Between the wars a personality cult grew around Masaryk. These three volumes constitute the first balanced critical assessment of the actual achievement of the university professor who became the first president of Czechoslovakia. In this the first volume scholars from Europe and North America offer new insights into the career and ideas of Masaryk during the three decades preceding the outbreak of World War I. They appraise his role as critic of injustice and outworn tradition, providing a most significant interpretation of his place in modern history

Although much has been written about his unique brand of politics, very little has been told about the personal history of Ron Paul, the man that many credit with being the founder of the modern Tea Party. From his formative years spent in Pennsylvania and his early careers as an obstetrician and a U.S. Air Force flight surgeon to the 12 terms he has served in Congress, this comprehensive volume reveals all of the experiences that shaped Ron Paul into the politician he is today. Landmarks in his congressional career, such as his famously libertarian voting record and his consistent clashes wit

This book is not about OJ. Simpson or his ""Dream Team."" This book is not another rehash of the ""Trial of the Century."" It is about Ron Golman and his blended family. Overnight and through tragedy, this quiet, closely knit family became enmeshed in one of the ugliest and most controversial crimes in recent history. The Goldmans provide a wrenching account, in their own words, of the ripple effect that occurs when a beloved family member is murdered, and the extra burdens that develop when grief becomes a public spectacle. But, more important, the family puts a name, a face, a soul, to the y

Li He (790-816) gained his early renown particularly for his lyrical reimaginings of lost song traditions from ancient times. The poet's premature death, along with the otherworldly quality of many of his works, led later readers to view Li He as the emblematic cursed poet, whose lyrical fascination with ancient history, with ghosts, and with celestial and demonic beings seemed to have presaged the brevity of poet's own earthly existence.
This volume is a translation of the song lyrics, poetry, and prose of Li Qingzhao (1084-1150s), with annotations and an introductory critical essay. Her song lyrics and poetry will be presented in a way to help readers get beyond traditional conventional images of her and gain insight into her originality and importance as a female voice in a literary world of her time that was almost exclusively male.
Criminal tribunals, truth commissions, reparations, apologies and memorializations are the characteristic instruments in the transitional justice toolkit that can help societies transition from authoritarianism to democracy, from civil war to peace, and from state-sponsored extra-legal violence to a rights-respecting rule of law. Over the last several decades, their growing use has established transitional justice as a body of both theory and practice whose guiding norms and structures encompasses the range of institutional mechanisms by which societies address the wrongs committed by past regimes in order to lay the foundation for more legitimate political and legal order. In Transitional Justice, a group of leading scholars in philosophy, law, and political science settles some of the key theoretical debates over the meaning of transitional justice while opening up new ones. By engaging both theorists and empirical social scientists in debates over central categories of analysis in the study of transitional justice, it also illuminates the challenges of making strong empirical claims about the impact of transitional institutions. Contributors: Gary J. Bass, David Cohen, David Dyzenhaus, Pablo de Greiff, Leigh-Ashley Lipscomb, Monika Nalepa, Eric A. Posner, Debra Satz, Gopal Sreenivasan, Adrian Vermeule, and Jeremy Webber
