International audience Discussions on sustainable development in French forests challenge conventional forest policy options, from a perspective that combines sustainability in the biological, economic, institutional and political realms. It would be wrong to focus only on discussions relating to biological sustainability since the major weaknesses that need priority attention probably relate to the other components of sustainability. But more than a standard, these discussions provide a valuable modality for reconsidering apparently uncontroversial options among forestry stakeholders. Additionally, debate on sustainable management can also be seen as indicative of a new method for major international debate that produces a new international (and community-based) culture. ; Le débat sur la gestion durable des forêts françaises a fait émerger des questionnements nouveaux sur les choix traditionnels de la politique forestière, sur la base d'une grille de réflexion combinant durabilité biologique, durabilité économique, durabilité institutionnelle et durabilité politique. Il serait erroné de n'en retenir que le débat sur la durabilité biologique, car les points de faiblesse prioritaires à prendre en compte résident probablement dans les autres composantes de la durabilité. Mais il s'agit moins d'une norme que d'un mode fécond de questionnement des choix qui font en apparence consensus parmi les partenaires forestiers. Par ailleurs, le débat sur la gestion durable peut aussi être compris comme révélateur d'un nouveau mode d'organisation de certains grands débats publics internationaux où se façonne une culture internationale (et communautaire) nouvelle.

In this article, we put forward two arguments for greater attention from central banks to the distributional implications of monetary policies. Using the dual effect doctrine, we show that central bankers are responsible for the distributional effects of their unconventional monetary policies. Moreover, given that the traditional leverage of taxation is facing serious difficulties today, central bank support could be decisive in reducing economic inequalities. We then assess the theoretical and empirical arguments raised by central bankers against this proposal. We conclude that these objections do not undermine the attractiveness of central banks' responsibility for distribution. ; Dans cet article, nous présentons deux arguments en faveur d'une attention accrue des banques centrales à l'égard des implications distributives des politiques monétaires. En mobilisant la doctrine du double effet, nous montrons que la responsabilité des banquiers centraux quant aux effets distributifs de leurs politiques monétaires non conventionnelles est engagée. De plus, étant donné que le levier traditionnel de la fiscalité fait face à de sérieuses difficultés aujourd'hui, l'appui des banques centrales pourrait être décisif pour la réduction des inégalités économiques. Nous évaluons ensuite les arguments théoriques et empiriques soulevés par les banquiers centraux contre cette proposition. Nous concluons que ces objections ne minent pas l'attrait d'une responsabilité des banques centrales en matière de distribution.

256 259 339 ; S ; Highly siliceous zeolites, namely MFI type have attracted the great attention due to their higher hydrothermal stability, higher selectivity to organic compounds, and often better catalytic properties in comparison with Al-rich zeolites. The native zeolite (Si/Al = 164) and its desilicated analogues were deeply characterized with regard to their structural and textural properties by X-ray diffraction, low temperature adsorption of nitrogen and solid-state Al-27 MAS NMR. Their acidic properties were evaluated in quantitative IR studies. Finally, the catalytic performance of desilicated zeolites ZSM-5 was evaluated in the cracking of n-decane, 1,3,5-tri-iso-propylbenzene and vacuum gas oil. In this article, it is shown that high silica zeolites prepared by NaOH and NaOH&TBAOH leaching presented good hydrothermal stability with only slightly lower resistance when comparing to native steamed zeolite. The mesoporosity was preserved after the steaming treatment. The influence of the generated mesoporosity on the higher activity was evidenced in both 1,3,5-tri-isopropylbenzene and diesel oil cracking of steamed hierarchical zeolites. In spite of their lowered acidity, the mesopores system benefited the diffusion of the bulky molecule and finally provided higher activity of hierarchical zeolites. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. International audience This paper analyses the interest that developed in Great Britain around composting from the late 1920s. It argues that before the current vogue for composting, the technique attracted considerable attention in the middle of the twentieth century and that interest in this technology was not limited to a few 'mystical' members of the organic movement. This paper also analyses the role of an institution called the Natural Resources (Technical) Committee and attempts to show that opposition in Whitehall played a key role in the marginalisation of this technology. It thus suggests that the rise of the 'hegemony of disposal' in the twentieth century did not go uncontested and that it was not a purely technical and inexorable movement. The example of composting thus shows that the birth of a 'throwaway society' was not as consensual as usually described and rather than the result of a widespread aversion to refuse, it should be seen as the result of political decisions, themselves informed by a specific type of quantitative and reductionist type of expertise.

The article demonstrates how Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) geographic headings for the Southern Levant mirror the political investment of Congress and the American public in Middle East politics over the last thirty years. The headings' evolution as well as Library of Congress rules governing their creation is charted in detail. These LCSH headings contrast markedly with those established in other national libraries (BnF, DNB) and independent value vocabularies (TGN, GeoNames), and global opinion regarding the legal status of the occupied territories. I sketch the historical context of their formation and offer suggestions as to how libraries can "decolonize" their metadata in service of Sanford Berman's "access and equity."

At the same time, the results of acquisition manoeuvres are still disappointing. This disappointment has been brought closer to the lack of attention given to the managerial dimension of acquisitions in favour of strategic analyses of essentially economic inspiration. While there is now some agreement on the importance of post-acquisition management, there are still differences as to the principles that should guide it. By using the case methodology, the research is used to test the relevance of competing proposals, when the purchaser adopts a symbiotic integration policy. The suggestion that a mindset of rationalist inspiration does not allow the acquisition of symbiosis to be sifted out is corroborated. This result is explained by the nature of symbiosis policies, which aim to develop innovative practices and/or offers within a co-operative framework. Joint innovation is revitalised in cases where there is an emerging caractere that is poorly aligned with a mindset of rationalist inspiration. ; En depit de l'engouement suscite, les resultats des manœuvres d'acquisition restent decevants. Cette deception est a rapprocher du manque d'attention portee a la dimension manageriale des acquisitions au profit d'analyses strategiques d'inspiration essentiellement economique. Brief overview for the public authorities on Maurice Satineau, MP for Guadeloupe, (1936-40/42) and his relationship with the General Office for Jewish Affairs (CGQJ) from 1940 to 1944, being established that the name "Maurice Satineau" was awarded in 1979 to the college of the Guadeloupe commune of Baie-Mahault, which in 2019 reached its 40th anniversary. It appears in conclusion that the name "Maurice Satineau" is associated with the anti-Semitic policy of Vichy and the responsability that this authority shouldered in deportation and extermination. ; Brève note à l'attention des pouvoirs publics sur Maurice Satineau, député de la Guadeloupe, (1936-1940/42) et sa relation au Commissariat général aux questions juives (CGQJ) de 1940 à 1944, étant établi que le nom « Maurice Satineau » fut attribué en 1979 au collège de la commune guadeloupéenne de Baie-Mahault, établissement qui atteint en 2019 la date anniversaire de ses 40 ans. Peer reviewed ; Borders and human mobility have become key elements in the development of the global society of the twenty-first century. Growing attention to the development potential of migration has recently raised a new concern regarding the issue of return migration. Linked to this, the debate on the migration-development nexus considers circulation to foster development as it enhances the flow of financial, social and cultural capital to the countries of origin. This paper links cross-border mobility and return to development migration. Taking into account the historical, geopolitical and social changes in Moldova, the paper examines the perceptions of mobility and return for development of the Moldovans engaged in emigration in the countries of the European Union. Using a multi-discipline approach and ethnographic research (in-depth interviews) conducted among Moldovan migrants in their home country, this paper seeks to analyse how mobility and return can support social change and development within the country.

The changing political and social meanings of space under conditions of advanced globalization point to the need to analyze security – or the deployment and management of violence -- as a socio-spatial practice. This article draws attention to the "methodological nationalist" bias that has traditionally characterized mainstream security studies, and discusses its effect on how security issues are studied and conceptualized. Building on insights from political geography and sociology, the article makes the case for a "spatial turn" in the field. It discusses how a socio-spatial approach can help make sense of evolving state security practices, and presents examples of non-national spaces of security -- including cities, cyberspace and the global polity. Such spaces are increasingly objects of security practices, but the implications of this remain largely under-theorized in security studies.

After nine years of debate on institutional reform, the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty brings to a close a turbulent chapter of European integration. Many are of the opinion that the European Union should now focus its attention on other issues. Yet an important lesson can be learned from this saga: the current procedure for revising treaties is doomed to fail and could ultimately paralyze the Union because it increases the number of members who hold veto rights. This is why it is imperative that it be reformed. But how? And when? This study, which is the result of an expert group's collective endeavour, presents several concrete proposals for achieving this goal.

The case of Spain has generated little attention among academics and experts in the field of social policy, most probably because of the nature of the Franco regime which lasted for almost 40 years. This working document identifies differences and similarities in the development of the modern social provision system in Spain with reference to that of other European democracies. Even briefly, the most important elements in the origins and development of the Spanish welfare state are analysed. RESUMEN This test analyses the importance of the study and interpretation of contemporary imperialism in the United States, understood as a multidimensional phenomenon and as a system of domination in which hegemony and, as part of it, ideological processes occupy a prominent place and perform essential functions for its preservation, reproduction and consolidation. Attention is drawn to the validity of such a study from the perspective of critical thinking and of a Marxist and Lleninist theoretical approach in today's social sciences that address US reality. ; RESUMEN Este ensayo analiza la importancia del estudio e interpretación del imperialismo contemporáneo en Estados Unidos, entendido como un fenómeno multidimensional y como un sistema de dominación en el que la hegemonía y, como parte de ella, los procesos ideológicos ocupan un lugar destacado y cumplen funciones imprescindibles para su preservación, reproducción y consolidación. Se llama la atención sobre la vigencia de tal estudio desde la perspectiva del pensamiento crítico y de un enfoque teórico marxista y leninista en las ciencias sociales actuales que abordan la realidad norteamericana.

The paper aims to grasp the concept of melancholia at the intersection of historical, cultural and sociological perspectives. After providing a brief history of the concept, the article focuses on the relationships between melancholia and nostalgia, drawing particular attention to the temporal regime triggered by the melancholic process and underlining its critical impact in regard to the dominant values of neoliberal society. The paper then aims to map the major inflexions of contemporary melancholia, namely left melancholia and ecomelancholia. Coined by Walter Benjamin, the first emerges from the political defeats of socialism and the failures of any revolutionary inspiration through the history of the twentieth century. The second is triggered by the awareness of the irremediable destruction of a large part of our natural environment. Left melancholia and ecomelancholia are intermingled since they testify to a critical sensibility to the losses caused by the neocapitalism system, whether social loss or environmental loss, the two being linked

The paper presents contemplations about the role of Christianity in renewing modern culture. The central point of the research is the event of the Pentecost, described in the Acts of the Apostles, that represents the union of the sacred and secular in the renewal of mutual understanding and experience. The revelation of God disseminated by the original Church is juxtaposed to the broken unity described in the building of the tower of Babylon. The Pentecost, as a model of renewal of unity of mankind, represents a prototype of any Christian announcement, and the Second Vatican Council leans on it to a great extent. Special attention is paid to the vision of »Council Christianity« in the writings of Željko Mardešić that offer a first-rate theological corpus in keeping with the Council renewal. Christianity as seen by Mardešić is far from any project of ideologisation, politicisation or secularisation. The crises of faith in modern times have greatly been promoted by an inappropriate response to the challenges. As a symptom of the crisis there also emerge new spiritual movements, a form of the eclectic and informal spirituality that is beginning to compete with institutionalised religions. The last section of the paper makes suggestions for renewing the evangelisation and dialogue with the world that should neither be judgemental nor mimicric, but mature, authentic, inspired, optimistic and filled with deep confidence in personalism and freedom.

We consider marriage problems where myopic and farsighted players in- teract. To study such problems, we use the pairwise myopic-farsighted stable set. Blocking occurs by coalitions of size one or two. We require that all blocking players should strictly improve. We pay particular attention to the question whether core elements survive in this environment. This is the case when all players are myopic as well as when all players are farsighted. It also holds for matching problems satisfying the top-coalition property. For general matching problems where all women are farsighted, there is only one core element that can belong to the pairwise myopic-farsighted stable set, the woman-optimal stable matching, so all other stable outcomes are excluded for sure. If the woman-optimal stable matching is dominated from the woman point of view by an individually rational matching, then the pairwise myopic- farsighted stable set cannot contain a core element. We show that blocking by coalitions of arbitrary size leads to identical results.
