; The study analyzed The Brazilian Policy for Reduction of Morbidity and Mortality from Accidents and Violence, in the socio-political perspective. We used as a base the chapter "Violence: a global public health problem" from the World Report on Violence and Health. The analysis revealed convergent and divergent elements of the Brazilian Policy in comparison with the international perspectives. We verified that the Brazilian Policy tried to converge to the international policies, however: it emphasizes the health promotion actions, but are limited to the context and behavior of individuals and individual communities; the performance of health professionals is expected without providing more structural investments, as the improvement in work conditions, the increase of financial and material resources; there are few clear definitions of the government and economical sector responsibilities.

The objective of this study is to analyze some of the factors that influence the process of internationalization of Brazilian civil society as a partner for economic and social development in other countries, from the experience of the Non-Governmental Development Organization (NGDO) Viva Brazil Rio in Haiti. Although considered a successful experience, Viva Rio faced a number of obstacles in expanding its international reach, and was not yet followed by a similar movement from other Brazilian NGO's, despite support from the Brazilian government, the United Nations (UN) and other institutions from developed countries. By analyzing the ways by which the national government, international organizations, transnational corporations and NGDOs interact with Northern NGDOs of the global South, it becomes clear that the international capabilities of Brazilian NGDO's are still constrained due to the incipient internationalization of both Brazilian society and government.

In the post-Cold War world, Africa has been an important focus of Brazilian foreign policy. Having a significant historical weight in building our nation, African countries are also part of the moves adopted by Brazil's foreign policy. The main purpose of the present text is to show this relevant regional dimension regarding Brazil's international insertion during the Lula era. The work is divided in two parts: the first part approaches Africa's international insertion throughout recent years and the second analyses the dimension occupied by African affairs in Brazil during the Lula era. The main argument is that the new role played by Africa in the international scene coincides with a global Brazil. Adapted from the source document.

This article analyzes the interaction between the two giants of the Western Hemisphere on the bilateral, regional and global contexts. The first section presents a brief historical overview of how relations between the two countries have evolved. There follows an analysis of Brazilian foreign policy under the Lula administration. A third section explores the dynamics of US-Brazilian relations and assesses the potential for greater bilateral collaboration. The conclusion speculates on the prospects for transforming the current ?relationship? into a partner-ship. Adapted from the source document.

This paper examines the new trends in commercial relations among countries involved in the global trade market, taking into account new determining factors such as China's probable admission into the WTO and the growing participation of some Asian countries in the global trade. It is also emphasized that, despite its economic stability, Brazil has been losing ground to other emerging economies because of the lack of qualified staff to conduct its internal transition into a more realistic and updated view of global trade, and also due to its domestic commercial deficit and a restrictive policy.
