The article demonstrates how Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) geographic headings for the Southern Levant mirror the political investment of Congress and the American public in Middle East politics over the last thirty years. The headings' evolution as well as Library of Congress rules governing their creation is charted in detail. These LCSH headings contrast markedly with those established in other national libraries (BnF, DNB) and independent value vocabularies (TGN, GeoNames), and global opinion regarding the legal status of the occupied territories. I sketch the historical context of their formation and offer suggestions as to how libraries can "decolonize" their metadata in service of Sanford Berman's "access and equity."
The 15M movement was extended since its birth to the squares in Madrid and other cities in Spain through popular assemblies. These are the method and form of the policy exercise that 15M deploys in urban public space. Organised using a precise methodology, air assemblies constitute a rhythmic street occupancy exercise which puts not only speech but also the bodies of its participants at the forefront of their practice. In her street, the assemblies carry out the most genuine political gesture: the aeration of things that concern us. In this article we wonder about the political atmosphere brought to the city by the assemblies and we highlight two unique aspects: an outpatient architecture characterised by constant transit and concern for care practices. Our argument is that air assemblies implement a policy that is in abeyance and is characterised by its fragility and by making the same conditions visible. ; Peer reviewed ; The 15M movement was extended since its birth to the squares in Madrid and other cities in Spain through popular assemblies. The work addresses the political struggles for the memory of Malvinas, based on the operation of an entity bringing together ex-combatants of the South Atlantic Conflict (1982): the Centre of War Veterans 'Argentinian Malvinas' in Neuquén (Argentina). Specifically, the article traces the feelings that this entity gave to the Malvinas symbol (as a sovereign cause and war) from its foundation in 1997 to 2017, a fundamental climate of realignment in the movement of ex-combatants and on the Memorial map of Malvinas. This is therefore a contribution of a local key study — without neglecting dialogue with other national and local/regional levels — to the history of Falkland from a socio-cultural perspective of war and post-war conflict, an emerging construction approach in Argentina. To this end, the work is based on speeches given by the organisation's references in key commemorations, reconstructed from coverage by local media, by official publications of the city's government bodies, and, intermittently since 2012, by my own participating comment. It also relies on interviews conducted with the Centre's presidents by those same means, and on brochures provided by the institution for certain activities carried out. FIL: Rodríguez, Andrea Belén. This article discusses the construction of memory around the last civic-military dictatorship in the newspaper The Nation from 1976 to 2014. For this, we started to conceive the newspaper as an actor involved from their own core interests, besides being support and space dissemination of political ideas of the conservative sectors of our country. The work shows the evolution of speech and identifies three main stages. The first highlights the explicit support of the dictatorship . The second occurs with the restoration of democracy where the nodal point of the speech will be the average of national unity, around a core content to ensure the "normalization of the republic ", depending on the interests of the dominant sectors. The third is from 2003, where it is built Kirchner governments as a new type of memory promoter partial anti-republican authoritarianism. The "feeling of insecurity" is a central and recurring topic in daily life and the political and media agenda in Argentina: discussions on how to interpret diverging indices and figures, emergence of various civil society organisations, changing public policies, media scenarios of moral panic and expansion of the security market are, among other processes, a complex and blurred framework which, in its more simplistic versions, is reduced to the question of the ontological status of that feeling: subjective expression (more or less appropriate reflection) of an objective social transformation or subjective distortion (displacement) in relation to the reality that we speak of "something else"? The relevance of sociological research challenging to address this heteroclite and changing universe is out of discussion; of equal magnitude are the risks of being trapped in the universe we want to know. It is precisely this obstacle that the unique success of Gabriel Kessler's research distinguishes it from many other approaches to a relevant problem (social, political and academic). The key is the combination of rigour and creativity in the analytical construction of the research object.

International audience Forests take up a central position in the issue of climate change. Indeed, they offset part of our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions every year, while products of the forestry and forest-based industry can be used as substitutes for materials and fossil fuels that produce significant amounts of GHG emissions. But as a result of climate change, forests and their services are themselves also vulnerable. In this article, authors describe the proposal published by The Shift Project association to revitalise the forestry and forest-based industry in the European Union (EU) with the aim of reducing its GHG emissions. Having recalled the role played by European forests in carbon sequestration and provided an overview of the timber industry in the EU, the authors suggest that substitution of high-emission construction materials (concrete, steel, aluminium, etc.) by wood products should be doubled by 2050. They then consider actions that should be undertaken so as to achieve that objective: increase in production of wood, redirecting flows and structuring of the industry. The implementation of this programme would enable the EU to reduce its emissions by at least 100 million tonnes of CO2 in 2050 while also benefitting from other economic, social and environmental advantages.

In this essay, the history of the Brussels architecture school La Cambre is sketched. It was established in 1928 under the guidance of Henry Van de Velde as an avant-garde elite school, but in the 1960s a certain academism emerged. This led to almost two decades of ideological and political battles, with Maurice Culot, Léon Krier and Robert Delevoy as the main protagonists. In 2011, La Cambre was integrated into the University of Brussels.
Summary The use of computational tools for lexicographic work in the creation of specialty dictionaries is undeniable. The process ranges from the design and constitution of the specialty corpus, to the extraction of terms, to the automatic extraction of definitions, which is a work of computational lexicography. That article first outlines the elements to be considered in the constitution of the body of specialty. It then describes the GECO system, a manager to raise the corpus, as well as the applications of this system for the construction of dictionaries, such as the automatic term extractor, the concordance viewer and the extractor of defining contexts. This shows an effective solution to the problems in the process of choosing terms and extracting definitions from a large corpus, which significantly reduces the processing time of the data obtained in order to speed up the creation of a specialised dictionary.
In the Lulumbamba Valley, 20 kilometers from Quito, there is an obelisk celebrating the equator. This article presents a summary of the ties between the Andean equator and geodesic science, ties that resulted in the construction of an original monument in 1936 and a subsequent vibrant tourist economy. Secondly, it presents an oral history narrated by the director of an alternative equatorial museum, Fabián Vera, whose family has been linked with equatorial tourism since the 1950s. This oral history demonstrates the conflictive nature of an imaginary landmark, such as the equator, as well as the possibilities of homegrown tourism. Taking as framework the importance of addressing conceptions about Nature of Science (NoS) and approaching the study of authentic science (scientific practice as is actually carried out in laboratories and other areas), we analyze the implementation of a didactic sequence using an autobiographic narration of an investigation about dengue. The process can be characterized as action research, because it was carried out in successive cycles of planning, implementation, analysis and reflection. The sequence was implemented at the university level and allowed approaching various facets of NoS: trajectories of entry into the system and actors; scientific methodology; construction of hypotheses and development of experimental designs; processes of scientific paper writing; editorial fashions; and science as socially and politically embedded. The proposal appears to have promoted changes in the representations of the students and the identification of biases in their previous scientific training.

Despite the incremental development of the heritage dimension of local urban planning plans, as well as an ever more substantial relationship between immovable cultural heritage law and urban planning law, these two elements remain susceptible to raising confusion, occasionally contradicting one another frontally. The French Act of 7 July 2016 on Freedom of Creation, Architecture, and Heritage had the initial ambition of harmonizing and simplifying the mechanisms for the protection and enhancement of immovable cultural heritage, including under urban planning law. Yet the Act of 23 November 2018 on Housing Development, Urban planning, and Digital Technology has further contributed to weakening the heritage protection mechanisms and bestowed a priority on the construction of new buildings over the conservation and enhancement of old neighbourhoods and buildings. ; National audience
in this article we analyse the political consequences of the dominant social imaginary on science and technology, in particular the impact it has on dependent countries such as Argentina. In a schematic and summarised way, we indicate four properties that characterise hegemonic vision of science and technology, and present its theoretical roots in epistemology and sociology, as well as the fetichiist nature of this vision. Next step, we propose to politicise our views to de-feticate science and technology, as a necessary condition for advancing science and technology that meets our needs. Based on a sketch that illustrates the structural mismatch between research agendas and socio-productive realities in peripheral countries, we conclude that we need thinking/location that transcends the walls of globalised scientific and technological research to lead to the construction of a local and regional agenda circumscribed by a national guiding project and according to a desirable model of society.
