(DIPF/Orig.).;;;The contexts and practices of binge drinking can be regarded as a means to cope with some of the demands in young people's transition to adulthood, among them the development of gender identities. Drawing on own empirical material the article discusses the following questions that should be considered in a gender sensitive research on youth cultures: (a) binge drinking as a possibility for gender plays, (b) associated (re-)production of heteronormativity in the context of binge drinking and (c) the interconnection of both aspects in different functions alcohol consumption may have for young people. This discussion will be used to pose what the authors argue are fundamental methodological challenges of youth culture studies interested in gender practices. (DIPF/Orig.).
