Available Open Access under CC-BY-NC-ND licence Gendering Women is an engaging and accessible account of how constructions of femininity fundamentally affect women's mental wellbeing through the life course. Led by women's life history accounts of growing up and growing older in the north of England, this book shows how experiences of becoming and being a woman - in family life, education, employment, motherhood and situations of violence - both enable and erode self confidence and esteem. The challenges to women's mental wellbeing cut across age and class differences and have profound impacts on the material conditions of women's lives throughout the life course. This is in turn a driver of inequality that is often under-recognised in mainstream policy. Based on feminist and ethnographically informed research with over five hundred women Gendering women provides a critical link between gender theory and the lived realities of women's daily lives and will appeal to students and academics in sociology and social sciences

This book focuses on the unique challenges women in politics face in the United States based on their gender. It also focuses on issues of intersectionality in political marketing, including race, age, weight, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. From a theoretical perspective, this book facilitates an investigation of the interplay of gender dynamics and power structures within political marketing. Focusing on women in the United States of both parties at various levels in politics, it examines both historical data and contemporary examples of female politicians and their campaigns. Using qualitative research methods and taking a feminist approach to data collection and analysis, this book features primary source interviews with 15 politicians, including a Governor, Senator, two Congresswomen, and several state and local legislators. It also incorporates interviews with 19 political consultants, PAC executives, aides, political party officials, and members of the media.--

After an exhausting 22-hour trip from St. Louis, I landed in Maputo,
Mozambique, alone, for the first time in July 2003 to begin my
dissertation research on women and women's organizations in
Mozambique since democratization. I spent an hour talking to a young
man who was returning home (to Maputo) from Brazil. Seeing it as an
opportunity to practice my Portuguese with someone who spoke
English, I did not realize that an hour had passed and my "welcoming
party" still had not arrived. The young man and I switched from
Portuguese to English as he began telling me the "cool places to
hang out and get a drink" in Maputo. I had no idea who was coming to
pick me up as I was armed only with the information that it was my
in-country advisor's brother who would be there. As this young man
and I were talking someone came up to me and asked, "Are you
Frances?" With a sigh of relief, I said yes, and he replied, "I was
here all of the time and I did not realize that you were here until
I heard you speaking English with this young man. I did not
recognize you; we thought you would be white."

Дуровой, которая преодолела конфликт сменой гендерной роли и принятием мужской идентичности, что стало для нее смыслообразующим фактором жизни, обеспечило профессиональный успех и военную карьеру.The authors study the case of changing gender identity by the example of Nadezhda Durova, the participant the Patriotic War 1812. The existential crisis in her formative years became dominant in Durova's life. The woman overcame the conflict by changing her gender role and accepting male identity, which was the meaning-forming factor in her life and promoted her success in life and military career.

Forensic anthropology and, more broadly, the forensic sciences have only recently begun to acknowledge the importance of lived gender identity in the resolution of forensic cases, the epidemic of anti-transgender violence, and the need to seek practical solutions. The current literature suggests that forensic anthropologists are becoming aware of these issues and are working toward efforts to improve identification of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) persons. The scope of the problem, however, is not limited to methodology and instead can be traced to systemic anti-trans stigma ingrained within our cultural institutions. As such, we call on forensic anthropologists to counteract cisgenderism and transphobia and promote gender equity and inclusion in their practice. In this paper, we identify three areas in which forensic anthropologists may be positioned to intervene on cisgenderist practices and systems: in casework, research, and education. This paper aims to provide strategies for forensic anthropologists to improve resolution of TGD cases, produce more nuanced, gender-informed research, and promote gender equity and inclusion in the field.
