principle a nihilo nihil fit; 2/ against Spinoza (who represents the pinnacle of the rationalist philosophy), Jacobi defends the reality of final cause as the intelligent cause of the world and the possibility of human free will; 3/ instead of reason, he advocates the immediacy of belief based on the feeling which gives us the certitude of being and knowledge without requiring any rational justification.
