AbstractRobert Brenner's recent monograph on the economics of global turbulence has renewed interest in one of the most important topics in Marxian thought, the theory of crisis tendencies in capitalism. In their introduction to Brenner's monograph, the editors of New Left Review praise him as a worthy successor to Marx in the strongest possible terms. In the eyes of a number of critics, however, Brenner is guilty of a major betrayal of Marx's legacy. In Michael Lebowitz's view, for instance, Brenner should now be seen as a disciple of Adam Smith, not Karl Marx, while Fine, Lapavitsas, and Milonakis refer to Brenner's position as 'a distinctly non-Marxist perspective'.

In th? contribution, we will deal with an immanent textual analysis of the
dynamics of the relationship between the Grand Inquisitor and Jesus in
Karamazov Brothers. We will be primarily interested in the problem of the
ironical dialectics that reverses the relationship between the originator of
Christianity, the God Man, and His historical successor, the Church, so that
the latter, strictly formally observerd, following the ultimate goal set by
Jesus, ie. God Himself - reaches the very opposite side, obeying totally
contrary principles. The matrix by which we will investigate this problem is
the question of the author?s/establisher?s right for disposition of the
sense, that is, the historical continuance of his work, to which the
Inquisitor refers in his ingenious defense of his initially crypto-apostate,
and finally fully apostate position.

The Presidential General election 2015 was one of the pregnant events in the history of Nigerian Democracy. The opposition party All Progressive Congress (APC) for once was set for delivery or miscarriage of Nigerian Democracy. This tensed situation produced fertile grounds for so many unanswered questions like, creation of additional polling units not known to other political parties, the faith of 12.4 million Nigerians who did not get their PVC before election, the huge amount of 125 billion naira largest sum ever spent on election in Africa, the failure of card readers, the question of underage voting in the North, and the demographic figure of disbursement of PVC in the North. By way of an empirical narrative, predicated on Marxist political economy approach, the paper attempts to proffer a way forward in the coming election in Nigeria. It recommends a new organic composition of the structure of INEC in future election in Nigeria.

AbstractThis paper discusses some recent developments in the Marxian theory of value, called value-form theory, which have gone along with a methodological shift from a linear logic and historical dialectics to a dialectical logic and systematic dialectics. In order to appreciate these developments within the Marxian paradigm, it is useful to make two introductory remarks: first, on some peculiarities of Marxian discourse and, second, about discrepancies in Marx's Capital.

The research explores the understanding of the concept Historical empathy as conceptualised by the two teachers sampled in this study. The article analyses the pedagogical practices of two Grade 12 History teachers who used the theme of the Vietnam War of 1954 to 1975, also known as the Second Indochina War, and in Vietnam as the Resistance War Against America or simply the American War, was a conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. This is one of the new themes included in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) to cultivate tenets of Historical empathy in their classrooms. The research utilises a qualitative research paradigm to enable the researchers to interview teachers at their schools and observe them interacting with the phenomenon being investigated in their natural environment in the classrooms. The article uses the dual theoretical framework designed by Barton and Levstik (2004) which embodies both elements of affective and cognitive domains to evaluate the perspectives of two teachers and their pedagogical practices in the classroom. According to the findings, both teachers used suitable and relevant primary and secondary sources during the lesson presentations. Teachers demonstrated characteristics of emotional and cognitive empathy during the interviews and these divergent elements were displayed during the teaching of the Vietnam War. Quite often learners were encouraged by one teacher to sympathise and align with the victims of the war which is caused by their past agony and psychological trauma resulting from the experiences of their communities during the apartheid government and this demonstrated shared normalcy. The second teacher empathised with the Vietnamese soldiers and saw them as gallant soldiers against the strong US troops rather than as victims thereby displaying some elements of cognitive Historical empathy.

Anticolonial theorists and revolutionaries have long turned to dialectical thought as a central weapon in their fight against oppressive structures and conditions. This relationship was never easy, however, as anticolonial thinkers have resisted the historical determinism, teleology, Eurocentrism, and singular emphasis that some Marxisms place on class identity at the expense of race, nation, and popular identity. In recent decades, the conflict between dialectics and postcolonial theory has only deepened. In Decolonizing Dialectics George Ciccariello-Maher breaks this impasse by bringing the work of Georges Sorel, Frantz Fanon, and Enrique Dussel together with contemporary Venezuelan politics to formulate a dialectics suited to the struggle against the legacies of colonialism and slavery. This review-essay contends that Gramsci: Space, Nature, Politics is essential reading for an appreciation of the relevance of the eponymous thinker to a number of seminal theoretical debates and to a wider strategic discussion on the trajectory of the left in the twenty-first century. The book provides a vigorous vindication of Gramsci's utilisation of concepts such as passive revolution, dialectical nature and a relational view of the mind. There are incisive discussions of ecology and intersectionality through a Gramscian lens. The collection also includes outstanding analyses of class struggles in a number of developing capitalist states, including Brazil and South Africa. The review argues that a distillation of the ideas contained in the work would be an asset to Marxists engaged in theoretical and practical activity.
