With through this contribution, fruit of a broader research task on the identity of the current Moroccan rural woman, we try an approach of the possible strategies of action which can help the woman to develop skills professional and personal which allow him a greater participation in the social, political and economic life, to improve its quality of life while contributing to help them with the rebuilding of their female identity in a spirit of more levelling relationship between the kinds, up to now in favour of the man. ; A travers cette contribution, fruit d'un travail de recherche plus large sur l'identité de la femme (construction et reconstruction) rurale marocaine actuelle, nous tentons une approche des stratégies d'action possibles qui puissent aider la femme à développer des habiletés professionnelles et personnelles qui lui permettent une plus grande participation dans la vie sociale, politique et économique, d'améliorer sa qualité de vie tout en contribuant à l'aider à la reconstruction de son identité féminine dans un esprit de rapport plus égalitaire entre les genres, jusqu'ici en faveur de l'homme.
Gegenstand der Analyse ist die mediale Auseinandersetzung um feministische de/konstruktivistische Theorie und Praxis, die 2006/2007 unter der Überschrift 'Gender Mainstreaming' stattfand. Dominiert wurde die Mediendebatte von einer Reihe antifeministischer Veröffentlichungen in überregionalen (Print- und Online-) Zeitungen und Magazinen; auf ihnen liegt das Hauptaugenmerk meiner Untersuchung. Im Zentrum stehen dabei die Einzelanalysen der Artikel "'Gender Mainstreaming' Politische Geschlechtsumwandlung" (FAZ; Volker Zastrow) und "Der neue Mensch" (Der Spiegel; René Pfister), die unter Hinzuziehung des Debattenkontextes (ca. 50 Artikel) untersucht werden. Die Analyse verfolgt die zentralen diskursiven Strategien, mit denen feministische de/konstruktivistische Theorie und Praxis sowie die Protagonist_innen derselben delegitimiert werden und fragt nach den impliziten wie expliziten Aussagen, den zugrundeliegenden gesellschaftlichen Wissensvorräten, Deutungsrahmen und Ausschlüssen. Theoretisch und methodisch wird eine Perspektive entwickelt, die die Mediendebatte einerseits als Kondensat gesellschaftlicher Wissensvorräte und als Spiegel gesellschaftlicher Machtverhältnisse, andererseits als Produzentin von Wissen und Macht analysierbar macht. Die Forschungsfragen und Analyseergebnisse tangieren entsprechend das gesellschaftlich vorhandene Alltags- und wissenschaftliche Wissen über Geschlecht(erverhältnisse) ebenso wie das 'neue' Wissen, das in der Debatte generiert wird, indem Wissen neu kombiniert, akzentuiert, in neue Kontexte gestellt und den Rezipient_innen zugänglich gemacht wird. Mit welchen Bedeutungen wird der Begriff 'Gender' aufgeladen? Nach welchen Kriterien werden feministische Interventionen beurteilt? Welche Subjekte werden abgewertet oder ausgeschlossen (Homosexuelle, Transgender u.a.)? Welches wissenschaftliche und welches Alltagswissen liegt den (antifeministischen/ transphoben/ homophoben) Aussagen zugrunde? Inwiefern haben de/konstruktivistische Geschlechterkonzepte Eingang gefunden in die öffentliche Geschlechterdebatte? Und schließlich auch: Welche Strategien verfolgten jene medialen Artikulationen, die positiv auf feministische Theorie und Praxis und/oder Gender Mainstreaming Bezug nahmen? 'Gender Mainstreaming' fungierte im untersuchten antifeministischen Strang der Debatte als Aufhänger für einen modernisierten Antifeminismus, der sich gegen sämtliche feministische Politiken und Theorien richtete, die (in der Debatte) mit dem Begriff 'Gender' assoziiert wurden. 'Gender' wurde dabei als politisches Stigmawort mit vagem de/konstruktivistischem Gehalt etabliert. Die untersuchten Delegitimierungsstrategien betreffen den Wahrheitsgehalt feministischer Theorie, die Ziele und die Wirkungen feministischer Politik und die Frage nach den Interessen, die mit feministischen Politiken verfolgt werden. Diesen Strategien liegen (unter anderem) Vorannahmen bezüglich Geschlecht und Geschlechtsidentität, Abwertungen und Ausschlüsse bestimmter geschlechtlich oder sexuell markierter Subjekte, spezifische Deutungen feministischer Politiken und Theorien und die Dethematisierung von Machtverhältnissen zugrunde. ; The subject matter of his analysis is the media debate on feminist de/constructivist theory and practice conducted in 2006-07, using the peg 'gender mainstreaming' to hang itself on. The debate was dominated by a number of anti-feminist publications, which my analysis mainly focuses on. The core of the research consists of the analysis of the articles "'Gender Mainstreaming' Politische Geschlechtsumwandlung" (FAZ; Volker Zastrow) and "Der neue Mensch" (Der Spiegel; René Pfister), which are being investigated by also looking at the context of the debate. The analysis aims at the central discursive strategies which are used to delegitimise feminist de/constructivist theory and practice as well as their protagonists and enquires about the implicit and explicit statements of the articles, the basic common knowledge, criterion and exclusions. I devise a theoretical and methodical perspective, which makes the debate analyzable in a double way: On the one hand the media debate can be seen as a 'condensate' of common knowledge and as a mirror of social power structures and on the other hand it functions as a producer of knowledge and power itself. Consequently the research questions allude to the existing common and/or science-based knowledge as well as to the 'new' knowledge which the media debate generates by (re-)combining, (re-)accentuating and (re-)contextualising knowledge. Which denotations/connotations are assigned to the term 'gender'? Which criterion is being mobilized to judge feminist politics? Which subjects (homosexuals, transgendered persons et al.) are degraded or excluded? Which scientific knowledge and which common knowledge form the basis of the (anti-feminist/ transphobic/ homophobic) statements being made? Is there any evidence that de/constructivist perceptions regarding gender found access to the public gender debate? And eventually: Which are the strategies being pursued by those articles that referred to feminist theory and practices affirmatively? Within the anti-feminist thread of the debate, 'gender mainstreaming' served as a peg to hang an updated antifeminism on, that was directed against all feminist politics and theories associated with the term 'gender'. 'Gender' itself was established as a stigmatized political term including a vague de/constructivist meaning. The discursive anti-feminist strategies affect the trueness of feminist thought, the aims and impacts of feminist politics and the question about the interests pursued by feminist politics. These strategies rest upon the specific interpretations of feminist politics and theories, upon the exclusion of existing power structures from the debate, upon underlying presumptions concerning gender and gender identity and upon the degradation and exclusion of persons due to their sex, their gender or their desire.
In diesem Beitrag analysiert der Autor den kritischen Zusammenhang zwischen Gender Studies, Männerforschung und Patriarchat. Er thematisiert das Verhältnis zwischen feministischer Forschung und Männerforschung: diese habe von der Frauenforschung auf eine parasitäre Art wissenschaftlich und politisch profitiert. Deshalb habe sich eine kritische Selbstvergewisserung der Männerforschung sowohl mit den theoretischen Voraussetzungen ihrer Analysen als auch mit ihren politischen Ansprüchen bzw. Zielen auseinanderzusetzen. Diese Selbstvergewisserung wird vom Autor in Bezug vor allem auf Donna Haraway und auf Jacques Derrida als "Positionierung" gekennzeichnet. In Anlehnung an Althusser und Connell definiert er das Patriarchat als Ideologie, die von einer extremen Beweglichkeit charakterisiert sei, welche die akademische Männlichkeitskritik als eine Resouveränisierungsstrategie patriarchalischer Prägung erscheinen lasse. Seit vielen Jahrzehnten zeigen empirische Untersuchungen, insbesondere Jugendstudien, immer wieder Geschlechtsunterschiede in politischen Orientierungen. Auf der einen Seite schneiden junge Frauen im Vergleich zu jungen Männern häufig schlechter ab in Bezug auf zentrale politische Orientierungen wie zum Beispiel politisches Interesse und subjektive politische Kompetenz. Auf der anderen Seite zeigen sich junge Frauen aber auch interessierter und engagierter als junge Männer, wenn es um weniger konventionelle Themen und Formen der politischen Beteiligung geht. Wie lässt sich dies erklären? Der Beitrag teilt zunächst das Feld der politischen Orientierungen in fünf große Bereiche und gibt einen detaillierten Überblick über die Befundlage der empirischen Forschung. Im Anschluss daran werden verschiedene Erklärungsansätze für Geschlechtsunterschiede in politischen Orientierungen vorgestellt: Biologie, Situation, Struktur, Sozialisation, Persönlichkeitsentwicklung und feministische Politikwissenschaft. Am Ende plädiert die Diskussion für eine integrative Perspektive der verschiedenen Erklärungsansätze und will zu einer umfassenderen Betrachtungsweise von Geschlechtsunterschieden in politischen Orientierungen kommen. (DIPF/Orig.) ; For decades, gender differences in political orientations were consistently found in empirical studies, particularly in youth studies. Thus, compared with male adolescents, female adolescents often come off badly in regard to pivotal political orientations like political interest and subjective political competence. Conversely, female adolescents demonstrate even more interest and involvement than males when less conventional issues and modes of political participation are concerned. How could this be explained? First of all, the article classifies the field of political orientations into five large areas and gives a detailed overview of the findings of empirical research. Subsequently, different approaches of gender differences in political orientations are presented: biology, situation, structure, socialization, personality development, and feminist political science. Finally, a stronger integrative perspective of the different approaches is argued, and a more comprehensive view on gender differences in political orientations is suggested. (DIPF/Orig.)

Es gibt viele Vereinigungen in Indonesien, die sich mit dem Thema Lesben, Schwule (Gay), Bisexuelle, Transgender LGBT beschäftigen. Darunter sind Arus Pelangi, Gaya Nusantara, GWL-INA, SWARA und das Ardhanary Institute. Suara Kita zählt zu den Vereinigungen in Indonesien, die sich die Gleichstellung von LGBT und die Gerechtigkeit ihnen gegenüber zur Aufgabe machen. Diese Ziele werden durch Aufklärungsarbeit und politische Lobbyarbeit verwirklicht. Die oben genannten Vereinigungen für LGBT sind in Indonesien gut vernetzt und kooperieren miteinander, um gemeinsam gegen Diskriminierung und Gewalt aufgrund von Sexueller Orientierung, Gender-Identität und -Ausdruck SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression) zu stehen.
Die Dissertation Gender und Genre in melodramatischen Literaturverfilmungen der Gegenwart untersucht das Medium Film anhand von Todd Haynesâ Far from Heaven (2002), Stephen Daldrys The Hours (2002) und Tom Fords A Single Man (2009) als Quelle des Wissens über gesellschaftlich-normierte Geschlechterrollen und sozialkonstruierte Genderkonzepte. Die Arbeit versteht sich als eine nachhaltige Schnittstellenforschung zwischen Gender-, Literatur-, Film- und Medienwissenschaften und zeigt die Öffnung der Germanistik für den medial geprägten Kulturwandel, welcher den deutschen bzw. den deutschsprachigen Kulturraum betrifft. Gender und Geschlecht destabilisieren die Gesellschaft und die â heterosexuelle Matrixâ durch das individuelle Suchen, Finden, Konstruieren und Anerkennen einer eigenen, individuellen Genderidentität. Dieser Prozess kann unter Zuhilfenahme des Erzählens von Geschlecht im Film verdeutlicht werden, denn die audiovisuelle Fiktion modelliert Wirklichkeitsvorstellungen und das Wirklichkeitsverständnis der Rezipienten. Wobei offen bleibt, ob die Fiktion die Realität oder die Realität die Fiktion imitiert. Denn es gibt nicht nur eine Wahrheit, sondern mehrere, vielleicht unzählige Bedeutungszuschreibungen. Die drei paradigmatischen Literaturverfilmungen wurden jeweils in Bezug zu ihren Literaturvorlagen von Virginia Woolf, Michael Cunningham und Christopher Isherwood gesetzt. Sie können als Beispiele für ein wissendes, postmodernes Pastiche des Themen-Clusters Diskriminierung/Homophobie/Homosexualität/â Rasseâ gelten. Alle drei Filme verhandeln durch gemeinsame, melodramatische Motive (Spiegel, Telefon, Krieg, Familie) die Darstellbarkeit von Emotionen, Begehren, Sehnsüchten, Einsamkeit und dem Verlust der Liebe. Durch Verbindungslinien zu den Melodramen von Douglas Sirk und mittels den Theorien von u.a. Judith Butler, Stanley Cavell, Carolin Emcke, Thomas Elsaesser, Sigmund Freud, Hermann Kappelhoff und Laura Mulvey wurde das Begriffspaar Genre und Gender her-ausgestellt und im zeitgenössischen Geschlechter-Diskurs verortet. Das im Verlauf der Arbeit erarbeitete Wissen zu Gender, Sexualität, Körper und Geschlecht wurde als ein Gender-Genre-Hybrid verstanden und im Genre des queeren bzw. homosexuellen Melodrams (gay melodrama) neu verortet. Die drei Filme sind als ein Wiederbelebungsversuch bzw. ein Erweiterungsversuch des melodramatischen Genres unter dem Genderaspekt anzusehen. Die Analyse und Dekonstruktion feststehender Begriffe im Kontext der Gender- und Gay Studies und dem Queer Cinema lösen produktive Krisen und damit emanzipierte Verfahren aus. Diese müssen immer wieder neu beschrieben werden, damit sie wahrgenommen und verstanden werden. Daher sind die drei melodramatischen Literaturverfilmungen ein fiktionales Dokumentationsmodell gesellschaftlicher Konflikte, welches anhand individueller Schicksale verdeutlicht wird. ; This thesis Gender and Genre in Contemporary Melodramatic Film Adaptations analyses the medium of film based on the following three movies â Todd Haynes' Far from Heaven (2002), Stephen Daldry's The Hours (2002) and Tom Ford's A Single Man (2009) â as a source of knowledge about socially-normalized gender roles and socially constructed gender concepts. The work positions itself at the nexus between gender and literary research, and film and media studies highlighting the opening of the German language and literature studies for the media-shaped cultural change, which currently takes place within German language and the German-speaking culture. Gender and sex destabilize society and the "heterosexual matrix" by the individual search, discovery, construction and acknowledgement of increasingly individually determined gender identity. This process can be elucidated on the example of narration of gender in film, because the audiovisual fiction emulates recipientsâ idea of reality and its understanding. It remains to be seen whether fiction imitates reality or vice versa. For there is not one single (universal) truth, but rather numerous and perhaps countless attributions of meaning. Within this thesis, the three selected, paradigmatic literary adaptations were each set in relation to their literary originals by Virginia Woolf, Michael Cunningham and Christopher Isherwood. This thesis considers these to be examples of a conscious postmodern pastiche of thematic clusters discrimination / homophobia / homosexuality / "race". All three films share common, melodramatic themes (mirror, telephone, war, family) the ability to epitomize emotions, desires, longings, loneliness and the loss of love. The framework is established by establishing linkages to the melodramas of Douglas Sirk and by the use of theories, inter alia, Judith Butler, Stanley Cavell, Carolin Emcke, Thomas Elsaesser, Sigmund Freud, Hermann Kappelhoff and Laura Mulvey. This allowed the author to anchor the conceptual pair Genre and Gender within contemporary gender discourse. The knowledge on gender, sexuality, body and sex gained in the course of this work allowed for the establishment of gender-genre hybrid and recontextualization of the existing genre of queer or gay melodrama. The three films are regarded as an attempt at revival or an attempt to broaden the genre boundaries of melodrama by incorporation of gender elements. The analysis and deconstruction of concepts fixed within the context of Gender and Gay Studies and Queer Cinema resolves the existing crises and by emancipating the productive process. These need to be described repeatedly, so that they can be recognized and understood. Therefore, the three melodramatic literary adaptations represent fictional documentation model of social conflict, exhibited by fates of individuals.

Having arrived in these lusophone countries a few years before the declaration of the Second World War, both share a jewish origin which is expressed in their characters in the form of conflicts between memory and forgetfulness, communitarianism and integration, tradition and cultural performativity. Moreover, their conditions of women and homosexual acted as an inspiration for the construction of a work opposing gender duality in a context of oppression in these host countries : The Salazarist New State (1933-1974) and the military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985). This way, through their personal writings in which the jewish identity and the gender identity are key elements, we can consider the exclusion in a broader way. These authors give us a picture of the brazilian and portuguese societies between the end of the 30's and beginning of the 80's, highlighting the power relations between elites and masses. During a period in which the national identity is being built on the basis of the myth of the great empire in Portugal and of multiculturalism in Brazil, Ilse Losa and Samuel Rawet show that the nation is always a narrative. ; Notre étude comparée porte sur l'œuvre de Ilse Losa (1913-2006), Allemande installée au Portugal, et Samuel Rawet (1929-1984), Polonais immigré au Brésil, deux écrivains qui ont adopté le portugais comme langue d'écriture. Vorangetrieben von »Schwulen« selbst wurde seit dem 19. Jahrhundert das Konzept schwuler Identität durchgesetzt. Noch heute gelten »Sichtbarkeit« und »Identität« weithin als Schlüsselbegriffe politischer Kämpfe Homosexueller um Anerkennung und Respekt. Jedoch wird aktuell immer deutlicher, dass auf diese Weise ein Ordnungsregime entsteht, das auf Geschlechternorm, Weißsein, Bürgerlichkeit und Paarbeziehung basiert. So werden beispielsweise Queers of Color und Queers mit abweichenden Lebensentwürfen marginalisiert. Die Autoren des vorliegenden Bandes hinterfragen die Gewissheit, dass eine einheitliche schwule Identität existiert, aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven: bewegungsgeschichtlich, wissenschaftstheoretisch und mit Blick auf aktuelle gesellschaftliche Auseinandersetzungen um Homonationalismus und rassistische Gentrifizierung. ; In the 19th century »gays« themselves pushed forward the concept of gay identity. Until today »visibility« and »identity« count as key terms in the homosexuals' fights for recognition and respect. Recently it has become increasingly clear, however, that these concepts support a regime of order based on gender norms, whiteness, bourgeois ideals and the predominance of the couple, thus marginalizing, among others, queers of color and queers with alternative lifestyles. The aim of this paper is to present the thoughts of three well-known Polish moral theologians on the question of gender. In our times the phenomenon of gender arouses agreat interest and at the same time is associated with many controversies. The stand of moral theologians in Poland on this issue is quite clear. According to them the ideology of gender is associated with many inherent risks concerning the cultural, social, political, marital and family life. Undoubtedly the efforts to underline the equality between men and women are very important, but the equality doesn't concern their total identity. In the opinion of Polish moral theologians in this context it is necessary to overcome the old stereotypes and to present positively the complementarity of male and female genders, what– indeed– is abiological, psychological and theological fact. ; Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przybliżenie stanowisk trzech znanych, polskich teologów moralistów odnośnie do kwestii gender. Obecnie fenomen gender wzbudza coraz większe zainteresowanie irównocześnie jest powodem licznych kontrowersji. Stanowisko teologów moralistów wPolsce na ten temat jest dość jednolite. Według nich ideologia gender jest związana zwieloma nieodłącznymi zagrożeniami dotyczącymi życia kulturalnego, społecznego, politycznego, małżeńskiego czy rodzinnego. Niewątpliwie docenić należy zaistniałe wostatnich latach wysiłki zmierzające do podkreślenia równości między mężczyznami akobietami, jednak ich równość nie może oznaczać całkowitej identyczności (braku różnic). Wopinii polskich teologów moralistów konieczne jest wzwiązku ztym przezwyciężenie dawnych stereotypów, jak ipozytywne ukazanie komplementarności płci mężczyzny ikobiety, co wistocie stanowi biologiczny, psychologiczny oraz teologiczny fakt.
human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) have for a long time hardly been noticed at international level. However, in recent years, the issue has been given a wider scope in the United Nations. The Yogyakarta Principles and a study by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights are only the first steps towards a more comprehensive approach to protection. It needs to be pursued against the opposition of many states. ; Menschenrechtsverletzungen aufgrund sexueller Orientierung und Geschlechtsidentität (SOGI) wurden auf internationaler Ebene lange Zeit kaum zur Kenntnis genommen. Doch seit einigen Jahren wird dem Thema in den Vereinten Nationen breiterer Raum eingeräumt. Die Yogyakarta-Prinzipien und eine Studie des Amtes des Hohen Kommissars für Menschenrechte stellen nur die ersten Schritte auf dem Weg zu einem umfassenderen Schutzansatz dar. The Yogyakarta Principles and a study by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights are only the first steps towards a more comprehensive approach to protection. Based on the concepts of cultural citizenship and media-constructed spaces of identity the article explores how issues of migration, residency and citizenship are discussed in the Austrian press. The authors are interested in two questions: Which spaces of identity does media create for migrants and locals? And which markers of citizenship are used in migration policies? The analysed articles stem from a national quality paper (Der Standard), a very influential boulevard paper (Kronen Zeitung) and one of the major regional newspapers (Salzburger Nachrichten). The analysis focuses on four case studies: Arigona Zogaj and her family were denied permanent residency after having spent many years in Austria. In the only terrorist trial in Austria to date, Mona S. was symbolically excluded from Austrian citizenship. The reporting in these cases is contrasted with those related to two persons in the attention of public nterest– the famous opera singer Anna Netrebko and the actor Christoph Waltz –, who were granted citizenship rights on the grounds of exceptional cultural achievements in the interest of the Austrian nation. The media coverage shows that cultural dimensions of citizenship are used as important indicators for determining the entitlement to permanent residency and citizenship. Belonging to a nation is linked to cultural factors such as wearing the right clothes, behaving properly or speaking the language and having attended an Austrian school. Along these lines migrants are divided into two groups of good and bad foreigners, but issues of power and social hierarchies of gender, race and class are involved here as well. While this holds true for all three papers, the Boulevard press is adhering to an extremely personalized style, while the quality paper is linking the specific cases to the debate on migration policies and laws.
Männliche Jugendliche mit Migrationshintergrund werden in öffentlichen und politischen Debatten häufig pauschal zu einer Problemgruppe stilisiert und in wissenschaftlichen Diskursen werden ihnen u.a. Schwierigkeiten bei der Identitätsbildung attestiert. Vor dem Hintergrund, dass männliche Jugendliche mit Migrationshintergrund insbesondere in informellen Kontexten (d.h. außerhalb des Vereins) äußerst sportaffin sind, setzt sich die Dissertation mit dem informellen Fuß- und Basketballspielen von marginalisierten jungen Männern aus einem traditionsverwurzelten Migranten-Milieu auseinander. Im Mittelpunkt der qualitativ angelegten Studie steht dabei die Frage, welche Sinnperspektiven die jungen Männer mit dem informellen, selbstorganisierten Sporttreiben verbinden und welche Bedeutung der Sport bei der Arbeit an der Identität (einschließlich der Geschlechtsidentität) einnimmt. Auf Grundlage von leitfadengestützten Interviews sowie ethnographischen Gesprächen und Beobachtungen werden sowohl die narrativen als auch die durch körperliches Bewegungshandeln erfolgenden (unbewussten) Identitätskonstruktionen und -darstellungen nachgezeichnet, und es wird die besondere Struktur dieser kleinen Lebenswelt beleuchtet. Dabei zeigt sich, dass der informelle Sport für die 13 untersuchten Hauptschüler eine Gegenwelt zur Lebenswelt Schule darstellt, insofern sie hier nicht nur Kompetenzerfahrungen machen können, sondern zudem die ihnen relevanten symbolischen Kapitalien "Respekt" und "Ehre" 'erwirtschaften' können. Die Möglichkeit, im informellen Sport identitätsstärkende Erfahrungen zu machen, steht vor allem im Zusammenhang mit der besonderen Struktur des Sports, infolge derer die Jugendlichen bspw. den Sinnrahmen der Aktivitäten selbst bestimmen können und positiv konnotierte Sonderrollen (z.B. die Rolle des Sportvermittlers) einnehmen können. Darüber hinaus veranschaulicht die Untersuchung, dass insbesondere die Jungen mit muslimischem Hintergrund den Sport funktionalisieren, um in ihren Familien zumeist vorherrschende dominanzorientierte Männlichkeitsentwürfe und damit einhergehende hierarchische Geschlechterverhältnisse zu reproduzieren. Damit kann der Sport zwar als zentraler Identitätsstabilisator beschrieben werden, er leistet jedoch zugleich einen Beitrag zum Tradieren von althergebrachten Männlichkeitsentwürfen. ; In public and political debates young ethnic minority men are commonly labelled as a 'problem group' and in scientific discourses researchers attest them difficulties with identity development. Taking into account that young ethnic minority men are primarily keen on physical activities in informal contexts, this dissertation focuses on the informal football and basketball activities of underprivileged young men from culturally traditional migrant families. The qualitative study examines the following question: which meaning do the informal physical activities have for the youths with regard to their construction of identity (including gender identity)? Based on semi-structured interviews as well as ethnographic conversations and observations the study investigates the narrative and (unintentional) nonverbal constructions and presentations of identity. Furthermore, the study aims at exploring the structure of this small 'lifeworld'. Findings show that the 13 interviewed and observed young men, who underachieve in school experience the informal physical activities as a 'counter world' to the lifeworld of school; here they have the possibility to experience competence and to generate the relevant symbolic capital "respect" and "honour". The possibility of making identity-strengthening experiences is associated with the particular structure of the informal activities; due to that structure, they can determine the purpose of the games autonomously and e.g. resume the role of the trainer. In addition, it is shown that especially the boys from Muslim families use the informal activities to reproduce dominance-oriented models of masculinity and hierarchical gender relations that are common in their families. Therefore, on the one hand, the informal physical activities can be described as a stabiliser of identity but on the other hand, the activities contribute to passing on traditional models of masculinity.
A lot has already been written on Heinrich von Kleist's "Über das Marionettentheater" ("On the Marionette Theater"). I will engage in a reading that is based on deconstructivist approaches as well as on queer- and cyberfeminist-thoughtboth of which reform concepts of the subject by taking into question bodily and gender coherence and gender identity. Queer Studies provoke a thinking of the multiplication of difference as well as a thinking of difference within ('entities') rather than of difference between ('entities'). Cyberfeminism explores the possibilities of manipulating and changing the physical body and provides metaphors for thinking 'posthuman' identities. Donna Harawayin allusion to the hybridization of gender relations and gender conceptionsposits the cyborg as a leading figure/figuration of feminist politics.
