The urgent need for the study of exclusive identities in conflict is ever more apparent in a globalizing world in which societies are becoming multicultural and complex and in which inter-cultural contact and the co-existence of languages and cultures comes increasingly to bear on the construction of plural identities. The present book considers perversion in the construction of identity and the perverse usage of identity in areas such as social cohesion - xenophobia, racism, ostracism, rejection, ageism, marginalisation - and the mismanagement of linguistic identity, language groups and ass
The times are turbulent. Assuming tense and plural identities in the production of knowledge has been one of the main objectives of this publication. Deeply shocked at the cultural, social and political level, the post-dictatorial Chile highlights the importance of rethinking identities and collective subjects in the strengthening of our fragile and petty democracies. In Chile, the epochal crisis of identities still shows the effects of multiple strategies convened in the "erasure" of subjects and actors ,who after having expressed radical political impulses in the recent past, have been suspended in a morass of fear and disappointment. Ease and creativity have returned in a carnival style in current social protests opening the way to new forms of identity, to unsettling political and cultural expressions.

People who have transited to femininities are located culturally, politically, economically and socially in a lower category than women and homosexuals, so they are victims of all kinds of hate crimes perpetrated by everybody, even by people who transited to masculinity; their experience is the queerest of all because they have transgressed the «should be» models of sex, body, gender, sexual orientation and sexual behavioral expressions and have done to a sex and a genre marked by otherness and the binary understanding of the social hierarchy, a situation even worse for «immigrants». The study of how they construct their transited identities contributes to the development of the sexual politics of all minorities, but that study should be done from other epistemologies and ontologies, here is approached from systems theory and the constitutive ontology of the observer.

; The stigmatized and medicalized homosexual identity was created during the 19th century. In the sixties, the existence of this identity was denied by the Gay Movement, although its negation reinforces its existence. Nowadays these two discourses still coexist, a majority that condemns and stigmatizes homosexuality and a politicized minority that supports its normalization. Persons identifying as homosexual have to contend with the stigmas reinforced by the majority, this process is easier in the presence of legitimating mechanisms. However, in this article I also consider other important questions for the construction of a dominant or secondary homosexual personal identity: forms of sociability, personal image (effeminate/virile), and socio-structural positioning, among others. Finally, I consider the dialectics between visibility and concealment and the fragmentation that exists among homosexuals. This fragmentation makes it difficult to talk about the existence of a homosexual identity which includes all the people involved. ; Grupo de Investigación Antropología y Filosofía (SEJ-126). This paper criticizes the position that holds that the only meaningful political actions and the only formation of significant political identities are related to the economic bases. In other words, those within capitalist productive relations where the basic class contradictions can be found. The author of this paper basically takes into consideration two analytical criteria from the social movements theorists who argue that collective action can arise from sources other than the economic structure, such as the political or cultural dimension as well as from ethnic and gender relations. This shows that the sources of collective identity can be formed by something other than class. These different types of social movements create new identities and life styles.

This paper aims to underline that neither the universalist point of view nor the particularist one can ignore the contributions made by each other. Both approaches are necessary to a better understanding of the complexity of nowadays multicultural claims, and both can contribute to a solution. So thinking, I first analyse various conceptualizations of «identity». Then I show how claims on distributive justice turn into identity claims. In the third place, I discuss some consecuences of understanding «identity» not as a political construction but as an ontological characteristic. Finally, I consider how women had historically been «mediators», and the risks this implied. I draw some conclusions tending to show both the importance of universal conceptions and the attention due to identity movements and their claims.

The title of this article refers to the two books I have worked in the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Peter Burke. The first book, The Goddess Fortune, was published in 2006 and won the Spanish National Prize for Non-fictional Literature in 2007. Now I am writing the second book, whose title will be Baroque Identities. This new concept is an "ideal-type" and refers critically to the two ways of constructing collective identities in contemporary political philosophy: kantian cosmopolitanism and political romanticism. The article's core is dedicated to the analysis of two key metaphors of baroque identities: the self as a labyrinth and the identity as a dream.

The overall framework of analysis is the Western hemisphere and in particular the European Union. It is noted that other identity orders are also affected by globalisation, such as those concerning culture, gender, political institutions, religion or even the socio-biological conditions of individuals. However, we confined our examination to the relationship between identity and territory.
